  1. This could be the White Sox lucky year. Wright seemed to be going to the White Sox this past winter until Steinbrenner threw a wad of cash his way. He has been getting lit up this season, and left today's game with a sore shoulder after giving up 3 long ones. His ERA actually went down today, and is a tad over 9.00.
  2. Another good question to ask would be: Would your answer be the same if the Sox were 4-13 instead of 13-4?
  3. While I do like fire in a manager, there's another thing called class. If you want to say Magglio deserved it, fine. But Guillen is going over the line. I don't care if he said Buerhle is been much better than Wood and Prior. That's fine, they have never played for the Sox. His hatchet job on Frank again was total BS. Talk about getting over something, how many times do we have to hear pitchers didn't like throwing to Olivo. Ozzie popping off about that again a year after the guy was traded, unprovoked, was total BS. Everybody knew he was talking about Lee when he made the comment about a guy going into 2B like his wife was turning the DP. He also said that is why the player isn't here right now. The fact is the media is now going to try and bait Ozzie into another diatribe. There are a lot of things Ozzie has said and done that the media has actually turned its collective head on. A major embarrassment for the organization is just waiting to happen. My advice to him would be at press conferences to talk about the game, and always protect your players. Try to keep your mouth shut about other things and remember he is representing the White Sox organization every time he's in front of a microphone.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Correction.. they were not illegal in baseball at the time. Were they legal or just not tested for? I really don't know the answer. I always assumed steriod use without a prescription was illegal. I am also assuming if Guillen knew anything about Ordonez and steriod usage he would have picked that knowledge up last season when they definitely were banned.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) Why..? They were legal at the time. Steriods are legal?
  6. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Bernstein on the Score this morning drew the same inference - that Ozzie knows that Maggs used roids, and could "hurt" Maggs that way. Bernstein also recalled a conversation from their opening day remote. He said he told KW "Did you know that edema can cause your forearms to shrink?" jokingly, and KW just ignored the opening. FWIW. I doubt that he is referring to steriods. If Guillen comes out and says he knew Maggs used roids, and he's a member of management, he is going to have a lot of explaining to do in the commissioner's office.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) In the Southtown article Guillen makes it clear that Maggs played hard for him. KW thanked Maggs for the years that he played here and the numbers he put up at Soxfest. Ozzie went out of his way to compliment Maggs before this series started. Guillen has tried to help Magglio Ordonez at every stage of his career, even before Maggs was on the 40 man roster. Only one person won't let this go, and keeps bringing it up after everyone has gone quiet about it. And it hasn't been just once, it has been repeatedly. And since Ozzie's character got attacked in this one, I don't blame him at all for snapping. Ozzie has probably done more for Magglio's career than any other individual, and this is how Maggs repays him. Good for Oz. Ozzie has done s*** for Magglio's career. Ozzie would love to take full credit for it, but it was Magglio who earned his way to the major leagues, not Ozzie popping off to Schueler about him. Ordonez was hitting .329 when he was called up in 1997. I think Maggs played 21 games in 1997 with Guillen as a teammate. Their paths did not cross again until 2004 long after Ordonez established himself as one of the better players in the game.
  8. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) My take is that Ozzie pulled some strings for him, we could've lost him Rule V long ago and now Maggs is pissing in his Cheerios. This sounds very personal and you know what, I like Ozzie showing he isn't just this jolly rube but a fiery SOB. Maybe AJ is wearing off on some people. Maggs was exposed to the rule 5 and went unclaimed. Ozzie didn't pull any strings for Maggs, Schueler was in charge. Maggs performance level increased, I believe he was batting Jeff Abbott for a minor league hitting crown. It was his increased production that earned him a trip to the major leagues.
  9. Ozzie can dish it out, but can't take it. He's criticized Olivo who hasn't said anything in response. He criticized Lee who hasn't said anything in response. He criticized Frank and Frank's not supposed to say anything. Maggs said he doesn't like Ozzie and Ozzie goes off on an expletive-laiden rant, basically saying he can mess with Magglio in many different ways. Not every Venezuelan needs Ozzie's friendship to survive. Maggs needs to move on, no doubt about it, but Ozzie's yapping won't do anything to help make that happen.
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) look at my avatar That's why I said what he really thinks.
  11. Just wait until you hear what Frank Thomas really things about Ozzie when he's playing on another team next year.
  12. At Blackhawk games-if you try to come back to your seat while the game is going on, they do not let you back until there is a stoppage in play. I have encountered this problem, and usually its not too bad. But if you get the person who is intent on dropping $200 on concessions it will make for a pretty miserable evening if you are trying to watch the game. My advice is to sit in the Club level if you can. Not as many people, and even fewer who are trying to make the Guiness Book of World Records for beer consumption. With the smoking, get an usher or security, and they will put a quick stop to it.
