  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) Well actually I think he was pitching on normal schedule He pitched Friday. 4 days rest would mean he'd be up next again on Wednesday.
  2. Look at who he faced, plus he wasn't pitching on his normal schedule. I'm not worried. As long as his sinker is working, he'll be tough to hit.
  3. QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) 1)of course i'm exaggerating to get my point across, but it's really not far off. lately, it's been like 5 times a week. 2)he doesn't mention manuel directly, that's the point that he's being a wuss. he refers to manuel's regime as "the people that were here before" ozzie. and he is out to rip on manuel. 3)watch and you'll see I love Hawk but I agree his Manuel bashing is excessive and pointless. If you aren't going to bash him when he's here don't do it over a year after he left. Jerry Manuel was and probably still is a classy man. He did his job like he thought should be done. The bottom line is if his pitchers pitched like they have this season he still would be managing the Sox. His approach worked great in 2000. Many of the great things Hawk says about Ozzie he was saying about Jerry in 2000. He needs to move on.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Maybe look a little deeper than the 1-3 record? By the way, one win is more wins than the White Sox have had in the postseason in almost 12 years. El Duque is a lot older now. The league used to hit .230 against him when he posted those numbers. Maybe he rounds into form. I wouldn't count on it. There are some people who are under the impression that he is an automatic win in the postseason. I wonder if he'll even be available to pitch.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) We dont need El Duque to pitch every 5th day in the 2nd half. We need him for the playoffs, to start and win the decisive game. And to pitch a few innings here and there down the stretch. If we get another starter, then he got to be better than what we have in the playoffs. As of right now, you are looking at MB, Garland, Freddy and El Duque in the playoffs, I am VERY comfortable with that if we make it. El Duque is aging quickly. His batting average against this year is almost .300. He does have a 9-3 career post season record. However, he is 1-3 since 2001. Expecting him to be the savior this postseason would not be wise IMHO. This is not the Orlando Hernandez of 1998. His shoulder is beat up. Cunning and guile can only get you so far when you can't spot your pitches.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) What is wrong with everyone. I didnt know this was Kenny Rogers love time. The guy flat out blows down the stretch and in postseason play. With respect to Kyle. Kenny Rogers Postseason numbers 3 division series(4 games pitched, 2 started) with a record of 0-1, 7.7 innings pitched, and ERA of 7.04, 11 hits, 6 Earned Runs, 5 BB, 10 K 2 Championship series (4 games pitched, 2 starts) with a 0-2 record, 10.7 innings pitched, 7.59 ERA, 16 hits, 9 Earned Runs, 9 BB, 5 K World Series (9 games pitched, 5 games started) with a 0-3 record, 20.3 innings, 32 hits, 20 earned runs, 16 BB, 15 Ks El Duque is proven a better player in the situation. Kenny Rogers is missing ALOT of games and is a notoriously slow second half player. With respect to everyone, Kenny Rogers sucks at the end of the year and in the clutch. He is NOT the solution. I think Rogers is going to fall off the second half. I also don't think there's a chance in hell El Duque will make it through the second half without being DL'd again. KW is going to have to bring in reinforcements. Standing pat is not the right thing to do, and is not one of his characteristics. The goal is the world championship. Money is not an issue. Barring injuries, I think the White Sox 25 man roster is going to be looking a lot stronger on August 1st than it is right now, and its not too bad right now.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Have you played sports before? As a matter of fact I didn't have to pay for college because I played sports. Your point.
  8. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) I think this Chemistry thing has a lot to do with Oz,Walker.Coop, and Harold. I think that it is a club house that is laid back and with very little pressure. Rogers is a pro and would be fine with this team. Chemistry is a bunch of BS someone once made up when there was no statistical explanation as to why a team was winning. Now every time a team does well, they have great "chemistry". There are plenty of teams who hated each other and still won, and there are a lot of teams that hung out everywhere together and loved each other but still sucked. Teams that pitch and field the best, and get the timely hits, Hawk's best line is don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it, wins the game. For years Frank Thomas couldn't get a hit to save his life in a 1 run game, but if the score was 10-2 he was going deep. He has changed that around the last couple of years, and has a few teammates that can get a big hit when the game's on the line, something this team has lacked for a few years. Any top quality pitcher would be an solid addition to this team, whether he is the greatest guy in the world or the biggest jerk.
