  1. QUOTE(rafacosta @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) I would do this deal in a hurry. Chavez is 3 time GG winner, is 27 years old what means he will have better years hitting wise. He is locked up for more 5 years. He has a huge contract, I know! Send PK and his one year great, another year sucks to hell and we can pay Chavez! About BMac? He still a minor leaguer, nobody knows what he will bring to us, he can be a Borchard or a MB. On Crede, nothing to say... :puke As much as Crede's play makes you want to puke (it has the same effect on me) he has actually played at least as well as Chavez has so far this season.
  2. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) dick although I tend to agree that trade won't happen, I do indeed think there will be a trade and before the deadline maybe even before the 4th of july Unless the team collapses, I agree KW is going to want to deal. He can use some more bullpen help and a run producer for sure.
  3. QUOTE(rafacosta @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) IMO, what KW said means nothing. He is trying to get BMac's bid higher than it is right now...he is trying to send a messenge to Beane or whoever that wants to trade for BMac. Now, if Beane asks for BMac and Crede, just for these two, he will get it done, IMHO. Finding pitchers with BMac's ability who will be under team control for the next 6 years doesn't happen everyday. He does not have to try and drive his price up. Rick Hahn mentioned at Soxfest that BMac would bring "a king's ransom". Even if he were willing to trade him for Chavez, Chavez said he doesn't want to play here, meaning if he doesn't have a no trade clause and kill it immediately, he would demand a trade at the end of the season.
  4. So let me get this straight. The "rumor" supposedly came from a caller on a radio show or someone on a message board saying Ken Rosenthal said it was a deal being discussed. Rosenthal was emailed and said he had no knowledge of said rumor. BB said it was BS. Chavez said it was BS, and that he did not want to play in Chicago. KW didn't say it was BS but said he isn't trading the main ingredient of said deal, therefore making it BS, and there still are people here that think this rumor still has validity?
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) What offense...??? There are rumors of an offense, kind of like these Chavez rumors, they're all BS.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) What kind of person is Billy Beane who signed Chavez based on the fact that he said they would be contenders, then traded away virtually every decent player on the team, and ALL of Chavez's closest teammates? Credibility and discussing probable trades are not one in the same. He wants the value for Chavez to stay high, and making him untouchable will make the offers better, got it? Many of the so called experts thought Oakland would be much better than they have been. They thought the additions of Kendall and Ginter would make the offense better, and thought their young pitching was ready to blossom. One of the reasons they have been so bad is Chavez has been worse than Crede. If he wanted to maximize Chavez's value he would say he would be available if the price is right and start a bidding war for his services. I also believe Chavez, if traded, would have a right to demand a trade at the end of the season. I don't know if he has a no-trade clause or not. Beane did surprise last off season by dealing both Hudson and Mulder. They both struggled a lot last season. It was believed he would deal just one.
  7. If the option to replace Konerko is Ross Gload, be careful what you wish for.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) So...you can post that in every thread and it still doesnt mean that its true. A player like Chavez wouldnt come out and say, you know what, I want to be traded and I will go anywhere, someone take me!!!!! But if he did want to come to Chicago, he would go out and say he didn't want to play in Chicago? With the way Beane spoke about it and Chavez spoke about it, if this trade ever happened (and it was never discussed by BB or KW) they would have no credibility at all. And what kind of character guy would Chavez be if he signed a huge contract and wanted to flee the second things didn't go very well in Oakland. If the team who acquired him stunk it up for 40 games would he try to get himself out of there?
  9. They aren't trading BMac. There was no truth to all the talk.
  10. The odds of Kittle's story not being true have got to be 1,000,000 to 1. I don't like Kittle, everytime I hear him talk about baseball he has an attitude like he invented the game, but for him to make up a story with racial tones to it, if not true would start a firestorm, and his life would be ruined. Of course maybe the people who start these firestorms haven't read the book, its not exactly a bestseller.
  11. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Get over what? We can still hope. KW pulled off Wells, Garcia, and Alomar/Everett I. He gets what he needs. He already has a good fielding .220 hitter playing 3rd base.
