  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) TIFWIW, but when PTI interviewed AJ, he said he was going to fight any fine or suspension all the way because he didnt do anything wrong. If the fine is $500 or something of that sort, I really don't think AJ will think its worth the effort. If he appeals it, he may end up getting suspended.
  2. In several past suspensions, the fines were sometimes comically low like between $500-1000. AJ probably has a fine like this that means nothing to him, and probably not worth fighting over. Barrett and Anderson do get paid their salaries while serving their suspensions. I would imagine JR isn't going to take any money out of Joey's pocket either.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) I believe we control Crede through '08. That makes him staying even more concrete. With the premium KW is putting on defense, it would take something too good to be true to get him to move Crede, unless Joe just fell apart.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) A little light for Barrett, but they took it easy on the other guys. Also, why the hell would AJP get a fine? With the Kenny Rogers fiasco last year, I think Bud is a little scared handing out huge suspensions. Rogers had his reduced from 20 to 13 games last year, his fine changed to a charitable contribution, and had the right to hold MLB responsible if his time missed caused him to miss out on any incentives.
  5. I think Crede is a FA after 2007. Boras is his agent. The prospects of re-signing wouldn't appear to be very good. Its way too early to speculate on what KW would want or could get for Crede because he's not available right now. If its just for some prospects, if Crede continues to play like he's playing now, he would help the Sox attempt at a championship far more than the prospects would, so I would expect KW to hang on to him and worst case scenerio take the draft picks if he signs somewhere else. As long as the Sox were in contention, there would be absolutely no reason to trade him unless the Sox got major league players that filled needs.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ May 26, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) Scott went after Barret. Watch the tape. He will get a suspension. And Anderson will get more than 3 games. It's been 6 days - 4 days of review - not weeks. With appeals it will be weeks. 4 days of reviews is ridiculous as well.
  7. Pods should not be suspended he was getting Barrett off of AJ, or at least attempting to. If you recall when Ventura went to the mound after Nolan Ryan, Ryan got no time even though he gave Robin several noogies. Obviously, I haven't seen the tape in detail, but the only White Sox player who should or could be suspended by what I saw is Anderson. I heard Joey Cora might have to sit for a while, but I never saw his involvement. I also think MLB has really dropped the ball on this, waiting 5 business days to announce penalties, which will certainly be followed by appeals. Punishments, IMO, should be handed out promptly, and if players want to appeal, with modern technology the appeal could be done in a day or two. Enough of letting these things drag on for weeks.
  8. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 25, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) If you are suspended you are not paid. 9 games although only 1 start is 6% of their salary where one game is only 1%. Pitchers are not paid by when the pitch but as the rest of players are. In the case of Contrearas this is a difference of $400K. Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, players are paid their regular salaries during their suspensions. I am not sure if this holds true for steroids.
  9. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 25, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Rogers had an ERA of 3.76 in Arlington from 03-05. Don't blame the stadium for his late season fades. I'll blame the heat then. He is a good pitcher. I hope I'm wrong and the Tigers become the Royals. But they've played the same teams the Sox have and have done a tad better up until now. We scoffed at people who said the White Sox would fade last year, and although the Sox had a history of finishing second (who cares) they fielded a completely different team last year than those teams that finished second, and last time I checked previous year's results have no bearing on the current year's standings. Leyland will not lose the team like Trammell did.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Why does everyone keep saying that? Maroth has pitched so far over his head its ridiculous, today was more accurate to how great he is. Bonderman (the Ace) has a 4.57 ERA and is a career 4.94 ERA pitcher, 2 of his wins were against KC. Rogers fades in the 2nd half like clockwork. The rest of their rotation is garbage, Robertson career ERA 4.70 1.42 WHIP, Verlander is a rookie, you really think he is going to give you 200 innings of sub 3 ERA ball? If you were to look at career numbers for the White Sox staff of last year, Buehrle's numbers were impressive, Contreras' besides winning percentage were horrible, as was Garland's. Garcia had a career ERA around 4.00, and El Duque qualified for social security. I hope the Tigers fade, but they have pitched great, and I'd rather go by what they are doing now as opposed to seasons past when they had a bad team behind them, a manager without a clue, and a generally bad team attitude. Bonderman is a guy who scouts expect to breakout at any time. Verlander throws 98 and is unhittable at times. Rogers is solid, he may not fade because he's not pitching in Texas anymore, and he has a big ballpark to pitch in. Robertson is a #5 starter. He has his moments, and Maroth is a decent pitcher.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) What makes you think they are a good team? The fact that their pitching staff is playing way over their heads? Or the fact that the only decent team they have played, swept them. They are winning games they are supposed to win, and winning a few they probably should lose. Almost a third of the way through the schedule they have the best record in baseball. I think they have a pretty talented starting rotation. Their numbers have been good. Verlander is considered a stud of a prospect. Maroth, except for today has been excellent. Bonderman is a talented guy. Rogers has been a pretty good pitcher in his career, and has been very tough against the White Sox. Robertson isn't bad as a fifth starter. Their bullpen isn't the greatest, but they do have a couple of guys who potentially may be very good. Their line-up is very good, and they have an owner looking to spend some money on pre-deadline additions. People expected the White Sox to collapse last year, and they didn't even with El Duque in the rotation. Finally, they have a manager who is definitely running the show, and he's won before. When they got beat up by the Sox, he popped off, and they've been on a roll ever since.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) They're not that bad. They might be.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) We will crush them the rest of the season, we all know that. These tigers =2003 royals. You cant get by on your opponents being this s***ty for the rest of the season. The Tigers are a good team. If you're looking for them to fall apart, you may be waiting for a while. I think this is their 8th or 9th game against KC this year. I think the White Sox have also played KC 8 or 9 times. Vazquez has 3 starts against them, otherwise his numbers are pretty average.
