At first, around it, but in time, unless an ownership change, within. as well.

Makes sense, but the White Sox are going to blame their status in Chicago on location. I hope there isn't much in public funding help, but changing neighborhoods will allow for differnet things, although I wonder how long it would actually take to develop around a new South Loop ballpark. I have the feeeling its going to look similar to what GRF looks like now with a bunch of emptiness.

Jerry blew it for the other owners when he took the state for a ride . He got infrastructure for the UC. The Bears Reno of Soldier Field is a disaster for the city and state. Over 20 years later they owe more than it cost. If somebody really thinks JR is going to get most of the money to build a new park from the taxpayers, they are more stoned than Snoop.

Bob says Seattle is now in on Cease.

I do think people need to be civil., and the question I would have had this year would have been to JR and he’s not going to be answering questions anyway. I would like to know which of the Chris Getz moves this offseason couldn’t have been made by someone without at least a season in the organization. They can’t waste a year. Looks like that’s just what they are doing.

I disagree. I used to go to all the Soxfest, and usually every day. I never went in an autograph line, never really interacted with players, except Ron Kittle, who apparently thinks I’m someone he knows. He is a fun and nice guy, but for some reason he thinks I’m someone else. He just comes up and talks to me. But I always loved the seminars. They were interesting, even with the fluff aspect of the event. Now, I would be opposed to fans actually yelling, but asking tough questions, and getting real answers is something we all deserve especially after the last couple of seasons. With Rick Hahn being the mouthpiece of the front office for so long , it’s been a while since there has been a straight answer.

Royals sign Adam Frazier...nobody surprised

He will now be eligible to play for the White Sox. -
So they must have told Pedro, this is his last season.

Back in the 90s , season ticketholders got a Weekend pass for 25 or 30 bucks. The only time I saw JR at Soxfest, a guy was complaining to him that not enough players were there.
-
I agree, but still they need to face the music. We do know if the Sox were what they claimed they would be the last 2 seasons, Soxfest would actually happen.
-
They owned it for 4 years before anyone ever heard of Covid 19. And wouldn't you think office towers , at least multiple are kind of off the board now? It could be kind of similar to when the Sox moved into their current home. Several of the suites down the lines weren't completed until almost 20 years after the park opened. If the Sox somehow did build a park there, most of the 78 would be a construction or look like a desert probably for a similar length of time.

The Rays are paying $600 million for a 1.3 billion project. Seems similar, hotels, apartments, restaurants. They will have a dome, but costs are higher here, plus no water lines or sewer lines or electric anywhere near, even if the ground is clean, it's going to be expensive. Word is the A's are having trouble getting financing, so who knows what happens there. JR might have lost his fastball, but he's nowhere near John Fisher bad.

Which, considering the amount of residents in IL, and in metro Chicago, the overwheming percentage will never even drive by this place, let alone use it. It benefits JR and his heirs, and probably the developer. BTW, the developer has been sitting on this land for 8 years with all kinds of things that were going to be built. Yet not one shovel in the ground yet. JR to save the day? I doubt it.

Sox select John Schriffen to be TV PbP announcer

When it came down to the final 3, I thought Connor had a 99.9% chance at the job. -
Sox select John Schriffen to be TV PbP announcer

This guy has no chance. Even if he is awesome, at least 25% will hate him. And people want the truth. The team is going to suck. JR and Brooks don't allow them to tell the truth. -
Correctly would be making the billionaires pay for it.

It helps with DPs, and if you can throw, you'll occasionally get someone at 3B. Also you are a cutoff guy, so it helps. Maybe not as much as other positions, but heing able to throw is a good thing.

Depending how much money they get from the government for free, there will probably be a clause like there was for the Bears when Soldier Field was rehabbed that the team couldn't be sold for X amount of years after the build was done.
-
Yes, it's more expensive and local governments are actually less likely to pay for these ever growing in expense buildings. Do you really think JR thought when they built their current home, he'd be owning the team when he was 90? The South Loop has changed a bit, but you get in after the change, if the changed is for the better, things are far more expensive.

In 1985 the corner of Clark and Roosevelt was nothing more than weeds and railroad tracks that had been abandoned by the Rock Island five years before. The city needed to build the pipes, sewer lines, power lines, roads, bridges, and subway stops that would serve the new stadium. Reinsdorf wanted to keep the money from parking and concessions. He also didn’t want to pay rent on the new facility. City Hall expected the Sox to foot some of the bill. That was a non-starter as far as the Sox were concerned. Does anyone really think things have changed?
-
Didn’t write it was an issue. In fact, I’m betting on it. Unless JR announces in the next couple of years he’s building a ballpark on his own with some state and city concessions, we will have to go through what all these towns with ballpark issues had to go through, save Arlington, TX. Rob Manfred is going to have to come to town and tell us how the team can’t possibly compete at their current location, which we were told before, only to build them something where they usually didn’t compete despite have several competitive advantages. And people can fool themselves all they want. JR isn’t putting up his own money to build a 10 figure ballpark.
-
This will drag out for a while. I'd bet a lot of money that the White Sox don't move when their current lease ends. If, somehow, they do move to the 78, as long as it takes these things to hash out, and then actually build, they will, at the very least, be signing a short term extension.

No way Fisk is there.

2023-24 NFL Season Thread
Dick Allen replied to CentralChamps21's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
That was a fun year. I remember back then some scout was on TV saying if the Bears had Matt Stafford at QB, they would win the Super Bowl. -
Buiding stadiums for billionaires and saying how it will benefit us all is the same exercise as trickle down economics. It never adds up in reality.
