QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Not with that 8 million dollar option he has if he reaches 500 ABs this season. I'm not signing the checks.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) The fact is, we should not be talking about Brian Anderson, unless it's an emergency. If there's an emergency in the next two weeks, it will be Borchard like it or not. They need a dangerous bat, not a 23 yr. old with 100+ K's in AAA. Not to discredit Anderson but they need somebody just a little more dangerous. You're right. Brian Anderson is not the answer in 2005. I would take Dmitri Young at this point.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) He - would - be - sitting - on - the - bench - fathom. Six years from now you'd be worried about Anderson leaving, and complaining that his FA year came up too early because he got called up with a 12.5 game lead. Brian Anderson is no savior. He'll be up in 2.5 weeks anyways. We can only hope we'd be b****ing about Brian Anderson leaving in 6 years.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) Right, what would our life be without yet another conspiracy theory? The White Sox have probably the most aggressive GM in the league. KW is definitely aggressive. The other thing is other organizations may not have a very high opinion of our minor leaguers.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) You know, I always wondered why whenever a GM doesn't make a trade, they always say it's because other teams were asking for the world. I'm not saying it's not true, but it's a very convenient excuse a lot of the time. I bet everyone thought the asking price for Matt Lawton was supposed to be a lot more than Jody Gerut. The fact that there wasn't much activity at the deadline makes me believe the asking prices were unreasonable. I thought Lawton was a nice pick up by the Cubs and thought he would look good in a White Sox uniform if you couldn't acquire anyone else. He'd look good in LF tonight.

QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) Thats it we won't get him. He loves griffey said he was the best player in the nineties. To me this means KW and Ozzie privately said we won't get him so start talking up the team we have. If he thinks Everett or Dye is better than Griffey than he is an idiot. I agree, in fact I think I posted that thought exactly when it occurred.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) Not sure, was that before or after Pierzynski, Iguchi, etc.? It was after AJ, before Iguchi. KW tried to get some guys at the deadline. He found out nobody is inclined to help the team with the best record unless they want to pay a ridiculous price.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) And if they got him he'd sing a different tune. He is, after all, an employee of the White Sox. It really isn't so surprising that he'd defend what they do, or don't do. I know. Believe me, no one appreciates the Hawk more than I do. I actually get a kick out of him. I did find that line almost insulting, however. I think, considering the odds of Griffey coming to the Sox remote at best, he would just say nothing.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Yet we don't need offensive help according to Hawk! The scary thing about our offensive struggles is that Iguchi and PK, as well as AJP, have been terrific the last month or so. Hawk is silent again tonight on his "where would he play" BS regarding Griffey. He actually started popping that off in a game Timo was batting fifth as a DH.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) Is that Timo's nickname or something? No its how Ozzie pronounces Sushi. His nickname for Timo is Sucki
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) She has a big nose and a long face. There were at least 20 other babes there last night that were way better. The place is full of babes. We were eating in the downstairs nightclub area. Look at the riverwalk area on the site. Thats where we were. Probably one of the hottest spots to go and look at poon. Wife likes the Sushi. Ozzie likes Suchi.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) Defensively, Blum is superior. Yeah, I just looked at his stats, 109 ks in less than 300 abs. Maybe he's not better than Blum, maybe booster shots have aided his performance in the past.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Pass! He's terrible on defense, and his numbers weren't the same after steroid testing. Bellhorn needs to be on a team where they appreciate walks. No chance in hell that happens with the Sox. I think he's better than Blum.
-
Hawk mentioned earlier that there was talk Boston may release Bellhorn. He can play all the infield positions, and while striking out often he does draw a lot of walks and can hit it over the wall. KW needs to do something. This team is going to have a very difficult time in the playoffs. The first round is either going to be against Boston or a West Coast team in all likelyhood. Strange things have happened against Oakland and Boston this year. And the Sox have had a recent history of struggling in Anaheim.
-
This has the makings of a route.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) Let's face it, if anybody besides Crede and Uribe go down were screwed Uribe going down would really screw the Sox. He's a lot better than you think.
-
Garland is graduating with honors tonight in the El Duque and Count Pitching school. He goes 3-2 on every hitter. Buerhle and Garland have looked like crap against a possible and probable playoff opponent. Garland looks like he has no confidence tonight.
-
I don't understand why you have a guy who rides pine most of the time in the lead off spot. This policy of sliding the sub into the regulars spot in the lineup is ridiculous. Its the same policy that has Timo batting 5th on occassion.
-
Why don't they ever make Crede advance a runner?
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I'm not looking too much into that. The TV gun is wrong sometimes, registering a few MPH slow. I know what you're saying, but when he went a couple innings in KC he was 97-99 in inning 1 and 92-94 in inning 2, and that was the same gun.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) Blum continues to impress with the White Sox. Why did Ozzie pinch hit for Uribe in a 9-5 game, but not for Crede when it was 6-5.
-
Its a pretty tough situation to put Jenks in. He is a rookie, expect some mistakes.
-
Its a shame he couldn't leave Cotts in to face Renteria. RH hitters hit .112 against Cotts and .300 against Jenks. Ozzie makes this foolish move and its called a gut move, he doesn't play by the book. If Manuel was managing and made that move, Hawk would be b****ing about it until the cows or Wimpy came home.
-
In other bad news, Rex Grossman supposedly broke his ankle in 2 places and will require surgery.
-
Anyone still think Jenks is a first ballot HOFer?
