QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) I'm having a flashback of a certain loooooong Twins game. Our bullpen won't be able to go that long without surrendering a run tonight. -

Everett is not a #3 hitter. Our offense is offensive. -

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) hit it to center reed has the worst arm in the group. Unless its a little bloop Anderson will score. He has good speed, and you know he's going to be busting. -

Brian Anderson was the entire offense tonight. This offensive funk is still going on. Uribe looks like he's trying to hit the ball 500 ft. -

El Duque has his runs, he has to put them away. If this offense could only score 4 or 5 runs a game consistently again, my blood pressure would drop below stroke levels. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) I thought first homer was on a low fastball. It was. Then he got a hanger. Pretty impressive. -

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) He does act like Freddy. That same walk to the dugout, the way he catches the ball and the look on his face. You think he'll pound about 40 beers after the game? -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Neither one of those pitches were right down the middle. They were low and away. He could sit there and throw to that corner all night and they have no choice. He has to swing at that curve because it looks like a fastball going to paint the corner again, unless he is just guessing curveball and hoping and thats when you get K'ed looking like AJ. The first one was right down the middle. And both of them were a hell of a lot more hittable than the one he swung at. -

You have to sit on this guy"s fastball. If he snaps off one of his turbo hooks, you will not hit it. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Dude. He was throwing 98 on the corners and dropping a sick curve. DO you know how baseball works? Have you played? Do you know how hard it is to hit a 97 mph fastball low and away right on the corner that will be called a strike? It's next to impossible. Konerko took 2 fastball strikes, the first one right down broadway, then swings at a hook in the dirt. It was a clueless terrible AB. -

The Mariners are very protective of this guy, as they should be. I'm sure he's on a pretty strict pitch count. At the very least, Sox hitters need to work the count. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) That's the understatement of the year. After a while, you have to realize that the offensive coordinators aren't too blame.....but Jerry Angelo is because this offense has no talent. It boggled my mind when they gave Angelo the extension. He must work real cheap. -

Timo made a stupid mistake, but Everett or Konerko would have had to get a hit to score him. Everett looked like he had no chance. -
So they no longer care about the people who doubt them. Nice. Is there anyone on this board that doesn't have some doubt they won't be able to go all the way? I know taking 2 out of 3 against a depleted Minnesota team got rid of some of the jiitters, but c'mon. Konerko needs to start concentrating on driving runners home who are in scoring position with less than 2 out, and maybe continue playing baseball when the umpire rules the ball fair. He already tried playing GM saying they don't want any reinforcements, then goes and compliments a reinforcement on yesterday's win. Now if you doubt them, he doesn't want you. Sorry, when you are supporting a team that hasn't done squat in 88 years, doubt becomes a large part of the equation. On the other hand, maybe they really don't want the doubters. They seem to play better in front of a bunch of empty blue seats. When they play as bad as they played the previous 2 weeks, I believe Mark Buerhle even questioned the effort, they deserve to get booed. If Konerko doesn't like it, he can go find another job his high school diploma will allow him to do.
-
It depends on the opponent, and on how these guys finish up. I don't think Buerhle should be pitching game 1 if they are playing Oakland. 1993, McDowell started Gm 1, and he did win the Cy that year, but at the time both Alvarez and Bere were pitching much better than him. Ozzie remembers.
-
It didn't hurt that Stewart and Jones were missing the last 2 games, although Jones wouldn't have faced Buerhle. And Hunter not playing was a break. The offense is going to have to come out of it. Its unlikely the pitching staff will hold playoff teams to 0 and 1 run every game or at least enough games to win each series. If they can get back to scoring 4 or 5 runs consistently it would take a huge load off of the pitchers.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) El-duque needs to bring his A game. He is pitching against a young phenom in Felix Hernandez, and with our offense- El-duque can only afford to give up 2-3 runs. Although Seattle is having a bad season- they still have Sexon, Ichiru and Beltre and thats still a dangerous trio. I think El Duque has to pitch a shutout, or give up less than 2 runs to have a chance at winning. Our offense lately+Hernandez+being on the west coast=not many runs.
