  1. The tying run always comes to the plate. I'd love to see Thome put one on the board to tie it up.
  2. I don't care if he isn't "stretched out". Put McCarthy in the rotation.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Yeah, but it's also hard to believe that we could play worse than we've played this year with a roster like we have. Seriously, this division is going to be Hell on earth for the next 4-5 years. Especially if Sweeney can turn into something good for us. Anderson already is, McCarthy already is, we need 1-2 more pieces and it's going to be a 3-4 way dogfight every year. I predict the Tigers pitching falls down to earth next year. The Indians will be better, and the Twins will always be tough. I really don't like the long-term financial commitment the Sox have to their rotation. I hope at least 2 and hopefully 3 are sent packing this winter. Maybe sign a free agent or 2, and get some top prospects since even mediocre pitching is in demand. The Sox could set themselves up for several years if they make the right moves.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) Hawk would have a 9 inning erection every game if Lou was the manager. That is true. Hawk's admiration for Ozzie is nothing compared to his admiration for Lou.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) Pinella is overrated. I would love to see Steve Stone be our next manager. FOR THE TWINS I love Sweet Lou. He's very intense. I loved him ever since he wrestled Dibble and told him he wasn't a man.
  6. The homer Sandy hit was the first he's hit since his last tour of duty with the Sox.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) For a guy who isn't Cy F***ing Young or whatever ozzie said he wasn't...he's outdueled Santana while he's been in there. Too bad Ozzie didn't bring him in for the 6th last night. The Sox may have won.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) I don't think you could get Hawk to actually criticize Ozzie, even if you have a gun to his head. Hawk does everything but blame Ozzie for so many things. Although he did cry about the lack of the wheel play, something he hasn't seen since 2004. He ripped Manuel for never using it.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) I hate Mariotti with a passion, but I cringed when I read in the paper earlier this week that Ozzie didn't want to take back that comment. I'm surprised I didn't see a thread about the article, as Ozzie was complaining that people are too critical of his managing, and he might just want to quit managing and hang out with his family. You suck Ozzie....now go play with Ozney. I think his kids won't let him quit. They are living the good life.
  10. For a guy who needs to be stretched out, McCarthy lasted longer than Contreras.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) Ozzie Guillen in 2006 = Tony Pena past 2003. Mad Genius turned into retarded managing and losing your ballclub. His idiotic behavior worked last year, but that crap doesn't last long. I would be shocked if he's still managing the White Sox beyond whenever his contract runs out.
  12. I wish some of the good posters would post at the game thread.
  13. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) It wasn't a personal attack but a hope that Ozzie would enter politics so he wouldn't manage the Sox any more. He did say he could be mayor.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Ozzie sounds like such an idiot when he says how the Twins were involved in the game, and the Sox weren't. Didn't Ozzie get and take all the credit for the Sox intensity last season? Why doesn't he get the blame when Hawk, who it takes things to be beyond obvious, to rip on anything White Sox related, says the Sox lack intensity?
  15. QUOTE(GOD @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Tigers losing 8-5 maybe we can catch them They have been begging the Sox to catch them, but the Sox just suck right now. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers fare against the Yankees next week. Minnesota may be leading the division.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Good thing Mackowiak started in CF, otherwise we wouldn't have all this offense. If Anderson is in CF, this may be an entirely different game right now.
  17. QUOTE(GOD @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) I have a serious question. Who calls the pitch selection, is it Ozzie or the catchers? You should know, you're God for crying out loud. Ozzie has stated several times, he doesn't know how to call a game, the catcher calls it, but the pitcher can always shake him off.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) I'd love to know which stats it is he looks at. I really would. I'd love to know why Iguchi still gets days off against righties and plays against the lefty the next day, when he's hitting .230 against lefties. I'd love to know why Rob Mackowiak plays against lefties, or why he plays CF in general. I'd love to know why we don't try someone else leading off, especially with Podsednik's performance lately. Maybe he waits until he already made out the line-up to look at them, but everytime he makes a move during a game, he's looking at a book. I think that's one of the reasons he's so lefty/lefty, righty/righty happy.
  19. QUOTE(jamalmanburg @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Maybe I phrased that poorly... but take Frankenstein (Freddy). He comes into camp late, out of shape, and high... and ozzie defends him. Bob Jenks comes in looking better than last year, getting guys out, and he needs to get into shape. Jenks was woefully out of shape at the beginning of spring training, and was throwing the ball 91. He deserved the crap Ozzie gave him.
  20. Ozzie's right, McCarthy is bad. He certainly can't hang with Buerhle, Contreras, Vazquez and Garcia.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I like Mackowiak, especially how he said he was drunk at Game 2 of the WS last year. I feel awful for him, as he has no business being in CF. His addition to the lineup tonight has been great. I love how Rongey defending it by saying Ozzie was playing a hunch. That's bulls***, as Ozzie has been going by the book on almost every move he's made this year. For those of you who attend games, watch Ozzie during the course of a game. For a manager who supposedly manages by a hunch or by the gut, he sure does look at a lot of stats.
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) I'm sorry, but would someone please remind me which pitcher went 8 or 9 innings against Santana in a 1-1 duel last September? Didn't Garcia lose a 1-0 game to Santana while pitching a 1 hitter.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) As someone said yesterday, maybe all the sweets he's eating during the game will make him heavier and add a few mph to his pitches. I think BMac should go to Bud Selig's office, take off his shirt and ask for an exception to the no Steroid rule. Bud couldn't say no.
