  1. He could have counted the teams on one hand who would have been interested in Joe Torre when the Yankees hired him and only needed his thumb. Now all the ESPN guys would line up to top him off. I don't understand the almost across the board White Sox bashing from ESPN related guys especially. They are making themselves look very petty and dumb so far this season.
  2. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) I'm just going to reference you these brilliant words of Y2HH. Truer words have never been spoken: "We are winning -- WITHOUT Lee. Not to mention we HAD Lee and for three consecutive years we BOMBED. I recall frequent miscues by Lee, spurts of total lazyness, dumb outfield plays and then ultra-hot-streaks where he'd hit multiple home runs and drive in 6 RBI's in a game...when we were already winning that game 10-0. I never recall Lee helping us a lick when we were down 1-0, though. How many times has Pods changed the face of a game just by getting on when we were down 1-0?!" You obviously don't remember the 4th of July game at the Urinal last season when the Sox were losing 1-0 in the top of the ninth when CLee hit one into the bleachers. We also HAD Konerko and we HAD Buerhle and a lot of guys from the team when they bombed that are now on a successful team.
  3. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) I'd like to remind the Lee backers that the Sox are third in the AL in homeruns. Only the Orioles and Rangers have more, and Frank missed the first two months of the season. Good teams need balance. The Sox have plenty of power. What they needed was speed. Pods not only has speed, he has Lou Brock speed. Even without the salary implications, the trade was wise. Power slumps. Speed never slumps. The balance argument coming from last year has been blown way out of proportion. The White Sox struggled last year because their 3rd and 4th place hitters, both among the top hitters in baseball, missed a lot of time with injury, and they were replaced with Joe Borchard, and an injured and way out of shape Carl Everett. That's hard to overcome. The fact of the matter is the Sox have been winning games this year with home runs as well. Pods has a lot of SB, but he has 9 CS and a couple of pick offs. Carlos has 8 SB for Milwaukee and 27 more extra base hits than Scott.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) I would be willing to bet that the Cubs season ticket base is double the Sox. No hard evidence, just a hunch. There's actually a waiting list on Cubs' season tickets
  5. Carlos is having a huge season and is a far superior offensive baseball player than Pods. Defensively, Pods is better, but he's not exactly a Gold Glove left fielder either. I personally think the most positive thing about that trade was the money it freed up to acquire other players. If the money was no object, call me crazy call me dumb, but I would take CLee over Pods and Vizcaino as well.
  6. What type of neighborhood do the Royals play in? The Sox have outdrawn them for years.
  7. If KW trades for a starter, I doubt it would be a #5 type of guy. If I were in charge, I'd give BMac another opportunity, despite his bad location, he was very close to wiggling out of trouble last night. I think if a starter is acquired, it will be a front-line guy to help propel this team to the World Series.
  8. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Dye did an amazing job to make that play even look close. I am not sure how the play looked on TV, but I was at the game... and it was just a lucky hit. I also was at the game, and Dye stood in his tracks for a long while before moving for the ball.
  9. I hope Prior pitches against the White Sox. He will get shelled. Book it.
  10. BMac actually pitched pretty well tonight until the 5th inning. Dye got a horrible jump on a ball that cost him 2 runs.
  11. August 5th is also Elvis Night. It will be full.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) If you could add one big name, what position would you pick? For me ... starting pitcher. Push El Duque or McCarthy to spot start or long relief. Edit: This has the makings of a special season. All bets are off, they have to take the approach of going for it this year (of course you don't want to be stupid and drastically overpay). But to me, right now, every single prospect is available, assuming you get the right piece(s) in return. It would have to be a very special trade, but again, to me all bets are off. I agree 100% with the second part. Its time to go for it. Not at any cost as you said, but this is an opportunity that who knows when and if you might have again.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) If you could add one big name, what position would you pick? For me ... starting pitcher. Push El Duque or McCarthy to spot start or long relief. For me it would be a starting pitcher or a top flight closer. Hermanson makes me nervous.
  14. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) I think we've come to expect something big from KW every deadline, this year may be different. You gotta agree with him, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if he stands pat and it breaks he will get grilled. I agree with KW about going after middle of the road guys, but I would hate to have to rely on rookies in a pennant race and in the playoffs. The money is going to be there. I would be shocked if KW doesn't acquire a big name.
  15. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) His time on the 15 day DL is retroactive to last Wed so it looks like he'll miss 2 starts at the most. KW more so than Oz is upset with El-D because he's not being forth-coming in all this. He waits a day before his next start to tell the team he doesn't feel good enough to go. That makes KW use BMac like a ping-pong ball & he's not going to do that for any one. I think KW was sympathetic until the MRI showed a pristine condition. By pristine I'm assuming there's not even a glimer of fear that there's a major reason for the source of pain. I've never read anything about El-D's conditioning & unless Schneider weigh's in on this we the fan remain in the dark. But pain in the neck & shoulder could mean a whole LOT of things that have nothing to do with his arm. Still you can't argue with a 10-3 2.74 ERA record in post-season. They took MRIs on Danny Wright and Lorenzo Barcelo and found nothing. KW essentially called Barcelo a pussy for complaining about pain, and he wound up having surgery that basically ended his once-promising career. Wright wound up having surgery on his elbow and shoulder. I don't trust that his shoulder is in pristine condition. If it really was, why, going back to August of last season, has he been DL'd 3 times for it? There has to be something wrong.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) If they end up in second its only because Minnesota has been falling apart as of late. I agree with you. What would the mood of this board be if the Sox won 12 of 13 and still were 8 1/2 out?
  17. The dreaded lead-off walk usually comes back to bite you, and Frank is one of the best all-time at coaxing a base on balls. Ozzie knows Frank has as good a chance as anyone of getting on base, and at that point of the game he needed baserunners. With Ozuna available to pinch run, it was a perfect time to use him. The one strike they called on him wasn't even close to being a strike. Frank is still one of the most intimidating presences in the game.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) You may be right. But Cleveland could be in second place in a few days, also. They very well might. They might even finish 2nd at the end of the season. I just don't think so. They are starting a stretch until the ASB that kind of resembles the White Sox August schedule. 6 against Boston, travel to Baltimore for 3 and travel to the Yankees for 4. Their only break is a 3 game series at home with Cincinatti, which is a pretty decent rivalry, even if the Reds are struggling. If they stay hot for this stretch, or at least come out of it less than 10 out, I may believe they have a chance, even then only slim. If the White Sox only played .500 the rest of the season, they win 93. I can't see Cleveland winning 93.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) Are you worried about the Twins or do we have this division all wrapped up? The Twins still have a chance. Cleveland has been on an unbelievable roll, and are going to cool off, probably this week and next when they play Boston 6 times. Minnesota hasn't played well the last week. They'll heat up again.
  20. People were getting all excited about the Cubs a week ago as they were chasing a team with a comparable record to the White Sox. They are quiet now. I suspect all the Cleveland buzz will simmer down by the end of the week. 9 wins in a row, but still 8 1/2 out doesn't seem too promising to me.
  21. He definitely was not in contact with the rubber. No RHP is in contact with the rubber on a throw to first. Only LHP's are.
  22. It they only play .500 the rest of the season they will win 93 games.
  23. They go to the lead in for Sportscenter and of course its "Red hot Yankees, red hot Indians". The Tribe have won 9 in a row, but they are 8 1/2 out. LMFAO
  24. The White Sox win a nationally broadcast game. This really might be the year.
