  1. He looks a little too nice. Maybe grow some chin hair about 4 inches off his jaw and add a few neck tats.
  2. As dumb as they are, I don't think they are that stupid. I think one of the reasons for the Opening Day assignment is the off day that follows to get the bullpen reset. Unless he throws a couple of 9 pitch innings, I doubt he makes it into the 4th.
  3. I think he's pretty good when healthy. It is what it is. I'm more pissed off the Sox are in a position to have him be the OD starter than he actually being the OD starter. On the bright side, he being the OD starter is better than Gavin Sheets being the OD RF, which may have only been stopped by the Tigers starting a lefty.
  4. He started 6 games as a freshman at Tennessee, 6 games as a sophomore, and 1 as a junior going 3.1 innings, so there really is no history of being a starting pitcher.
  5. I get all that but you send him to Charlotte to work as a starter, you may never see him again. I know Ray Ray thinks injuries are random, but this guy was hurt before he was drafted, and has been hurt every year he's been in the organization. Now "stretching him out" and throwing more pitches is the supposed answer from the same people who would call for a managers head if he let someone throw 130 pitches in a game. Makes no sense. He's going to get hurt, probably pretty soon. As long as they realize he's a reliever starting and don't try to do too much with him at least at the beginning, fine, whatever. But really, a closer pitching 55 innings a year is what he should be.
  6. There are plenty of people who think he will be healthier as a starter. That's insane
  7. He’s been compared a lot to Sale, and his career has gone like many figured Sales career would have gone, but Chris somehow managed to stay relatively healthy for many seasons. Then it started happening. He gets hurt every year. Crochet is doing that as a guy in his early to mid 20s.
  8. You throw more pitches as a starter, He was hurt pre Covid when the Sox drafted him. He was hurt in the 2020 division series. He spent time on the IL in 2021, he missed 2022; and spent more time on the IL after he came back last year. I wish the guy well, but anyone who thinks his injuries are behind him is stoned.
  9. Might as well get as many "starts" as you can before he clutches his elbow or shoulder. They used to call these guys openers. Maybe they think the bullpen gets a day off on Friday, so the short start won't matter as much.
  10. I liked Fields. the only concern I have with Williams is he will be a rookie next year. Most rookie QBs have a bit of a problem their first year. The Bears should be better than most teams who pick #1, but there's going to be a learning curve, and that could be tough if its playoffs or bust.
  11. According to Bob Tommy Pham may sign with SD for $3 million-&4 million. If it falls through, the Sox are interested. And Clevinger wants at least 2 years $20 million.
  12. In a league where Mitch Trubisky gets multiple chances, I can’t imagine a team that wouldn’t mind having Justin Fields at least as their back up QB.
  13. I don’t think that’s necessarily true. They didn’t want to pay Poles price. He didn’t adjust until he ran out of options.
  14. So is Clevengers problem his accusations against him or that he still wants too much money? Or a combo? Chapman has had no problem getting jobs abd he fireda gun at a woman or at least tried to scare her. And now he's on TMZ fondling his mother's breasts.
  15. Stone just told Pedro he was a cerebral guy. How dumb does he think the listeners are?
  16. No. JR wants more than the Braves ever got, and isn’t planning on paying back one cent.
  17. They didn't need a billion dollar handout.
  18. If anyone read Keith Law's 2023 write up on Zavala, you would be giddy. The Padres signed Zavala in January of 2021 for $1.2 million, part of the delayed signing period due to the pandemic. He went out and posted a .400 OBP that summer as a 16-year-old in the DSL, one of only four regulars that young in the league and the only one to top even a .340 OBP. He started last year in extended spring training, blasted through the Arizona League in 10 games (.345/.412/.621), then hit .254/.355/.508 in six weeks in Low A. He was the only 17-year-old to get 100 plate appearances in full-season ball last year, but posted a median OBP for the level and was in the top 15 percent of all hitters there in slugging (same minimum of 100 PA). He has absurd bat speed, rifling the bat through the zone with big hip rotation for hard contact and power, while he’s already shown unusual plate discipline for his age, especially when it comes to laying off pitches out of the zone. As a defender, he shows good instincts and routes, playing center so far more than right, but the odds are he’ll move to the corner in the long term.
  19. Most of the guys they traded where worse than the guys they just got for Cease. You complain if they trade them, you complain if they acquire them. The good news is this new hitting coach is the bomb. Paul Dejong is fixed. Look at his spring training stats.
  20. There has to be a system to empty. The system sucked. They made an awful trade for the Shark. It made no sense for a rental. They did trade for Eaton, who turned out pretty well with performance, and got a haul trading him.
  21. This would have been a perfect time for them to try what they tried 2014-2016, Sign some guys and hope for the best. If they play as expected, you lose no draft position. If a few work out, you can deal them for prospects or hover around .500 and contend. It doesn't make any sense to me why they are almost trying to be that bad again. There is nothing in it for them.
  22. WTF? A guy is supposed to be fixed in spring training? I'm no fan of Chris Getz, but exactly how many times have you seen Thompson pitch?
  23. Everyone but you knows Getz knows more about Thompson than you do.
