  1. Don't play the infield in. You can still get the force at the plate if Politte is in the stretch.
  2. 100 mph is so quick. I once turned a pitching machine up to 100 to see what it looked like, and I was taking a few swings. I swung and missed a couple then I hit one and the head of my aluminum bat when flying at the machine. It broke the aluminum bat in two.
  3. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) Frank looks terrible. The guy's throwing 100. If he gets the slider over its good night Irene. Konerko can turn the fastball around.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) PK has a much better chance of hitting Farnsy than anyone else on our team. That's what I was thinking. Hopefully Frank coaxes a BB
  5. If Frank ever centered one of Farnworth's fastballs it would probably go 600 ft.
  6. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) wow what a catch by inge, hes one hell of a player The Tigers were giving him away a few years ago. No one wanted him. He's very valuable.
  7. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) You dont know that. You don't know where he would have been playing or what kinda jump he would have gotten. Aaron is famous for having a few bad reads himself. If you don't want to give up a triple and tons of hits, you have to keep the other team from hitting the ball hard everytime. Pods should have made the play. If Rowand was out there and the play wasn't made, it should have been. Pods gets a bad read almost everytime a ball is hit to him. Once he loses a couple of steps, he'll be selling insurance.
  8. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) Pitching to your surroundings. That's a good point.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) 6 in a row retired by McCarthy And the last guy to reach base struck out.
  10. Rodriquez hits one to the wall again. He must be frustrated.
  11. Dmitri Young has been brutal this series. Wonder if he still thinks the Tigers are going to win the division.
  12. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) Did Johnson help Houston get to the World Series in 1998? I believe the answer is no. What did Johnson cost Houston? Two future All-Stars. So was it worth it to Houston? Half a season of a stud pitcher for 5 or 6 years of two All-Stars. Would Houston have won the WS since if they didn't make that trade. The answer is no. Its worth the gamble.
  13. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Precisely... they have comparable ERAs despite Schmidt pitching in a pitcher's league and park. And how has El Duque faired lately? What is his prognosis? Rest didn't help him last time. Schmidt has won 3 in a row. Using your logic, Houston would never have traded for Randy Johnson in 1998. He was horrible in Seattle that year, and was going to a bandbox where he dominated. If Schmidt is consistanly throwing 94 or 95 then its a pretty good gamble to go for it all.
  14. I'm pretty sure White Sox fans are the only ones who would b**** when their team with the best record in baseball, who haven't won a World Series in almost 90 years, are rumored to be interested in acquiring an ace pitcher to add to their depth, and block him from going to a rival.
  15. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Granted, he's hurt, but Gload's numbers from last year project better than Snow's and he's the same kind of hitter. Plus, I'm not saying he's the key to the deal. If swapping Sweeney instead of Anderson, or Bajenaru instead of Takatsu/Vizcaino would make the deal, fine. Remember, these are add ons to Contreras/Uribe who are both major league players. I just see no deal for Schmidt or AJ Burnett or any other starter working unless the other team will take Contreras as part of it. We aren't going to have $45 million of a $70 million payroll tied up in 6 starters next year. Schmidt has a buyout. Starting pitchers can be traded. The idea is going for a world championship, not just hoping to make the playoffs and hoping to win a series or two. If the Sox acquired Schmidt for minor leaguers, I guarantee you ESPN would have a different attitude about them. And if they did win the WS, the payroll next year would swell to a lot more than $80 million.
  16. According to the SF Chronicle, there were White Sox scouts watching Schmidt last night. Oriole scouts also. Looks like KW is aiming high.
  17. What's with all the deferred money in Sheffield's contract? Steinbrenner is so cheap.
  18. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) i had a bad feeling before the game. nate robertson doesn't suck, so we're in trouble right now. Its 1-0 , relax.
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Ugh. Figures that we stop hitting as we go into a series at Detroit and at Oakland, where will will have to throw McCarthy against their best pitcher, all while Minnesota gets the pleasure of being the next team to sweep KC and Tampa. I'm not sure I want to think about what our lead will be in a week. The Sox are doomed. Oh well, maybe next year.
  20. In 1985 I went to the Iowa/Michigan football game. Iowa was ranked #1 at the time, Michigan #2. It was a defensive battle, and Iowa won on a field goal with no time on the clock. It was an unbelievable game, and the moments after it was over may have been even more memorable.
