I don't think they quit. This team is 26-32 since AJP homered in the 9th to beat the Cubs. They have become a mediocre ballclub.
-
He definitely deserved a win tonight. Pitched as well as anyone could have hoped.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Why isn't Ozzie Guillen getting more criticism in the press for how flat this team is? Its only Ozzie's fault when the Sox win.
-
Through 9 innings yesterday, Boston scores 2 runs. Tonight 1 run through 8, and chances are they will win both. If you're in the mood to watch death, screw waiting for the zookeeper's video to come out, just tune into White Sox baseball nightly. They just find ways to lose now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) BTW...how much was PK out at first by? Approximately 67 feet.

QUOTE(GOD @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Ok can someone tell me why Crede is batting 3rd Thome 4th and Konerko 5th? Also where is Gload? Why are you asking questions? You're GOD damnit.

Paulie is going to need a walker with wheels to get to firstbase the last year of his contract.
-
nice comeback by Thome. No shoulder shrug DP Paulie.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) God this guy can look so good sometimes... But unfortunately we know what's coming. Maybe the rain will hit in the 5th. Vazquez goes 5 the Sox somehow score a run and thats a victory.
-
Good job by Vazquez not to give up runs after getting pissed off.
-
Vazquez is getting upset with the umpire. Trouble is lurking.
-
The offense looks asleep.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) 3-0 Tigers already... The Tigers are a virtual lock to win the Central. They attempted to let the Sox and Twins back in, but no one seemed interested.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Could be a bone, tendon, muscle, a number of things He threw 100 mph when he signed with the Angels and that was 40-50 pounds ago. He should consider getting down to 240 this offseason. His fastball will be fine, and he will put a lot less stress on all his joints.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) Pretty damn presumptious to assume that Jenks incurred this injury because of a lack of fitness We don't even have a report as to what type of injury it is Its supposedly a hip injury. Either that or the gout.
-
Hopefully the White Sox are activating him out of respect for his effort to try to pitch. I hope to God they don't throw him out there in a situation when the game is on the line.
-
Yet another reason the Sox should regret losing very winnable games up until now and thinking they can wait until the last couple of weeks to turn it on. Jenks will continue to incur injuries if he doesn't take better care of himself. Hopefully fitness will be a priority for him this offseason. He will regret all the money he cost himself and his family if his habits don't improve.

McCarthy has had a pretty good minor league record. He also was very impressive his last call-up last year ending up with 3 wins and a 4.03 ERA which isn't bad, better than most of the greatest rotation ever assembled's career ERAs.
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) If we are going to give him his first Major League start why can't it be over Pods in LF? Pablo will most likely be in LF. Mack is the only guy on the White Sox roster not named Sweeney or Dye or Anderson that actually wouldn't make everyone laugh if he were penciled to play RF at Fenway Park.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Yeah, all lefties cant hit other Lefties. Have you seen Sweeney's splits in AAA? You would think you would want to put one of your top prospects in the best position to succeed starting out. Ryan Sweeney is my favorite White Sox prospect. I just think its asking an awful lot of a kid to basically begin his major league career playing the toughest RF to defend in baseball, in a pressure packed game, facing a left hander, something he has had problems with. If the White Sox had another right handed OF who could actually play RF, there is no way Sweeney would start tonight.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) If he goes 0-4 with 2 K's will the board still be issuing well wishes? I'm not a huge fan of giving a 21 year old his first start by replacing a possible MVP candidate, in Fenway Park, while in a Wild Card race...call me crazy. Not to mention facing a lefty.

The last dance for Chief Illiniwek?
Dick Allen replied to Goldmember's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I hate all things U of I but I really don't see what the big deal with the Chief is. But, if it really offends some people, I really don't see why it would, but if it does, dump him. The Chief definitely hasn't had a very good effect on the Illinois football program the past several years, and I really doubt any sane individual would actually think the Chief is even remotely responsible for any of the basketball team's success. If alumni are going to stop sending cash to the program because of the Chief's elimination--------WOW, the U of I is even creepier than I thought. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) DA...what's your opinion on the Jenks and his lack of consistently velocity this season? He's only been in the real high 90s about 1/5 of the games he's been in. Last year, he was in the very high 90s a lot more often? Do you think it is due to just wear and tear on his arm over the year, or might his conditioning be preventing consistent performances? He's had a very good season this year, but I hope he can hold up the rest of the way. He went from having his best stuff of the season (Sat night) to his worst tonight. Personally, I think it probably is the couple things you mentioned. Wasn't last year his first year relieving? It seems to me he was never a big innings guy even when he was starting. Maybe all the appearances are taking a toll, and the bigger factor to me was his attempt to put Old Country Buffett out of business all by himself last offseason. He's fat. I hope the Sox monitor his weight this offseason. But I'm with you, watching Zumaya on ESPN last night consistently go 100,101,102 made me wonder what happened to Jenks 100 mph heater. Bobby has gotten his curveball over and at least close enough to swing at with 2 strikes this season. If not for that, his ERA would probably be 4.50-5.00 IMO.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Thornton 3.40 ERA 1.22 WHIP .222 BAA How is this not good. Again His whip and baa are better than Bobby Jenks, and his era is only 0.02 higher, and the guy probably thinks Thornton sucks and Jenks is the greatest.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) I really, really, really, really miss Gio Gonzalez, Daniel Haigwood, Tyler Lumsden, and Chris Young right now. Yes, I know hindsight is 20/20. I had no problem trading these guys (save Young) at the time. I was all for winning right now. But with it looking more and more with each passing day that we're gonna be watching the playoffs come October, it's safe to say we traded away a big chunk of our future for nothing. I've said it a 1000 times, the Vazquez trade will be KW's worst ever. He can't do much worse. A lot of people point to Vazquez's record, but his record is crap considering he has had the lead in all but 2 starts, and sometimes he had the lead 3 times in the same game.