  9. Rowand is hitting .307 after the All Star break over his career. Griffey usually doesn't play after the break. Replacing Rowand with Griffey is crazy talk. I wouldn't mind Griffey as a DH next season if Thomas isn't back.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Griffey cant play a corner OF spot because of his knee's.... Idonno they did a special on it where it said the CF spot is actually easier on him because of some reason or not. As far as his defense is today.... Idonno if some of you guys havent seen him play but he is still making those gold glove catches and his range is fine. He's making diving catches on balls he used to make look routine. The balls he used to make spectacular catches on are going for doubles and triples. I have seen the Reds play 1 game this year. Griffey got a horrible jump on a ball that went for a triple. The pitcher, IIRC it was Merker, couldn't believe Griffey couldn't get to the ball. If he can only play CF, he's not a championship caliber CF at this point in his career.
  11. Aren't you supposed to celebrate championships by going looting? I've got some nice stores in my neighborhood.
  12. Griffey is probably a better hitter than Rowand, if he stays healthy. That is a huge if. Defensively, Griffey of 2005 is nowhere near the Griffey of 1995. He really should be playing a corner. Rowand has struggled lately and is not getting any extra base hits. This should change. He is a career .307 hitter after the all star break. He should heat up.
  13. This is a no-brainer for Terry Ryan. The Twins are only paying the prorated portion of the minimum salary. They give up a prospect to be named later, probably not a very good one.
  14. Gload has suddenly gone very cold for the Knights.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) They wont have much payroll flexibility in the trade market after this move. They are paying very little of Boone's remaining salary. I doubt they had much flexibility to begin with. Its really a shame for Twins fans considering Pohlad is one of the richest, if not the richest owner in all of baseball. Boone may still have a little in the tank. It seems most players the Twins acquire contribute mightily to their success. All that said, 9 games is a pretty big deficit, and I think KW can trump that move several times over.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) That's what I'm hearing. El Duque should be called up for the 1st game against the Tigers on Monday. The positives on the sweep: - Bye-bye Kevin Walker, Wille Harris and Bobby Jenks. - The team has a reason to keep playing hard day in and day out. No cake walk into the post season. An 11 or 12 game lead into the break might have given some of these guys too much of a cushion. I want to see this team bust ass until the final game. Teams that coast in don't seem to do as well in post season play. - Getting swept also magnified some of our weaknesses. KW will have more reason to go out and tweak this team. Lets face it we need more help in the pen, another reliable starter and one more bat. BTW - YIPPEE!! My 100th post! El Duque pitched 4 innings today giving up 4 hits and 1 run Marte pitched 1.2 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run with 1 BB and 1 K and 1 WP
  17. El Duque 4 innings 4 hits 1 run Marte 1.2 innings 4 hits 1 run 1 bb 1 k 1 wp
  18. I just turned on the Charlotte game and BMac gives up a 2 run shot. The Knights trail 4-0.
  19. At least some good news today.
  20. I just came back from the game, and I'll tell you what I found to be shocking. Jason Kendall had 2 dinks to rightfield drop again today. Carl Everett positions himself for Jason Kendall in exactly the same spot he plays for Eric Chavez. That's ridiculous. Vizcaino had the dreaded lead off walk, and that kills you almost every single time. Harris fails to advance the runner, but it really didn't matter as Rowand pops up to the firstbaseman on the first pitch.
  21. JR just said on AM1000 that if KW wanted someone he couldn't imagine money being a problem.
  22. JR is going to be on Talkin Baseball on AM1000. They didn't say when.
  23. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) please kenny get rid of willie and walker. im begging, you see. Willie,Walker and Jenks gone. El Duque, Marte and Gload in. That's the way I see it.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) He really is.....but he's still going to Charlotte. BALLGAME. Timo's not going anywhere. Did you here Ozzie's press conference after the game last night? It sounded like Ozzie was preparing to present Timo to the Hall of Fame.
  25. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) So who does Gload replace? Its got to be Harris. Or a trade.
