What are you looking forward to this off season
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
all of the above for me. Just more BS. Next year they will lose 102 games and be crowing with their chests out they improved 19 games. -
I am going to measure how serious they are about getting better using Gavin Sheets as the barometer. He sucks. He'll be 29 next year, his HR rate has gone down 3 straight seasons. He doesn't get on base much, doesn't hit for a lot of power, isn't a plus defensively. If they are still trying to fit him in as a 4 or 5 hitter next season, they are full of s%*#. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he had his chance. Move on.
-
He basically said the same s%*# last year, and everything got worse.
-
The statement is worthless. Face the press, and bring in some national guys who aren’t afraid to ask questions. Tell people you and your GM will answer fans questions at Soxfest. The old we owe you but never repaying ….everyone knows people like that.

The one thing the Sox didn’t do that all the other teams that had successful gut rebuilds did, was clean house before it began. jR kept the dopes in place that got them into that situation. Now, at least there has been some change, but certainly not enough. That’s why I have come around to the Sox can’t have sustainable success until JR is gone side. I’m hoping he comes out with something where he is selling, yeah right. Or maybe he can give his control to someone else.
-
He has called left field right field and vice versa. Multiple times he has gotten so excited the Sox actually scored a run, he thought they tied or took the lead when they had not. Has screwed up the outs several times, and even called the Padres the Dodgers last week. I don’t hold it against you for liking his broadcast. Everyone has different tastes. I just see a guy trying to sell bullshit. I get, they only gave him bullshit to sell. Still, respect the audience a little bit. I’ve stated, I actually like South side stand up, if used properly. But he used it like a bat flip after a homer to make the score 10-2 with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th.
-
Just wait until he has where left field and right field are located down, figures out where to look for the score and the outs, and has enough experience to determine who the opponent is. OK John Schriffen. We see you. Let’s go! South side, staaaaaand up!
-
I watch but half watch. Announcers either way really have never bothered me. I loved Harry and Hawk. The others the Sox have had were fine. But Schriffen makes my blood boil. And I think it’s the fake rosy outlook he gives everything and his lack of knowledge about the game. He declared the bullpen fixed for 2025. Really? He said just yesterday Benetendis leadership kept the season from becoming unglued. They set a record. Give the listeners more credit. Besides, most know say more about the team than he does. He lives in fantasyland and anyone that gives him the time of day in the clubhouse can do no wrong on the field.

I think Moncada, Eloy,,,they are what they are, vut for some reason I think you put Robert on a good team, he can still be a star.

If there was a guy out there that made bad hitters good hitters, he wouldn't be available to the White Sox. It just amazes me how, since Hriniak left, the organization as a whole, despite seeing how their best performers operated, haven't emphasized working counts. You look at the better hitter from the JR era, they almost all took their walks. And weren't constantly down in the count. It's pretty simple. Make the pitcher throw you strikes.
-
I believe it was Chris Getz wo said about a year ago, I don't like our team.
-
He is the same as we have seen since the strike of 1994. He is not independent. He is a JR and most likely now, TLR schill. I don’t hate him as a person. I’m sure he is a pleasant guy. I do hate that he is GM of the White Sox. A position you even acknowledge he probably doesn’t deserve. What the White Sox need is a guy with a vision and some autonomy. Sure , they would have to work within a budget. Everyone does. But they shouldn’t have to bow to opinions that are long past their shelf life. The last time the White Sox had little JR influence on their drafts and trades was Larry Himes, who, while probably an asshole, knew JR wasn’t a professional baseball evaluator. That was the time the Sox had the best success doing what they are trying to do now.
-
I agree with this and he also has some chip on his shoulder that he can’t let rest. He sees some 18 year old kid get 7 figures and bust, and it enrages him on the inside. The cost of high draft picks has rise. significantly since JR was an owner. But even back near the beginning, JR wasn’t a minor league guy. In fact, perhaps the biggest reason Hawk became GM was because the Sox lack of depth in 1985. He relented a bit when Himes took over and kept him out of most of the scouting, evaluating and developing business. And JR hated that.
-
I remember at the beginning of the year, Robert was giving the hitting exercises the team had him go through. I can’t remember if it was look at a quadrant or what, but The Big Hurt was in the studio and said that approach was wrong.
-
Of course Crochet is open to an extension. Just not the type of extension JR would be interested in. The other issue is the Sox are going to be beyond bad for a while, and bad for a while after that, if a lot goes right. Their offense is putrid, and not much help on the horizon. Pitchers get hurt. There is really very little to cling to here. Everything is bad.

9/25 Sox vs. California Angels 6:40PM - is today the day?

A ball off the wall and 3 walks. Zero runs. The Sox will win tonight. -
Buster Olney and Jesse Rogers’s turn ripping the Sox

Everyone knew they would suck. But to suck more than any team ever should be surprising, even if it seemed obvious after reflection. -

That team was great until the second half. They were over .500 but barely. It seems to me, once Tony started really getting his footing, everything started to crumble. Horrible trades...they became an average at best team almost overnight. Were very mediocre the next year, but got some pulse back when Cairo took over. that went away after a bad loss to Cleveland, and they basically gave up. -

If 1. happens, 2. follows really fast. -

I think having Tony "retire" would help at least a little bit. It certainly wouldn't hurt. It all started going wrong once he started getting comfortable. -
The Blackhawks pre and post seems the same. The Bulls is the same except minus Wil Perdue. Supposedly they will guest that spot occassionally. Ozzie was on the commercial so I figure he'll be back. Our Chuck was a little negative, so who knows how that will play with JR.
