  1. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Two words: Bill Veeck. Gimmicks work. Not really. Look at the attendance figures when he was the owner.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) well as of now he wont make as much money if he waits a year anyways.... This could be the deepest draft in years and he was already probably a 2nd rounder and with the injury will fall ever further... What's the guarantee he'll make more money next year? He was Big Ten player of the year, he played in the championship game, he can go to Europe and make big money if the draft doesn't work out for him. He should turn pro.
  3. Funny thing is most if not all of the other places in MLB that draw the most don't have any gimmicks to get people in the park. I think Veeck is overestimating how many people would come out to the park for a crazy gimmick. Come see the opera singing ushers? I would bet you would be annoyed by the second inning. The tarp with fans drawn on it? That is the dumbest idea of all time. The old Comiskey kiosk? You visit it once for 2 minutes, look at the cheap, overpriced t-shirts and other novelties and never come back. Who cares about the trains? Writing things with chalk? That wouldn't be worth the expense of getting someone up to write it every day. People painting themselves and standing like statues? I see that at Water Tower Place. Not the most exciting thing to see. The way to increase attendance is to increase the season ticket base. People are like sheep. When they see the White Sox are drawing well they will want to go to games. The best way to increase the season ticket base is to offer better incentives and discounts to season ticketholders. Right now there is a discount, but is really not that much considering the commitment that is being made, and the other discounts that are available to non-season ticketholders.
  4. El Duque's deal is he is old, and probably hurt.(Shoulder)
  5. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Murph is the motherf***ing man IMO and an absolute joy to listen to. What's your specific beef? And Boers is right in that the history of our franchise absolutely SUCKS. Currently, we have no players that the casual fan can get behind other than what, Frank Thomas? I can concede these things, and I'm hoping that others can as well. Just laugh it off. We're not sexy at all, we're like Joan Cusack in a bathing suit. I was having a good day until I read your last sentence. Now I'm going to be picturing that all night.
  6. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) I found a guy on St Pats day... 4 seats Section 325, row 2...and parking pass for $210 I think I got a better deal! It wouldn't be a bad deal if there was a section 325. Unfortunately there is not.
  7. He mentioned he was on vacation. If he was on vacation why was he on Around the Horn? I think his vacation wasn't voluntary.
  8. What are the odds Jackson has to go to the hospital on his way to court?
  9. Scouts have long thought AJ would eventually develop good power.. He is 240 lbs.
  10. I don't think its any coincidence that the Sox came back and won the game when they put their regulars into the game, thus eliminating the dreaded Sunday line-up. Great roadtrip.
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Will Marte come in? I think they said he will be out a few more days.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Call me crazy but Id go back to Dustin. I think Politte is going to stay in. Hermanson has pitched a lot lately.
  13. QUOTE(kman @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) tight s*** was it a bomb/no doubter or did you have your doubts? It was way out. A bomb.
  14. This is why you don't rest Rowand on Sunday. Mercy!
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) All these blown chances are going to bite us in the ass. The longer this game goes, the closer we are to Shingo Time. Shingo may be alright at Petco Park.
  16. If this game makes it to the 11th, I bet it will be Shingotime.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) What are righties doing vs. Hammonds, curious. I think it was .219
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) Lefties hit .100 against Hammond this year. Thus, Everett swings from the left side, and strikes out weakly. I just don't see why we try to play smallball early in the game, but then at the end of the game, we seem to play for the 2-run homer. Hasn't Everett hit better right handed this year also?
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Dye overmatched in that at bat. You're right. He really had no chance.
  20. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) i almost lost all respect for hawk right there. "rather have timo up there than jermaine." I would prefer Timo vs. Hammond as opposed to Dye vs. Hoffman.
  21. How was that pitch to Uribe a ball, and the first one to Iguchi a strike?