  14. Its hard to believe the White Sox blew a 6 run lead to the Royals. They are the most pathetic franchise in all of sports. They make the Blackhawks look good.
  15. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 25, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) what happened to Morrisey? He hasn't written anything in awhile - zip on the sox/cubs series. He's undergoing cancer treatment. And is Sullivan on hiatus from the Cubs beat, or just from those stupid Q&A things?
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 25, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) He came up from AAA when Dimitri Young beat his path to the DL. I was looking at past 1st round draft picks yesterday. Dimitri Young was drafted as a SS.
  17. I've been there and its great. On Saturdays they have duck fat fries, very tasty.
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) How do we know what he is throwing right now? The comcast speed gun is broken, last night Haren was averaging 84 MPH and Buehrle was averaging around 77 MPH. Somehow I dont think those are right. Comcast just cannot do anything right The gun at the park had Jenks' fastball between 94-98. The gun also had one of Buerhle's fastballs at 90 so TWIW.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) In San Diego the Ushers hold signs during play at the top of the rows basically stating "We kindly ask all fans to stand on the concourse until a stoppage in play". They will stop you if you try to walk down. The Sox could definitely re-educate the current fanbase by introducing this little rule. I definitely enjoyed the fact that the Padres did this. It would be pretty easy. Just have the ushers hold a chain across the entrance of the aisle. Let people out, but don't let them in until its appropriate. This is how its done in the lower infield boxes at Yankee Stadium.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) I went to a game at the Metrodome last year. The ushers would not let you down to your seat from the concession area during an at bat. It also is the one thing the Blackhawks do right. They way they have been going, I'm sure they'll change this policy soon as well.
  21. The wave sucks, but they have been trying the wave at Sox games for as long as I can remember, even when there were very few in the seats. Unless its a WS game or something similar, if you are constantly drawing 35k, there's going to be a fair share of people who will not be paying any attention to the game. I sure I'm not the only long-time season ticketholder who appreciates everything the increased attendance means to the team, but does miss the conveniences that came with the smaller crowds.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 24, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) draft blunders are a dime a dozen in all sports and especially in baseball are meaningless. That's true. In 1983 the Sox selected Joel Davis. Roger Clemens went 19th to Boston. The 1985 draft was a good one the top 6 players picked were BJ Surhoff, Will Clark, Bobby Witt, Barry Larkin, Kurt Brown, Barry Bonds. Unfortunately the Sox picked the 1 out of the 6 that was a total bust.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) So given that a lot of folks were already juicing in the mid to late 80's, and there were steroids that were known to make people stronger without turning them into post-99-Bonds style monsters, like the stuff Palmeiro was on for so long, is there some reason I should assume that he didn't ever try the stuff until 98? I suppose there isn't. Just like there really isn't anything stopping anyone from saying Frank has juiced. I believe Frank didn't, and Bonds really didn't get very big until after Sosa and McGwire went nuts. Its going to be how a lot of homerun hitters from the last 20 years are viewed. Unfortunately because so many were guilty, even the innocent will have some doubt.
  24. QUOTE(ptatc @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) I won this once I was off 1 number once. It was the same day I was off 1 number on a trip around the world. I've never bought another raffle ticket to anything again.
  25. Thome's in the line-up, so I'm sure, if he really was even hurt its obviously something the Sox weren't concerned with. The Sox and Ozzie are usually over cautious with injuries, so I'm 100% certain Thome is fine.
