QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) I'm not going to read the entire thread, but if your depending on the other team to tell you when a ball is fair or foul, you have problems. Exactly.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) To be honest.. I think I initially thought that ball was foul.. anyone else..?? I thought it was fair, but I had a great angle, and I thought Konerko should have had it. Derek Lee would have caught it. Uribe, for all we know might have thought is was foul.
-
Every team in the major leagues tries to deke players, even the Cubs. Outfielders when they don't have a chance to catch a ball will stick their gloves in the air like they are about to make a catch to try and hold the runner to 1 base. When there is a runner on and a groundball goes through the infield, middle infielders will fake trying to turn a DP to get the runner to slide, stopping him from advancing a base. When there is going to be a play at a base, the guy who is going to be making the tag will act like there is no play to get the runner to ease up. Outfielders knowingly trap a ball and act like they caught it. What Uribe did is no different from that. In fact, the crowd noise clearly indicated the ball was fair. Dusty calling it baseball ettiquette is hilarious to me.

If the Cubs are trading and OF and middle reliever for another outfielder and middle reliever AND are giving up 2 prospects you can rest assured they would be giving up Dubois or Hollandsworth, not Patterson.
-
Can anyone confirm that Levine really reported this?
-
If the Cubs trade Patterson, they are going to have to get a CF in return, unless with Walker coming back, they want to play Jerry Hairston Jr. there full-time. That would mean Hollandsworth and Dubois would get very little playing time.
-
If Konerko thinks a teammate did something "ethically" wrong, then he should talk to the teammate about it, not the press. True leaders don't hang teammates, especially ones with limited skills to communicate with the media, out to dry.
-
Players try to deke each other out every game. I don't have a problem with this. Lee should be running until an umpire tells him the ball is foul. Who knows, Uribe may have actually thought the ball is foul. Don't rely on the opposition to help you out.

How do you feel about interleague play?
Dick Allen replied to SpringfieldFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox/Cubs games are pretty fun. I think interleague play would be better if the two leagues adopted the same rules regarding the DH. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) Why does he have to explain himself to "The Professor of Hindsight" Brad Palmer? The question was legit and needed to be asked. Ozzie is not available to answer questions during the game. If Palmer didn't ask it, someone else would have.
-
Dubois homer was so windblown. There was a jetstream to RF. Vizciano has had a rough year, but to blame him for basically a routine flyball is not fair.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) Steal signs. Also, Corey Patterson and his 4 stolen bases on the season could be a good reason. The Cubs had no problem stealing bases yesterday. They just couldn't get on first. Contreras was awesome. My whole point is I really don't think Coleman being on the bench is going to make any difference in the game, and if it does make a difference, its crazy that this guy is a minor league instructor. He's going to be in the clubhouse if he's not on the bench.
-
If Vince Coleman makes that much difference in KW's opinion, and he is KW's good friend, why, when the White Sox have had so many problems baserunning through the years, and are transitioning into a running team, wasn't Coleman hired as a White Sox major league coach? The Cubs stole a couple of bases yesterday. What can Coleman do sitting on the bench that he can't do pregame or sitting in the clubhouse?
-
I was down by the Sox bullpen when Contreras was warming up, and both Cooper and Man Soo were giddy over the stuff Contreras had in the bullpen. It was great that he took it to the mound with him. If Contreras ever realizes how good his stuff is and how to at least keep a runner honest, he is very capable of a Cy Young-type season.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 21, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) He also said Buerhle knew how to pitch "right out of the womb." He didn't sound real concerned about Duque, just want to give him a little time off. They're making this out to be no big deal, but if it is why were they being so secretive about it? The thing that concerns me is they thought nothing serious was wrong with Bere, or Wright, or Barcelo....the list goes on and on. I think the secretiveness of the move speaks volumes. El Duque obviously is fatigued. Last year with what appears to be the same problem he missed the last month of the season plus the playoffs.

If its the tired shoulder they are reporting in the papers, its the same thing that kept him out the last month or so of last season. That's not good.

Brandon McCarthy To Make Major League Debut
Dick Allen replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
According to the Southtown, reports that McCarthy is starting Saturday are erroneous. -

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:32 AM) everett will do fine in right field, i keep getting confused as to who is throwing off the mound today I don't know why Ozzie has to get Everett in these games. Its not like he's tearing the cover off the ball. Maybe Podsednik needs a rest. Dye is finally getting some hits, so it would be a horrible time to sit him. Everett's numbers are earily similar to his rather unimpressive numbers of last season. -
Hermanson has an ERA of 0.00. That's ineffective? The writer of this article needs to find a new profession.

White Sox vs Cubs Game 2 Thread 5-21-05
Dick Allen replied to sox-r-us's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(fathom @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) Tribune is saying the wind will be blowing out to right field. I really hope Everett isn't playing tomorrow. Dye is swinging the bat much better than Everett is right now, and there's no reason to put our defense at such a disadvantage. Wind will be blowing in from RF, even more reason to have Everett sitting next to Harold. -
Brandon McCarthy To Make Major League Debut
Dick Allen replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The wind is supposed to be blowing in today. Brandon's weakness this year has been the longball. I read all of his homeruns allowed were in Charlotte's bandbox. The wind is supposed to be blowing out on Sunday. Of course that would be bad for Contreras, another guy who will give up a long ball. -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 20, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Bruce Levine was the first to report the rumor and Offman reported McCarthy boarding a plane. EDIT: Perhaps I should just congratulate Jason as that seems to be the trend. Levine said he heard rumors but backed away from them. The guys here verified. Offman with his getting on a plane BS is full of just that, BS. He came up with that AFTER it was posted here that BMac was scratched. Offman NEVER comes up with his own stuff. His "sources" are Levine, other media members and the people with sources on these boards. -

On the local Chicago news at 6, nobody had anything on this. It will be interesting to see it mentioned on all of the broadcasts at 10. You guys were their source.
