QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Switch that around to Gload in RF, and Everett at DH, and I agree with you. Gload was the last player I saw drop a routine flyball before Dye did last night. I agree about Everett. Someone should burn all his fielding gloves. Either way it would be scary anytime a ball was hit in that direction.
-
He was known as double play Dye in Oakland. For the love of God, why is this guy hitting 5th. How much of this crap does Ozzie have to see to realize he should be batting 7th or 8th or riding pine.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Dye has to play better than this...he's been better than this his whole career, and he should be healthy. He didn't play this bad last year even when he was hurt. He wasn't $5 million good last year. In 2003 he was terrible and very mediocre the year or 2 before that. He is going to hit better than he has, but he is not the 30hr 120rbi player many thought the Sox were getting.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Holy s***, what is with these umps? Not even close, clearly safe. He beat the relay by 1/2 step easily. Gettin' awful tired of these bad calls. Do you think it may be a result of Ozzie's dressdown of Hunter Wendelstedt last season? If it is, these umpires need to be fined and suspended.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) He may have with the Rockies. That's why I brought it up. Plus, he's a veteran. Oh please. I saw enough of Norton at 3b with the White Sox. There has to be a better option at Charlotte.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) Dye caught the ball!!!!!!!!!!!! Another Festivus miracle

I agree. The most worrisome thing would be if Harris had to play SS. Ozuna and Uribe both look like they could be out a few days.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) Timo is out of options and has a guaranteed $1 million contract. He would have to be cut and Uncle Jerry would have to pay off the rest of his contract. Ain't gonna happen. JR gave Eddie Robinson $10 million+ to scram from the Bulls. If KW tells him Timo needs to be gone-he gone. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) LOL. Harris is still better than Ozuna, and I don't give two s***s what Kenny Williams thinks -- which is really what you're basing your whole argument on. Timber... The problem is Harris can't play SS or 3B. Ozuna can, and usually pretty well. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Yeah, there were 3 big plays that really cost the Sox on offense tonight: - Ozuna's DP - Kotsay gunning out "Piano-back" Iguchi at home - Ginter's diving play on Podsednik's grounder Iguchi is really banged up. He hurt his leg last night. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) ouch, that's not very good. Especially when you figure that Everrett turns around, Dye could become the Podz-platoon when lefties pitch with Frank back. I still hate the idea of quasi-platooning your leadoff hitter though. Do you really think Frank is coming back? -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) Name something to like about Jermaine Dye besides taking less money. Waiting. He's very nice, and has fine penmanship. -
QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) That's hilarious, and loser is the right word for him. He is truly a goofball, and Baker can't control him. Is there anyone Baker can control?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Ummm, right now Prior is their ace, Zambrano is their #2, and Wood is their #3. And Neifi Perez is hitting like Babe Ruth lately. My prediction: they will keep starting Neifi at SS and not even make a trade for another SS. Busty loves Neifi and the Flubs' payroll is maxed out because of Hendry's horrible offseason. The Tribune could give them more money to spend but why bother? Flubs fans will keep going to the games even if they suck. Afterall, they ARE the "Lovable Loser." Prior is their ace, Zambrano their second best pitcher. But there is no way Dusty would put Zambrano ahead of Wood. Remember, even after last year when Zambrano was clearly their best pitcher, Wood was slated to start the opener until he had pain in the shoulder. Neifi is going to have a wicked slump soon. And I agree, they aren't going to spend much money, especially after the Tribune printed the charge the company took for the Sammy Sosa trade, for all the shareholders to see.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) As bad as Zambrainless is pitching tonight, there's no way the Flubs would trade him for Uribe. Uribe is good but he's no where near the value of Zambrano. Zambrano would have to eat a baby for the Flubs to make that trade. Yeah, I thought it was crazy. The only thing that made it plausable to me was maybe the Cubs are worried about Zambrano's long-term effectiveness. He's doesn't appear to be much of a physical fitness buff. He definitely is a head case. They are going to have to pay him a lot of money pretty soon. They need a SS. There are a lot of people of the opinion that Uribe is currently Miquel Tejada lite, with a possibility of becoming more than that. The Cubs situation is perfect for Zambrano. With Prior and Wood there, he will never be more than a #3 starter. I really question if he has the mental make up to be an ace. I am sure the deal hasn't been discussed, it sounded like it was just radio fun.

