  1. There’s a good chance every single player the White Sox acquire for Cease, if they are ready in 2024 or 2025, will be eligible for free agency before the White Sox are good again as long as JR is operating the team.
  2. He can’t count on that timeline with the new draft rules. The Orioles drafted 1, 2, 5, 1. JR is already at 5, 10 at best. If he wants to win, he has to spend money, including using all of his international pool, and maybe doing the opposite of what he has been doing and taking contracts for more pool money. That’s the bottom line. Too many people think it’s 2016 again. It’s not. The new anti tanking rules are going to burn a team that didn’t tank on purpose, but are so stuck in the past they can’t get out of the way of themselves. moral of the story is letting KW and RH make baseball decisions is tanking.
  3. Until the White Sox can actually develop a guy who isn’t considered a top prospect, I’m going with 2 top 50s.
  4. Getz isn’t going to trade Robert or Montgomery or Schultz, so he has to get this trade right. He messes it up, the next decade will almost assuredly look like Rick Hahn’s tenure. If not worse. Imagine how long a rebuild would have taken if there wasn’t Sale, Q, and Eaton on team friendly contracts to trade, and having to draft 10th every other year and drafting guys like Collins? After Cease, all he has left will only get him the type of crap he has already picked up. At some point, some other team will blink.
  5. As diminished as Cease’s stuff was last year, at least according to Balta, he led all of baseball in swords. Those are ridiculous looking half swings hitters take when they have been fooled.
  6. Doesn't mean they are out at all. They are not going to meet the current price, at least not now. But let's see what happens when something appears to be cooking.
  7. How many GMs think they have more than enough pitching? These teams would still like to add him, but don't want to pay out there nose with prospects.
  8. Plus he needs a new TV deal. I think this screams of going at it without much help because who would throw money at his franchises?
  9. It's a minor league deal so I shouldn't be bothered, but Machado's friends and family acquisitions, as bad as there were, had a lot more upside than the Pedro friends and family picks. Can Getz at least acquire 1 guy we can be semi-excited about?
  10. Think about how bad the AL Central has been. Then think about how many years the White Sox, with all their advantages, seemed to not even try to compete. MLB should do itself a favor and force JR to get out.
  11. I think it worked out pretty well they traded the pick. I get your position. I just think the Bears maximize their offseaon haul trading the pick, and if Fields doesn't get better, he's at least not terrible, they would probably have 2 high firsts and at least 2 high seconds in 2025 which would be more than enough to get them at the top of the draft again.
  12. Pedro’s comment “and we’re not done” was great too. He can’t be this clueless. What they aren’t done acquiring replacement level and below players? With a legitimate major league organization, Pedro would have been done long ago.
  13. I bet Fields QBR goes up next year if the Bears add Maserati Marv to the mix. If he plays like he played yesterday in playoff games, he’s definitely good enough to win a Super Bowl. I get everyone’s feeling from both sides, but I think the point about the Bears , if they didn’t draft a QB this year, worst case scenario being pretty set with draft capital because of it, to draft one next year.is spot on. It worked pretty well this year. They have Moore, Stevenson, Wright, the first pick this year, and a second next year. They get a similar haul for this pick, and all their bases are covered. I did read an article a few weeks old where ex NFL GMs said Fields would only get the Bears a second or third rounder. The talent is there. I agree he is inconsistent, but he has thrown some unreal balls, and his legs are such a weapon. Maybe I’m drinking the kool aide, but this team isn’t far away from being really good.
  14. I was watching MLBN a month or so ago and they had Ted Simmons on. A HOF catcher back in the era guys through 250 innings a year. Also was a long time executive. He said if he were running a team today he would limit pitchers to 10 batters an appearance. It’s hard to believe you could go through an enitire season like that, but we may be heading that way. I’m sure some team will experiment with 2 or 3 bullpen games a week soon.
  15. I read that earlier and thought it was strange. The good news is I don't think the article gets Omar anywhere.
  16. So why blast me for not understanding or liking the strategy? They trade Cease, while it's a tank move, at least what you get back you can expect to be good. There is not 1 playet Getz has signed or traded for yet, you can EXPECT to be good Right now it looks like they are trying to be historically bad.
  17. I agree. The price was around there from the get go. Every team would be in on him for what the Sox are willing to pay.
  18. I didn’t think competing although the owner indicated it was in the cards. Tanking is different now. The draft position is going to be where teams that win 75-77 games wind up, at best. So if you are signing players for 1 year, you may as well try to be at least mediocre. I really don’t see the purpose in acquiring all bad players. There is nothing to be gained. It’s ironic but the White Sox are wasting a year. Again.
  19. It will be nice when Getz finally acquires a guy you can say should be a good player instead of just hoping. So far, the White Sox have to do a lot of fixing for what has been acquired to be good. It hasn’t been a strength.
  20. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bleedcubbieblue.com/platform/amp/2023/12/20/24009313/nike-changing-mlb-uniforms-2024
  21. There are at least 7 or 8 on the 40 that won't get claimed on waivers. There's another 3 or 4 that really serve no purpose but there is a chance they get claimed, and there are at least another 7 or 8 where a miracle has to happen for any to be useful. That's half the roster that is totally useless, and many more that are more likely useless. The teams problem isn't culture, it's bad players.
  22. Perez is another example of Getz mediocrity in his pervious position. I will give him credit with not being too attached to move on, but we were told for years this guy was an up and Comer
  23. Jerseys have really gone up in popularity the last decade or so. I think the vast majority of fans own at least one jersey of their favorite team. Obviously, the switch from Majestic to Nike a few years ago required many to update their wardrobe. Now Nike is making small changes to all teams’ jersey, obviously to sell even more. All white jerseys will be going to a slightly off white. The numbers and letters on the names on the back will be going smaller, and the overlay on the buttons in front will be more narrow. You will notice teams with piping on the front like the Tigers, those pipes will be much closer together. The good news is if you are OK with the old version, there should be tons available steeply discounted at places like TJ Maxx and Marshall’s soon.
