  1. Its really hard to expect someone with no broadcasting experience or training to walk in and be exceptional behind the microphone. Many broadcast teams have to work several years before they are comfortable with each other. Color commentators jobs are easier when they have an experienced PBP man to set them up with opportunities to analyse. Having DJ do PBP with the little experience he has with that doesn't help the Boy Wonder, or the Pope. I thought they both have done fine. Neither probably will ever be broadcasters. I do think DJ has improved dramatically as an analyst.
  2. Burke has cleared waivers at least twice the last 6 months, maybe 3 times. Chances are he will again, and his choices will be playing in Charlotte, signing a minor league contract with another team, or retiring.
  3. The way DJ and Robin have been talking, you'd think Nomo has Garland's numbers this season. The guy has been brutal.
  4. I'd take Olivo back in a heartbeat. He was crushed when he got traded from here. I don't think he ever got over it.
  5. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) You lose your waiver priority then. The Blue Jays are a good example though I'm not sure if Burke is their type of player. But based on last season's record they probably have a high waiver priority. You typically want to spend that in August where teams still try to work our trades using the waiver wire. The rules are a little different then & waiver priority is a much bigger deal then. If you claim him now you will drop to the end of the priority list. So it would make more sense to work out a new deal with a player you know is going to refuse assignment then to claim him off waivers. What do you mean by waiver priority? I always thought the team with the worse record has priority. I think last year's record is out the window for this year since the season is more than 30 days old. Are you sure you move to the end of the line if you claim a player? I don't think that is true.
  6. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) The rest of the article stated that he will consider offers from other teams. It sounds like he's leaning towards refusing assignment if he clears waivers. If he refuses assignment I believe he gives up his remaining salary & becomes an UFA. I believe he has the right to talk to teams while being on the waiver list so it's possible he can work out a deal for more $ then. Burke probably isn't worth a team giving up it's waiver priority but he's certainly worth signing as a UFA. I thought he played well for the White Sox when given the chance & I wish him the best of luck with a new team (with the exception of the Twinkees). Just curious, why would a team give him more money than he's making now instead of just claiming him and assuming his present contract?
  7. Considering he really has no experience, and didn't have much time to prepare, I thought the Pope did a good job. Obviously, if you put him up against people who do that for a living, he's not that impressive, but I thought for a fill in on very short notice he was fine.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Marte always dangles his arm before throwing a pitch. Or did you mean he was shaking his arm in a different way? When he was warming up in the bullpen, after he threw a pitch he would shake his left arm pretty hard. Either he does that to loosen up, or he has some pain he is trying to shake off. I'm sure if its the latter, the team doesn't think its serious enough to hold him out of the game, so its probably nothing.
  9. I think something may be wrong with Marte. When they showed him warming up in the bullpen, he kept shaking his arm. Hopefully, its nothing but trying to get loose.
  10. The curse of DJ strikes again. DJ mentioned this guy had an average move and White Sox baserunners would have no problems with him.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Anyone else watching the game on CSN+? Is it just my TV, or when they show the linescores on the bottom, can you not see the second team? I had that problem with my old TV, but I got a bigger one with a flat screen, and now there is room to burn with the scores.
  12. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) Nothing but complaints and he gets out of the inning. Hernandez is one gritty SOB. And it didn't look to me like he was losing it. He might not be losing it, but you are dealing with a 40 something pitcher who had to miss his last few starts last season with a "tired" shoulder, and a guy who hasn't made a heck of a lot of starts the past 5 or 6 seasons. You also have a bullpen that probably needs some work right now. Ozzie is going to need El Duque in August and September. It makes no sense burning him out now.
  13. No wonder Konerko isn't hitting. He's using Borchard's bat. There's a big #25 on the bottom of it.
  14. Geddy doesn't seem to be there. Maybe he'll show up tomorrow.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ May 6, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) No. Hawkins makes a ton of $$$, not to mention he is a surly individual. No sense upsetting the chemistry. None of this will happen anyway. I wouldn't either. Shingo will be fine. He's only pitched 7 or 8 innings this year, and people are freaking out over him. I think your point about Hawkins personality is excellent. The other thing is Shingo is so unique, it is such a different look seeing him after Marte or Politte or Hermanson. If they made the other move, the styles would be very similar.
  16. Let me ask this. If you were the GM for the White Sox would you trade Shingo for Hawkins and make Hawkins a set up man and Hermanson the closer?
  17. Will be attending all 6 of the White Sox double sweep.
  18. If I were guessing, I think the Sox are very high on Ozuna, and if anything would acquire Graffinin (that's how much of his name fits on the board by the fan deck) to take the place of Harris.
  19. I always look forward to the Sox trip to Toronto. Mr. Geddy Lee is usually sitting behind home for at least one of the games.
  20. I said before the season Dusty wouldn't last the season, and I'm sticking to it.
  21. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) Horrible and mean thought (not wishing injury on Wood), but the inevitable question with all his problems: who wants in on a Tommy John pool for him? He already had the TJ surgery on his elbow, I think in 1999. This problem is in the shoulder, so it wouldn't be TJ surgery. Although if he pitches with it, it may cause him to alter his poor mechanics even more and cause him to blow out the elbow again. They call it a muscle strain now. I wonder what they will call it a month from now.
  22. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) Clement sucks. Very overrated. Always pitched well enough to lose, was on the wrong side of thirty and was simply awful in the pennant push last year when he got benched I agree with you. He may be 3-0 now, but just wait. This guy wasn't even in the Cubs rotation at the end of the year. He is definitely not going to be worth the money the Red Sox are paying him for the length of his contract.
  23. Does anyone know the lag time between testing positive and actually getting suspended? I was reading something a couple of weeks ago that claimed a few big names were about to go down. It probably was just rumors, but there does seem to be a delay.
  24. White had no intention of going out there, and thank God for that. Garland might have been killed.
