QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:09 AM) I would guess that even if Brian is "sent" down, he'd stick around until Thursday, so the fact that he flew to Texas doesn't seem significant to me. Charlotte's season doesn't end until Sept. 5, but why bother going back there for a couple of games. Hawk made a pretty good point yesterday regarding call-ups. Many veterans don't want many around. They make the planes and clubhouse a little more crowded, they cut into their first place money shares, etc.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I love how 'most' people on this board are wrong but you're right. Most would be more than half. I'm not the only one who believes he is overrated.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) He'd be more valuable than Adkins as a late inning defensive replacemet or pinch runner. Adkins more than likely will not be used in the playoffs. Again, they need Adkins for this series in Texas. 4 games in 3 days against a loaded offense in oppressive heat, with McCarthy who has been lit up by them going Tuesday. Worry about defensive replacements and pinch runners for the playoffs when the team has officially clinched a spot in them.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) So you have Adkins up for the next 4 games because you might need him. Meanwhile he becomes eligeble for the playoff roster (where he is not needed) and a player like Anderson becomes ineligeble. With Pods back, Anderson wasn't going to see any time in the playoffs. He had 1 great game. He knocked around a rookie phenom. He struggled against veterans, which is what he'd be facing in the playoffs. If someone gets hurt, he still may be added to the playoff roster.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) There has to be some kind of move that KW can make to help the offense. Nobody can tell me that there is nothing at all he can do to upgrade something. I think it was you that I had this conversation with. Everyone is going to use the excuse of having Pods back as a reason to stand pat this deadline. Pods out isn't the reason this team is struggling on offense. I agree with you there. Pods is obviously better than Timo, but he's not nearly as good as most people on this board give him credit for, and its no guarantee he will remain healthy or start stealing bases again like he did at the beginning of the season. This team needs someone who can drive the ball and knock runs in. Everett shouldn't be a 3 hole hitter. Griffey would have been perfect, but that's not happening. I really doubt KC would trade Sweeney to the Sox or that he would approve a trade to Chicago, but this is the type of hitter they need. Supposedly they are looking at Ibanez, and while that doesn't excite me, its better than nothing. I'd even think about Nomar, although I doubt the Cubs would do the Sox any favors. When he gets hot, he puts up numbers like he's in little league. Chances are they will stay with what they have, which if it falls short will subject them to a lot of criticism, and as unfair as it may be we will be subjected to hearing how cheap JR is for an entire winter.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) But would you rather have Adkins or Anderson on your playoff roster? Injuries sometimes occur, and the Sox still need an extra pitcher this week with no days off and a DH. Adkins sucks, but he was a godsend today, giving the rest of the bullpen a break.
-
This team desperately needs offense. The starters at the infield corners today had combined for a whopping 7 rbi this season. It will be interesting to see how long the starting pitching is able to hold up. The intensity needed to hold teams to 2 runs or less usually takes its toll at some point. It would be nice to give them a break and bring in someone who could produce runs.
-
Well, he won a game for us, and looks like he may become a pretty productive player. I would imagine he'll be back in a week.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) ...so you're saying we got a chance! Kudos for quoting on of the greatest movies of all-time.

Griffey is not coming to the White Sox.

Griffey says he hasn't talked to anyone with the Reds about a trade. Levine said Griffey told the Sox he was flattered but wanted to stay in Cincinatti. Levine said a week or so ago the Sox and Konerko were close on an extension, the Tribune has an article about Konerko's contract status and it said no negotiations have or will occur until the season is over. Levine said the Sox and Cubs would do nothing at the trade deadline. They were not earth shattering deals, but both teams made moves. Levine said there was no chance Freddy Garcia would sign an extension with the Sox, because he wanted to test free agency. He signed an extension a couple days later. Levine said he would stake his reputation on the Sox signing Omar Vizquel. Vizquel signed with San Francisco. Levine reported AJ Burnett to the Sox was pretty much a done deal. The teams were never close. I have no idea why a station would actually pay this guy money to be an "insider". He is a joke. I would like to propose a ban on Bruce Levine information, unless it is also being reported somewhere else. He is far too inaccurate.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) E-Lo is having a solid year. Maybe looking at 12-14 wins if he were on a team with a better offense. Same can be said with count. It is a toss up between the two right handers in last year's trade. But, I have to lean towards Count. They have similar #'s when you compare an AL pitcher to a NL pitcher. Count also has a higher ceiling (even at 33 years old) and has the potential to show flashes of dominance. Looks pretty even. Count should have a couple more victories, he also probably has a better upside, although EL had a magical year in 2003 that would be hard for anyone to duplicate.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) What a disaster this could turn out to be. I can't believe he lifted Jenks for Marte. He did give up a swinging bunt -

If this game goes extra innings, the Sox are pretty much screwed. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) We definitely got lucky there. Bad slide by Ichiro. He looked like he was running in quicksand going around 3rd as well. I was shocked they had a play, I would have thought Ichiro would have scored easily. -

They have given Anderson some pretty tough match-ups his first couple weeks in the major leagues. -

Cotts is a much better match-up for Sexson, but they still have the lead. Leave Jenks in. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Great job by Cotts there. Will Ozzie bring in Jenks to face Sexson? I'd of let Cotts face Sexson. Righties aren't hitting much off him, and I'd bring Jenks in to handle the ninth.