  13. You can't hide a knee injury. Magglio obviously has something wrong with him on the inside. Hopefully its not serious. If you really believe he can cover up pain in his knee with a claim of a hernia, I have some authentic 2003 White Sox World Series rings to sell you.
  14. Everett dogging it down the line may cost the Sox a run or 2.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:51 AM) How about a starting lineup of Pargo, Pike, Griffin, Reiner, and that new guy we signed. Thats a winner. I was walking into my building the other day, and Reiner was with friends walking out. That dude is huge.
  16. QUOTE(shakes @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) I'm pretty sure Boston is north of Chicago. Dusty blamed Nomar's struggles on his allergies. This gets better by the minute. Didn't the Cubs open the season in Arizona? Kruk also said Randy Johnson would win 30 games. Considering he is 42 and his career high for starts in a season is 35, and he has 1 win in his first 4 starts, its already almost impossible. He is a dope, although he has been the one who gives the White Sox a little love the last couple of years.
  17. Isn't the Pepsi deal for upper deck tickets only? I was at the game last night, and at the start there looked to be about 5000 in the stands. It got reasonably full, and the upper deck had a higher proportion than usual. Its still April. Even the Cubs have tickets available this time of year. Wait until school is out, and the weather can be count on. If the team is doing as well as it is now, it will be sold out.
  18. If Ozzie was asked to ride the pine back in his playing days how would he have accepted it? Hasn't Ozzie said one of the main reasons the Sox let him go was his support of Magglio, how he thought Magglio should be given a better chance? When Ozzie was playing shouldn't he have let the "boss" make the decisions and not say anything about it, like he expects everyone to do about his decisions and the stupid crap that comes out of his mouth. They are trying to put a spin on what Ozzie said, and I'm pretty sure Ozzie has been spoken to. People get misquoted, and quotes are taken out of context, but when every media outlet is reporting the same damn thing, the language barrier excuse is weak. I have no doubt its been ironed out, and Frank has been apologized to and assured nothing this stupid will ever happen again.
  19. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Cf was not a good scene for Carl. Rf's not great either, but at least you get his bat in there. But lf, I don't mind Carl in left. That's just about his speed. He had 1 ball hit to him this season in LF and look what happened. He is one of the better DHs in baseball. His defense is below horrible.
  20. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) baker gets away with saying even dumber s*** yet he's considered a "player's coach." I would not think it would be much of a problem, especially if current players spread the word that they are happy with him. Damn, I hope they are... Baker says some wacky stuff, but he always has his players' backs, including Sosa. He didn't give Sosa crap until Sammy was gone. One more thing, if Frank and/or others on the team had a bad attitude last season, that's on Ozzie. He can pop off all he wants to but part of his job is to get the team to play at its highest level. If the team's attitude is bad, there's a good chance so is it's manager.
  21. If you want to run a professional, first-class operation, then your people from the top down to the bottom have to act it. Whether or not this is just some sort of inside joke, or motivational tool, or just popping off, it doesn't look good to players around baseball. What if next off-season the White Sox want to sign a free agent but he doesn't want to come here for fear of being blasted in the press for no reason at all. Keep this sort of stuff in-house. Ozzie being Ozzie may be cute for a while then it just gets silly.
  22. Previously, Ozzie said Frank's attitude last year was great. Now all of a sudden it is horrible. If the team attitude was bad last year, why didn't the great Ozzie fix it? Ozzieball, its an attitude, obviously was a BS slogan. Ozzie had no business discussing this in public. He went too far. Frank is a hall of famer, when he was asked what he thought the situation would be when he got back he obviously figures he's going to get the majority of time, just like everyone here did. That's not being selfish, and not a team player. Please. Frank has done and said some questionable things during his career, but this attack is unprovoked. Hopefully Ozzie will get called into the principal's office today, and things can be worked out before there is any damage.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) Actually I just remembered a tidbit from Soxfest that might shine a little light on this. Saturday nite at the fest a few of us hung out with Ozzie Jr for a while, and listened to some of the stories he was telling about the teams his dad played on back in the day. One of the stories he told us was how Frank was a much better player when mad. He said many of the players used to say stuff to him before games just to get him pissed of and focused into the game. I guess they used to always bring when someone like Bonds or Griffey would have a big game, and then ask Frank what was wrong with him. This might be more of the same from the Oz. This sounds like just getting him ready to go. Maybe it is. But Torborg or LaMont or Bevington never tried to piss Frank off through the press. Its a BS move by Ozzie, one that may set this team back. If it takes the team's focus off the task at hand, because you know they will all be asked over and over about it now, Ozzie should be canned. Now Frank's attitude had something to do with the team's performance. Funny how they were blaming the poor performance on his absence before.