My dad was listening to the score the other day and said Hawk was on. Somehow Hawk was talking to George Offman and Hawk asked if the Cubs would take Uribe for Zambrano. Offman said the Cubs would do that deal in a minute.
-
This team is playing a lot like the 1990 team. I don't know if there are many people around here that remember that season. Hawk always refers to it as his favorite season. They won games like they are winning now. Not many hits, but timely ones. They also won a few games on wild pitches. Grebeck and Guillen went back to back off Nolan Ryan. It was a fun time. If you look at the stats that year, you would have thought they were a team that shouldn't contend. Fisk led them with 18 homers. Calderon lead the team with 74 rbi. There will be bumps in the road, there always is, but there is no reason the winning shouldn't continue no matter what Jeff Brantley has to say.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) You are under the mistaken impression that I care if I impress you. I'm not real worried about impressing someone that doesn't know the difference between "balling" and "bawling". Spelling is not one of my strong suits.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Just exactly what name did I call you? I never said you called me a name. You referred to Magglio as a"whiny little b**** who can't shut the f*** up." That was the name calling I was referring to. Using phrases like that doesn't do anything for me.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Because he doesn't share your opinion and thinks Ozzie's fire is a good thing..?? Good grief.. I think Ozzie should keep his trap shut but I'm not going to go s***ting on others because I don't agree with them. No, for his reply giving me the finger, plus using the same vulgar language his idol Ozzie uses. I answered all his questions in his reply to me, but then he had to go name calling, losing all his credibility with me.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Ok ... My credibility is shot because you say so. :rolly One other thing ..... :fyou You're a moderator and that's how you reply? Grow up.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Olivo probably wasn't told that the pitchers didn't want to throw to him, but I'd bet he was talked to about his game calling on numerous occasions. As for him "balling" when traded, he didn't want to be traded. What's that got to do with this issue? Nothing, that's what. As for Lee, if Ozzie would have named him would that have been better in your esteemed opinion. And Magglio, he's brought this s*** upon himself. He's a whiny little b**** that can't shut the f*** up and Ozzie let him have it. Good for Ozzie I say. Why can't Ozzie call the game from the dugout? A lot of teams have the pitches called by someone in the dugout. The fact that he was balling shows he didn't want to leave even though he apparently wasn't wanted, at least by the pitching staff. If pitchers didn't want to throw to him, and he was told this, he wouldn't have been upset being told he was going someplace else. Ozzie has to bring this up a year after the guy is dealt. Why? It would have been better if Ozzie mentioned Lee by name, because he is supposed to be a straight shooter, and he has no problem mentioning everyone else by name. You lost all credibility with the end of your reply.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) People have a tendency to assume something didn't happen if it was never reported in the press. I'd bet Ozzie and Coop talk to Olivo about his game calling skills, or lack thereof, many times. I know KW and Ozzie talked to Lee about what they expected from him, as that was reported in the press shortly after the Hunter/Burke game. The fact that Olivo balled like a little kid and was in total shock when he was traded would indicate to me Ozzie hadn't told him about pitchers not wanting to throw to him. If I or anyone was a catcher who pitchers didn't want to throw to, I would not be shocked if I was traded, nor would I be sad about it. Concerning Lee, KW had mentioned many times how they stroked Carlos, telling him he was a great fielder etc. Ozzie popping off at Soxfest about Lee going into second base, but of course, not mentioning him by name was a cheap shot. His vulgar language and personal threats to Magglio is just wrong, especially to an organization trying to promote a family type atmosphere. That kind of talk is going to attract the kind of scum that hop on the field and try to bust up umpires.

QUOTE(ISF @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I giggled when he said this was the same stuff Bowa got canned over. Bowa is not a player's manager. Guillen hangs with the players and is honest with them, they aren't worried about what Guillen will say behind their back, they're too busy hearing it to their face. Donovan forgot to address the possibility that maybe Ordonez is just a whiny who has blamed everyone but the man in the mirror for his not re-signing with the Sox. He had 14 million reasons to do so and decided to say no. Ozzie is not going to take that crap from anyone, and I don't blame him. Give him hell I say. Ozzie is straight with the players? Did he tell Lee that he would be traded because he didn't go into 2nd hard, like he told the audience at Soxfest? Did he tell Olivo that the pitchers didn't like throwing to him like he has told the press time and time again? Did he tell Frank he had a horrible attitude to his face or did he just announce it to the press. He's straight alright. Just as soon as they hit the road. It is a shame that the 15-4 record isn't getting half the play in the press as Ozzie's mouth. This might work for a while, but believe me, these players that think its funny now, won't think its too funny if it is the end of August and they still have the best record and all the stories are about the stupid things that come out of the manager's mouth. Its time JR and KW to sit this guy down and tell him they want to run a classy not crassy organization. If these quotes keep up, it will in the long run, be very detrimental to the organization.
