An article I read said Stewart's group was planning on building a privately funded ballpark in Nashville. -

I love the we don't comment on rumors and speculation when they are the ones who leaked the info. They take us all for fools. The fact that he is "negotiating" strickly with Stewart's group shows you he isn't serious. It's a political play.Call the bluff. -

Considering JR doesn't like dealing with the press, isn't this a suspicious leak? And to Dave Stewart, the guy JR was supposedly putting on a pedestal to the mayor of Nashville less than a year ago. JR said he would never move the team, but if he died, his son would owe his invertors. IMO, just another PR stunt that will blow up in JR's face. He just looks like a bigger ass now. -

Dave Stewart is the guy leading the charge on an expansion team in Nashville. To me, this is a plant to try to force public opinion and politicians. Call his bluff. -
I'm guessing part of the Pedro hire was the price tag. Most of the guys on the list, JR is going to have to pay a little more for.
-
Of course. He will run this desire for a new stadium like he runs his teams. Like it’s still the 80s. But things are a lot different. They don’t “need” a new stadium. Now people know this isn’t a big money maker for the city or state, no matter how they spin it. If it was, they would build it themselves and pocket all the cash. And his sweetheart lease he isn’t getting again. I would do his lease the opposite way. The more they draw, the more they win, the less they pay.

I think JR is SOL as long as JB is governor. He can probably be governor as long as he wants, but seems to have higher aspirations, caving to an 88 year old billionaire and giving his heirs free money when they sell, would probably kill any of those thoughts.

Do you go antiquing?

I mentioned many years ago there were blueprints made concerning developing some of the parking lots with bars and restaurants. JR wanted nothing to do with it. He eventually partially relented and we got the ChiSox Bar and Grill where he gets all the money and the gift shop. He doesn’t want anything around there unless he has access to the cash register.
-
That's the other thing. He's playing Dejong and Lopez and Pham....and letting the young guys rot. He wasn't playing for 110 losses. That was one of the many BS parts of what he and JR have to say.
-
That is what he told us. Being better than a 101 loss team isn't a high bar. Getz fell over 20 games short. That's a lot. That's the difference between a 100 win team, and a below .500 team. Getz himself mentioned the AL Central as not being a particularly strong division.
-
The problem is, Getz took over a 101 loss team that JR told us would be better. Granted he said he didn't know how much better, but it was 20 games worse, and set a record for losses. It is absolutely disgusting. There are plenty of organizations, the ones where winning and not kissing the ring of the owner takes precedence, where, yes Getz wouldn't have been hired in the first place, but since he was, he would be gone. It shouldn't take long to find out if someone is in over their head. The Bears didn't need 5 years to know Trestman and Emery were junk, and they aren't exactly known as a team where winning is the only focus. If you suck, you suck. Getz sucks. To me, not recognizing it is the same as keeping RH and KW around so long. He has shown you what he is. Unfortunately, that is a hack. He did something no other GM has ever been bad enough to accomplish, and say what you want, he wasn't trying to lose that many games.

The Case to Eliminate Two Strike Foul Balls
Dick Allen replied to Texsox's topic in The Diamond Club
It's effective, but it makes for shorter careers. I like the idea of making starters go 5 innings or 100 pitches or if they are getting battered, you could say they have to allow at least 5 run. If they came out before that, they would have to go on the IL, It's a brilliant idea that makes way too much sense so it will never happen. Eventually something has to be done about the offense. -

I agree. If you want to kill the sport, this is a move to make. I don't think adding to the roster that much is feasible. The rich teams would only get better. If the goal is to keep pitchers healthy, get out of the max effort every pitch era. -
Probably true, but still iffy. Burke's ERA was 3 runs lower in MLB than AAA. That should regress. Thorpe, who even knows if he will be healthy. Martin was not good his last few starts. Could just be fatigue, could be a better scouting report. Cannon was good. But I certainly don't think anyone has him as an ace or a real top 2 starter, especially in 2025. I just hope they are all healthy so they can at least get an accurate reading on each, as obviously none of them are their top prospects.
-
I think it is. Fedde is already gone. Crochet is next. Some guys looked decent, but I wouldn't bet on anyone yet.
-
The fact they they let the team get historically bad when they should have been in a middle of a promised contention window, isn’t going to help. It will delay any full on comeback IMO. They have even turned off many who live for White Sox baseball. I still watch, but not fully engaged like I have been for most of my life, and they probably have lost some forever, and won’t get some who would have been fans if things were better, but moved on to something else. It will be interesting to see how people react if this current group actually builds a team that contends. There is more mistrust than ever, so I don’t think the seats would be filled regularly until the playoffs.

41-121 is a tell tale sign the GM is bad.
-
If he needs players help evaluating his own manager, God help us all.
-
I don’t think the Sox have the right mix of players to be involved choosing a manager. I do think the team needs to be somewhat successful, and have several players who have been around winning enough to know the difference. Benintendi, may have some insight, but the others ?
-
Right and bitching about the return after getting nothing would have been just fine for you, and I am not saying you specifically because I don’t know if you were calling for his release, but there were more than a few who were, is disingenuous. Nothing is exactly what the White Sox got for him.
-
I did mention many, not everyone. Many would be correct.✅
-
It is disingenuous for many here to complain about the return for Kopech. There were a ton of posts calling for his release. A team with a competent analytics department saw him as free money.
