7/15 Game Thread White Sox vs. Yankees
Dick Allen replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) I agree with everything you say but I really can't get all that worked up about Politte. He's the mop up guy in the bullpen. We're not losing these games to the Yanks/Red Sox by relying on Politte. This game was over when our All-Star starting pitcher gave up 8 runs through 3 innings. Trying to figure out what to do with our starting staff should be KW's first priority. You're right, its not his fault they are getting killed today. The problem is he is taking up a valuable roster spot, a spot that could be used for someone who actually could get someone out once in a while. If KW isn't going to be able to upgrade the rotation, strengthening the bullpen is the next best thing. There will be a time where Politte's roster spot will be very important. -

Its time right now for KW to tell Politte if he wants to continue pitching he can go to Charlotte or he can be released and pitch for another organization's AAA affiliate. I knew Politte would suck in March. If they still think he has a chance to be helpful other than pitching batting practice, they are out of their minds. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Maybe we can keep getting Angels cast-offs, as they have no problem developing power pitchers. Jenks and Turnbow. If they had kept those guys, the Angels may have had one of the best bullpens in history. -

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Tiger pitchers throw 95-100 miles per hour. If they miss there spots they still get people out. Our "crafty" pitchers miss there spots and its lights out. That's exactly right. I remember Hawk talking a couple years ago about all the guys the Sox had in their organization that threw 95 and up. What happened? -

They should use Gload in Politte's role. How could he do any worse? -

Cliff should do the honorable thing and retire, or KW should do the honorable thing and tell Cliff he's done. He has to be embarrassed. -

The Braves are 5 1/2 out of the wild card. 1 game farther out than the White Sox will be behind Detroit after the Tigers beat up KC again today. Jones isn't available. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) Looked like Uribe might've thought that was gone for some reason. Anywhere but Yankee Stadium, it most likely is. -

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Is that true about the flu rumor? Anyone heard anything besides Farmer's statement? Maybe they just get sick looking at Farmio. He is Herman Munster-esque in the looks department. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) gload showing off the leather... With as great of reputation Gload has as a defensive firstbaseman, I've never been that impressed. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) So wait, should I even care because Ozzie looks like he doesn't with Ross Gload in the lineup. Unless Konerko is sick or injured, I agree. How do you yank him it what now is a 5 run game? -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Lots of (dissapointed) Sox fans in New York. I usually go, but for some reason I didn't this year. Thank God. -

Well the Sox will be 1-4 against Boston and NYY with Contreras and Buerhle each getting 2 starts. I think this should end the "Detroit can't beat good teams" crap, because apparently the White Sox can't either. I think it also sets up ESPN as being all east coast all the time. -

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) Dude's thrown 220+ innings over the last five seasons. But if he were hurt, he probably wouldn't be throwing as hard. Haven't seen today's game, but he didn't look like he's lost much velocity in his last two starts. I was reading a scouting report that said he's actually been throwing harder this year. -

Buerhle doesn't have his command, and there is a very fine line with him being great or terrible. His stuff isn't good enough to get out professional hitters if he can't spot it. When he's pinpoint, he's a stud. -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Buehrle just quit and let all of teammates down. I have never seen a pitcher who quits on his team after errors as much as Mark. This is the third straight start he just didn't care. Its incredible how much Buerhle becomes batting practice when the Sox commit a miscue in the field lately. I think there may be something wrong with him. He's struggled before, and snapped back, but I can't ever recall him getting hit as hard as he's been the last 3 or 4 starts. -

Buerhle has a shot to give up double digit runs for the second time this month. Nice job Mark. -

The White Sox look pathetic, and we know Buerhle has difficult times pitching over mistakes lately. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Does anyone else think that Aquafina encourages binge drinking (with beer of course?) I think binge drinking gets a bad rap.
