  1. It has to be Borchard, unless something else is going down. I bet Borchard was told he was going back to Charlotte once Magglio was cleared to play defense.
  2. Mcgriff's bat speed and results this season eliminated any McGriff signing.
  3. Burn Carl's mitts right now. He is brutal in the OF at this stage. Hopefully he can get as hot as he was with Texas at the beginning of last season. Has anyone heard of the cash coming back to the Sox? I would think it would be a pretty significant amount. I'm sure KW is still going to be working the phones. I think Rowand is going to be used as bait for Beltran.
  4. They brought him back after that incident, and he shut Cleveland down. KW has a fascination with Carl. Rauch could have been used to pick up something better. Hopefully Carl's lack of production this season can be blamed entirely on injuries and he is and will remain healthy for the rest of the year. I'm skeptical.
  5. Carl's 2 hr are going to be a big boost to the White Sox line-up.
  6. At this stage of his career he is a downgrade from Ross Gload. No way the Sox sign him.
  7. Valentin's errors never hurt the Sox.
  8. Your points are well taken. My problem is Everett has shown nothing at the plate this season. I'm sure a lot has to do with injuries, and he is supposedly healthy now. He is a guy who is suseptible to injury, and may go down again. He only has 2 homers in 120 or so at bats, is only hitting .250. I really think its a longshot that he is able to put up big numbers. In fact, Robbie Alomar's numbers are more impressive than Carl's this year, and he is cheaper. I wouldn't want him. I am with you in the fact that the Sox really need a left handed hitter. How about Palmiero?
  9. I can't understand this fascination with Everett. He was decent here last year. Prorate his numbers from last year and it isn't spectacular. He can't play defense at all. Did you see him try to play LF against the Sox? He would be signed next year. Frank will no doubt be back next year. Where do you put Everett? I agree with the just say no faction.
  10. Too bad he didn't sit in the dugout with a immobilizer on his foot to act as a decoy in a game the Sox won. Oh, and few hours after KW was on radio saying he would be out a few days.
  11. Now they are saying its the Messiah's elbow.
  12. I'm no fan of anything Cubs, but they have to be in shock. Everyone is getting hurt. Prior has had pain in the achilles since last season. It took him 3 months to pitch in 5 or 6 games, you have to think he is probably done this season. Like I posted earlier, you could tell it was bothering him when he pitched against the Sox. Surgery could wipe out a bunch of next season as well.
  13. The prerequisite to acquiring Randy Johnson is you must pick up his entire contract. Boston wanted the Cubs to pick up Nomar's contract, which isn't as large as Johnson's, and the Cubs couldn't swing it. Also, Johnson might not like the Cub's chances without Prior. A positive note though, if the Cubs did get Johnson, the biggest White Sox fan's nightmare of Magglio signing with the Cubs, wouldn't happen.
  14. More importantly, KC2 Min0 bot2
  15. Prior left the game in the 2nd inning, looks like he reagravated the achilles. I am not surprised. He seemed to be walking around very gingerly a couple of weeks ago at USCF
  16. Barry Bonds got drafted right after the Sox took Kurt Brown. What could have been.
  17. You're right. They'd love to have Sweeney. Not as a centerpiece, but to sweeten the deal. The Sox still would be required to give them 2 or 3 guys that could help them almost immediately. The other question is Will JR be willing to take on that contract?
  18. Arizona is NOT interested in prospects that are 2 or 3 years away. They want guys who will help them win next season. That's the main reason the Boston/Arizona/Cubs 3 way trade fell through. The Cubs best prospects are a 2-3 years away from contributing on the major league level.
  19. Never count out the Yankees, and the Dodgers may do something, and Texas.
  20. Anaheim's owner stated yesterday that they would not make an offer. They didn't want to give up the prospects necessary, and pay Johnson's salary.
  21. Someone on a Boston site who lives in Chicago was listening to Marriotti today, and said Levineline was on . Bruce said Johnson would not go to Boston, for 2 reasons. Schilling, and Fenway is not kind to LHP.
  22. While they claimed its all been patched up, don't think for a minute Colangelo wouldn't want to stick it to Steinbrenner over David Wells. If the offers are even the Yankees are going to be the last choice.
  23. What if the Sox really did get R.Johnson? How long would it take for the "Steinbrenner targets KW to be Yankees GM" stories to surface?
  24. The Cubs do have great prospects, but they are at lower levels, and won't be able to contribute much for a couple of years. Arizona is looking for players that can help them win next year.
  25. With the Angels taking a pass, the White Sox would seem to have as good a chance as any team to land Johnson. The 2 big questions are: Would Johnson agree to come here? and is JR willing to pick up the contract? I would think that if the Sox did get him, they could trade him in the off season if things didn't pan out. If the Sox won the World Series the payroll would skyrocket and JR would gleefully pay it. If the team fizzled, then they could trade him to the Yankees, and get back a couple of prospects, and maybe a guy like Contreras.
