  1. Will Carroll in Baseball Prospectus said the White Sox sweetened their offer to Philadephia for Wagner by throwing Crede in. It was McCarthy, Marte and now Crede. Maybe it means they would acquire Huff to play 3b. Maybe it isn't even true. But it is some new information.
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) with all his injuries does anybody think that because of all Frank's injuries that Sox could sign to like a Matt Morris type deal in the off-season. That's all he could hope for. Maybe like a base of $3 million with a lot of bonuses. This is assuming he isn't completely done. Frank is going to get a $3.5 million buyout. Considering 3 of the last 5 years his season has been cut short by major injuries, if he's able to play again, I doubt any team would guarantee him anywhere near $3 million . That is assuming Levine's report to be correct. Its also funny how people who have bought the White Sox "more balanced" offense bunk, are also going on and on about what a force Frank was this season. He was the ultimate all or nothing guy, that's all his body would allow him to do. It was basically a homerun, a strikeout, a pop out or a double play this year. Hopefully KW can get a legitimate #3 hitter in the next couple of days. The White Sox will be far better off with someone new than with Frank Thomas playing at 50-75%.
  3. He also has a no trade and supposedly won't waive it unless he goes to the west coast. It ain't happening.

  6. QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Even hitting .220 Frank is still a more valuable hitter than anyone else the Sox have. A hell of a lot better than Everett or Gload, for sure. I disagree. Unless he was going to be able to keep that homerun pace up.
  7. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) if he re-fractured it after 7 months of rehab and playing for only for about 2 months, it may be time to hang them up. They mentioned the possibility of fusion surgery last winter. From what I was told fusion surgery would end his career.
  8. They have been winning most of the season without Frank. This actually could be a blessing. He wasn't going to be 100% anyway, and except for the homeruns, really added nothing offensively. Now, it appears KW will be forced to add a bat. The chances are that bat would be more effective down the stretch and hopefully into the playoffs than what Frank would have been able to provide at his ankle's top condition this season.
  9. You could see this coming. I wish it wasn't announced until after the deadline. KW's going to have to pay a little extra for a bat. Is there another break? I wouldn't be surprised if Frank is done.
  10. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Trading Crede, Rowand or even Politte are the things I worry about. Those moves will undoubtedly affect chemistry and alter the whole "Team" thing we have going on right now. If they are traded for better players, I'd take my chances on the chemistry thing. As far as feeling bad for guys when they are traded, they just need to suck it up and move along. The business is cold, but the players are paid handsomely for all their inconveniences. If they don't like it, there are plenty of people willing to take their place, and plenty of other things they can do with their lives.
  11. He has missed events, that was mis-reported. He does have a problem with Sandberg going to the HOF though. I think because this is well known, its probably for the best that he's not there. You know that would be a huge topic.
  12. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) wow, some people just dont get it, of course they care. if the team does better, they make more money. but the key here is that they dont want to spend money. youre right, they dont care if the team loses 100 as long as they get their money. BUT if the team can win 80 games, and ownership spends the same....lamarr and co. will make more money. so to say that they dont care at all if the team wins or not, but claim that they care about their money is complete ignorance I think the point was they are happy with the current situation, and wouldn't want to spend more money to make their team more attractive and increase their profit on the chance it may not work.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) I'd be OK with Vegas.. might be relocating there PT in the near future and then I wouldn't spend so much $$ on travel to see games. OT.. woo hoo.. I'm going to B'more tonight. As soon as the NBA or MLB put a team there, the other one will follow. Its going to happen. If anyone has seen drawings of the proposed baseball stadium there, its has such a huge amount of suites, it looks like there are hardly any seats. Hangar18 of WSI would be outraged.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) If it's relocation, Las Vegas probably makes the most sense for them. You could just have a 4 team AL East and a 5 team AL West, instead of a 5 team AL East and a 4 team AL West. There really is a shortage of cities to place a team. Las Vegas has to be at the top. Maybe Portland, that's about it. The one place I think that makes the most sense but I doubt it will ever happen is placing another team in NYC. And if the contract a team, they have to contract at least 2, can't have an odd number of teams in baseball like you can in the other sports.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Like I said earlier the majority of those blown saves will have come from when he's pitched more than 1 inning. 4/22 - 2.2 IP 5/13 - 2.2 IP 5/17 - 1.1 IP 5/30 - 1 IP 6/4 - 1.2 IP 6/8 - 1.1 IP 7/26 - 2 IP He also blew 10 saves with Cleveland in 2003. This guy is not who you want on the mound with the game on the line.
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Jenks is the sexy new prospect. We get it. But, think outside the box folks. If you're able to use Jenks to acquire a guy like Wagner, you do it in half a heartbeat, no questions asked. We needs someone with veteran/post-season expierence and Jenks ain't it. I'm not saying the guy can't contribute this season, but he won't be able to contribute on the same level as say, Billy Wagner. If Jenks grew a shaggy beard, he be Bob James.
  17. Why would anyone think Baez would be a bullpen upgrade? The guy has 7 blown saves this year. Shingo was 8 for 9 in save chances. If you've been frustrated by Marte, Shingo and Vizcaino, you'll be equally frustrated by Mr. Baez. And on top of that, adding a guy like Embree? You guys must be masochists.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) Baez's numbers arent all that good. For what Lamar is asking I wouldnt go for it. I would rather make a pitch for Overbay from the Brewers. What is Lamar asking? I can assure you KW would not trade Marte for Baez straight up, let alone sweetening the pot.
  19. They aren't going to trade him now unless they get equal talent back. In the offseason when the Red Sox would have free agents to go after, you would be able to get Ramirez for a song if you were willing to pick up his contract. 2 years ago they placed him on irrevocable waivers. If anybody claimed him, he was their's. Even the Yankees said no. Depending upon how much of the Yankee payroll comes off the books this offseason, I wouldn't be shocked if they did it again.
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Do you guys mean Todd Jones? He was writing columns for Sporting News and still does. He is also the closer for the Marlins. No Doug Jones was a closer with the Indians, and pitched for several other teams. He couldn't break a pane of glass with one of his pitches, but he had a great change and located well. He looked like a weekend softball player and had one of those moustaches you have to lift up with one hand while you shove food in your mouth with the other.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) He was effective for how many years in Japan? MLB figured him out in 1 year, lmao. His control was not what it was last year. If he gets that back, and he did have it back for a while this season, he still would be fooling hitters. His strikeout rate is still pretty high. IIRC its still over 1 an inning, and considering he throws nowhere near 95, the hitters don't have him totally figured out. Doug Jones went through a year or two of being tatooed and he was the same kind of pitcher Shingo was. He came back, I believe Shingo can as well.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Official??? Apparently. There is a press release on whitesox.com saying he's been optioned to Charlotte. The Score is reporting he is going there.
  23. Shingo's going to Charlotte. Gong.
  24. Is HGH not in the MLB Policy or just not tested for? What difference it makes I don't know, but I'm just curious.
  25. The White Sox could really use some more bullpen help, and some more offense. I've never seen the point of acquiring Burnett............unless he nets you Wagner.
