Ozzie can't keep his mouth shut again. This is a conversation that should be between Frank and Ozzie. If Frank has been a big part of a bad attitude for the years Ozzie mentioned, then Ozzie should also mention the he too has been a part of that bad attitude. If Frank's attitude is so bad, why hasn't Ozzie done anything about it yet? I believe what we are seeing are the same slam tactics the Cubs used with Sosa, and to a lesser extent , the Sox used with Magglio, to lessen the dissapointment when the Sox let Frank walk at the end of the season.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) Everett did not K... the ump K'd him... it was a bad call clearly. I think this loss though should really be pinned on Jermaine Dye if your going to try and blame someone. Not only is he not hitting anything at all but than he makes that stupid error... He needs to get his head out of his ass and start playing like a major leaguer. I don't know what the replay showed. I was sitting in row 1 of section 145, and if I was an impartial umpire, I'd have run Everett up. It looked like he swung. I told my friend right after the pitch that I hope they don't appeal. -

I am no fan of Harris, but he absolutely had to get to 2nd base. He got thrown out. It happens. I don't know how you can blame the game on him. Ozuna still would have needed to get a hit for him to score. If Uribe would have grounded into a DP instead of lifting a flyball to CF people would have been complaining that Harris should have tried to steal. -

Dye's error changed the dynamic of that big inning. Who knows what happens if he plays it cleanly. Ichiro would have been pitched to and he might have put another one in the seats, or maybe they get him out. Garcia wasn't sharp today, but battled. Everett hit a big HR, but Ks with guys at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Then Konerko grounds out. This smallball or smartball as they now call it, fancies itself on scoring in that situation. The offense continues to struggle, but they still have taken 2 out of 3 four times. If the Sox win 2 out of 3 all season, they'll win the World Series. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) I don't think you can blame Willie too much. Stealing against the battery of a left-handed pitcher and a catcher with a nice arm isn't ever guaranteed. What Willie should have done is tag up on the Uribe flyball to CF. Reed was not in position to get off a strong throw. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) Honest to god can Ozzie put a lid on this kind of junk. Miggy wasn't a free agent leaving but a guy we got rid of. Why does this garbage continue? I agree. It serves no purpose.

I saw it a few times and my impression was the guy didn't intentionally hit Sheffield but Sheffield did get hit and since he was concentrating on the ball really couldn't be aware that it wasn't intentional. I think security did a good job and Sheffield was able to control his emotions enough where nothing bad really happened.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) No one said that. What I am saying Carl HAS to play the OF. To spell all 3. THERE IS NO REASON WHY TIMO SHOULD GET MORE ABs THAN CARL. Absolutely no reason. And by saying Carl shouldn't play the OF, that's what you are doing. You are saying you favor Timo in the OF over Carl which is absurd. Did you see Everett play CF for the Sox in 2003? Did you see him misplay a few balls in the 3 game series the Sox had against him and the Expos last season? The first ball hit to him this season cost the Sox 2 runs. He is a brutal defensive outfielder. Timo is far superior defensively. The ball seems to find guys who are that bad defensively. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) If one of them is not hitting why not? If they are hitting awful it would be time for a change. My point is when Frank gets back, and if he's 100%, Everett is at best a 4th outfielder who is a disaster defensively, maybe a platoon DH and a pinch hitter. -

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) Incorrect. You wouldn't keep a hot hitter on the bench just to get MAYBE 4 ABs a week. You play him. You take the downgrade in defense for the improvement in offense. Especially on a team who's offense will have to scratch and claw to score runs. So you're gonna bench Podsednik, Rowand or Dye? I don't think so. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) That's the thing. Lots of Ozzie b****ing now, none before the game. Just a bad break, really, that's all you can say about it. Fathom pointed out Everett should not be in the field way before this game started. He has every right to second guess Ozzie's decision. -

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Why the hell are you getting mad at Ozzie? Where do you expect Carl to play when Frank comes back. He sure as hell isn't going to be DHing a lot. Carl needed to get work in in the OF. Oh well, s*** happens. In no way is this Ozzies fault, period. Fathom is correct. If Everett is going to be in the outfield a lot the Sox are not going to win. He is a DH. When and if Frank comes back, Everett is either a real expensive pinch hitter, platoons with Frank or is trade bait. He also appears to be gaining back some of the weight that he lost. -

QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Lets hope he doesn't have to go on the DL, he is the best hitter we have right now. From the looks of it, it doesn't look like he'll be swinging the bat any time soon. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) How many outs does El Duque need to get? Everett's was an easy fly ball. Uribe blew a double play. He does not need to settle down, the defense needs to apologize and beg him for forgiveness. SB That would never have been a DP. One thing was the bad hop it took. Another was the radical shift they had on made it impossible for Harris to get to the bag in time. It also was debatable whether or not Uribe would have gotten the batter if he fielded it cleanly. Hawk thinks it will be changed to a hit. -

It definitely is Everett's shoulder that was injured. He grabbed it right away and Herm was rubbing in. Then Carl started trying to stretch it and was in too much pain to continue. One thing this play shows is that Carl's fielding glove should be thrown in the garbage. He is strictly a DH now. -

In high school I was playing CF and a ball was hit deep. They had those wooden snow fences around the field. There were no warning track and I knew I was getting close so I jumped/dove and the ball glanced off my glove but stayed in the park. Unfortunately for me, I went flying over the fence and knocked the wind out of myself. One of my closest friends was playing LF and he picked up the ball and could barely throw it back to the infield he was laughing so hard. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Why? He would catch the ball, have no chance whatsoever at throwing someone out at 2nd (I wouldn't even expect him to throw), but he might still get someone trying to steal 3rd. He came up as a catcher, it doesn't ALL go away. Although Konerko started out a catcher, I doubt he is the White Sox emergency catcher. Guys who don't know what they're doing can easily get hurt back there, and I doubt the White Sox would want to risk one of their best offensive players for this. I have never understood the philosophy about saving the back up catcher, but a lot of managers use it. I agree with the earlier post that the odds of Widger getting hurt enough to leave the game is very small.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Contreras has a 3.55 ERA after two starts. That ain't bad. Considering at least 1 run and maybe 2, which were both earned runs tonight, shouldn't have scored due to shoddy defense, I think its excellent.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Pierzynski's double was huge. But on a serious note -- no excuse for Harris not to be in the game at that point. A lot of us were calling for that right after AJ hit the double, and it almost cost us big time. Ozzie f***ed up there, JMHO... Its a good point, but I'm sure Ozzie's thinking is he doesn't want to use Widger unless AJ gets hurt, because if he goes down, then a non catcher will have to catch. I wish he used the same philosophy with the bullpen the first loss of the season. The Sox would be 7-1 right now.
