  1. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) But, for the record, I think he'll start pitching much better and it's foolish to give up on Garland now, particularly when we have so much invested in him. I don't think anyone has suggested giving up on him. Just take him out when he obviously has nothing and is getting rocked. You never know, you may need a cushion later.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) Soft tosser huh? I didnt know low 90's fastball/sinker pitchers were soft tossers? 2 bad outings and you abandon all hope for a player. Man im glad you arent affiliated with the white sox in any way. You have to admit, being staked to a 6 run lead, and not being able to hold it, despite a couple of misplays, and being staked to an 8 run lead and not being able to keep it a laugher has to be a little concerning.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) He's quite the well-rounded player, isn't he? Yes he is. 2 hits this season, 2 errors this season.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) I'm starting to feel sorry for Pods. Not contributing in any way so far this year. He's getting a little over $2 million for his efforts. I don't feel sorry for him.
  5. It would be nice to have those extra runs given up in order for Garland to qualify for a win, back.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) He relies on hitters getting themselves out. He gives up alot of contact. Sometimes the hits are going to find holes. This is what happened today. Against KC, he pitched very well, then the defense really failed him. Ozzie thought he pitched like s*** vs. KC
  7. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) JG will be the odd man out this winter! If he reverts to his form before last season, his contract will be difficult to move. He'll get better. He can't get worse.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Was AJP's deep fly out close to going out? No.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) Works for me. And all jphat was saying is that he's perfect in save situations this year, cause he kind of is. Shingo was 8 for 9 last year. Where you upset when he was replaced?
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Don't worry. Jenks will come in, let up a 2 run HR, but still get the save. He's perfect on the year! LMAO
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) What did the pitch that hit Thome look like? Was there intention behind it? Cuz if it was, I would love to see Shelton get drilled back. I don't think it was on purpose, but it did almost get his nuts.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I think the tigers just had alot of lucky hits that found the holes today. ^^^^^ jphat's twin
  13. Often leaving pitchers who have nothing in a game just so they can get a win, means a loss for the team.
  14. Garland was getting pummelled at the end of spring training. They have to get him out of the game.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Farmer is a dolt. You just realized this?
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Who's been walked more? I know Thome was intentionally walked a few times against the Tribe, and I think they did in KC, too. I love Jermaine Dye's throwing arm. Pretty stupid move by Gene Lamont.
  17. When Garland's not getting grounders, it tends to be a struggle.
  18. Thome already has as many road homers this season as Frank Thomas had in 3 of the past 4 seasons.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) McCarthy is needed for other situations, not this. If McCarthy took over the closer role, then Jenks would be a set-up guy, his initial role when he joined the team. You're right about the fact the Sox would then basically have no "long" man. Someone who could go more than 3 innings in the bullpen. But that might not be necessary with the calibur of the White Sox rotation, although Vazquez has been known to have very short outings from time to time, and that could blow the bullpen out, but Buerhle follows him, and he's pretty much a guarantee to go deep into a game.
  20. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) I do miss that gong. The gong was nice.
  21. FWIW, Shingo was 8 for 9 in save opportunities for the White Sox last season. Most people here wanted to put him on a spit.
  22. I was watching something on ESPN, and they had this little tidbit: In 1990, the 2 highest paid players were Kirby Puckett of the Minnesota Twins, and Robin Yount of the Milwaukee Brewers. The highest team payroll belonged to the Kansas City Royals. My, how things have changed.
  23. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Where did I say that? I said he's perfect on the year. Which he is. He's done the job all four times that he has been called upon. And for teh most part he's ahd a really good year. Just one bad pitch to Shelton. The other run was a bomb by Reggie Sanders on a good pitch. Don't turn into jabroni and start putting words into people's mouths. It's embarassing. Last season you ranked pitchers based entirely on their ERA. You also said record wasn't important. Now Jenks ERA is over 6.00 and you are saying he's having a good year I'm guessing based on 3 saves in 3 save opportunities. I'm trying to understand. A save doesn't make it a great outing. 2 of his 3 saves he had the maximum lead allowed by rule to begin the inning to get credit for the save. He was shaky in both outings but got credited with a save in both. His other save was a 2 run lead, and he looked great. His other outing he pitched 1/3 of an inning, and was having a tough time locating. Of his 4 appearances, I would say he was great in 1, poor in 2, and incomplete in the other. Hopefully he can keep his curveball down, and if he regains velocity, his fastball up. When he got hurt last season it was on low fastballs.