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) The latest Score report said that Billy Beane said he is not trading Chavez. He also said that Chavez doesn't want to play for Chicago anyways. I'm not sure what to think of this.... He's lying too. He's just trying to get more out of the White Sox for him.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) rofl You seriously think he is telling the truth? No he's lying, but an unsubstantiated rumor which even the writer referred to it as, is gospel. Get over it people. Eric Chavez isn't coming to the White Sox.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) It'd be hard to yank him after 2 pitches if he became a starter. I'm not for making him a starter. I'm just commenting on his current role, and I know they would never yank him after 2 pitches, in fact, I don't think you can if its the same batter and there is no injury.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I consider a guy with a 3.38 ERA solid out of the pen, decent... Does he let a lot of IR score? Sure Does he crap himself in pressure? From time to time. But 3.38 You can tell right away what kind of night its going to be for Cotts. If he has some control he's very effective. If not, they should yank him after 2 pitches.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) In other words...if we traded BMac and someone did get hurt...we're in real deep dog doo. Anyone want to play the last month and a half of the season with a 4 man rotation? That strikes me as a sure fire way to drop out of the playoff hunt real fast. Exactly. I know Chavez is a big name, and I can understand people getting excited over the thought of having him on the White Sox. But good starters are difficult to find especially at the pay rate BMac will command the next few years, and as awful as people think Crede has been this year, Chavez has been worse. History indicates he will probably turn it around this season, but there are no guarantees. Maybe he is the 2005 version of the 2003 Paul Konerko.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Cotts as a starter? You've just got to be kidding me. Our bullpen has had enough difficulties lately, the last thing I want to do is rob it of 1 of its lefthanders. Would we bring Walker back up to take Cotts's spot in the pen? (shuddering). The fact is this...there is no one who could take over McCarthy's position as a backup to the Cubans (or anyone else who gets hurt) in our organization right now. This means that if anyone does get hurt and we've already traded BMac, either our chance at a title ends right there or we have to go and pay an even higher price for a pitcher. What happens if BMac is traded and on August 15th Contreras or El Duque go down with season ending injuries? You're past the trading deadline then without a backup plan. And Oh yeah, you're starting a 3 game set with the Twins. You would hope it was Garland, Buerhle, and Garcia's turn to pitch. Or maybe the Count. He's pitched pretty damn good this season, and go to a 4 man rotation.
  18. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) I gotta admit, I really wanted the Sox to trade for Kendall last year. I was so wrong. Glad they didn't. I think KW actually tried to get him, but couldn't come to an agreement. Pittsburgh is paying some, if not most of his salary.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) After his interview on DP today.. saying that the A's are "horrible".. I'd guess the fans wouldn't mind him leaving one bit. If the White Sox were in the A's position and one of the Sox players went on a radio show and said the Sox were horrible, I would appreciate it. They are horrible.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Kind of like giving up jeremy Reed then siging Freddy to a long term contract? :rolly Its an off day. Gives the board a topic to discuss. Most of Freddy's contract last season was picked up by Seattle. They were able to sign him to an extension because the Sox had a ton of $ coming off the books after last season. They do have Konerko perhaps coming of the books next year, and Frank may be bought out for $3.5 million, Everett may go, but Garland should get a huge raise as will AJ and several others. The Sox are in an entirely different position. Even if Oakland picked up most of Chavez's salary this season, which I really doubt they would, they would have a budget problem in 2006 and beyond if they took on this contract. And Beane would have to also consider how this trade would go down with the Oakland fans. It could be enough to run them out of town.
  21. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Being the 1 run producer on a team diving down to last place, or being 1 of 3-4 serious run producers on the team with the best record in baseball...It isn't tough to see which situation carries a lot more pressure. How much pressure is it playing on a non-contender?
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Wow, sorry Mr. Know-It-All. It's in the Daily Herald for a reason. Are you Kenny Williams' or Billy Beane's right-hand man that you know for a fact that this trade won't happen? :rolly Its in the Herald as a rumor. The guy even wrote most rumors are jokes. You want to know where he got this rumor? From the phony who called MJH and said he heard it on sports radio in the Bay Area, or the guy who said Ken Rosenthal said this deal was being discussed, which was proved to false because someone either on this board or WSI e-mailed Rosenthal himself, and he denied ever saying it and doubted it would ever happen. Or he got i tfrom one of the boards. Think about it. The White Sox giving up their gem of a prospect and picking up a huge and long-term contract at the same time? They don't operate like that.
  23. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Right! Similar to what Pods said he did with Milwaukee last season. He simply tried to do too much. After Pods went back to what he knows how to get on base and didn't try too hard to too other things he turned back into the player he was in his rookie season. If Chavez is in a new atmosphere and realizes he wont need to do as much in this lineup as they expect him to due in Oakland- we will see a BIG increase in his average and his hitting. Why wouldn't he need to do as much in the White Sox line-up? If the job requires little, why trade one of the best starting pitcher prospects in baseball, a guy who plays the same position and has better numbers than him, and pick up the balance of his huge contract? If you trade for Chavez, which the White Sox are not by the way, you are going to expect huge production. Its not as if the weight of the world will be off his shoulders.
  24. THIS TRADE IS NOT HAPPENING. IT IS A RUMOR. NOTHING MORE.
  25. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Our offense sucks and we could use another decent bat that can very likely heat up. Maybe its just a 2 month slump, but Chavez is hitting .218 with 4 homers and 47 k's in just over 200 at bats. I don't see where he's helping the offense. He's also taking less walks than in previous years.
