  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Mussina is something like 20-2 against the Twins with a low 2/high 1 ERA. So that means the Twins will win anyway tonight. We better rip the Royals a new one. in the trampoline dome there is a mystical force that reverses all known priciples of physics.....up is down, right is left, black is white, earth revolves around the moon, and so on.......
  2. and here comes MN with two in the ninth, we all know where this is headed....from potentially one game up, to one game down, classic WSox second half baseball....goodnight from the OC............
  3. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) We're 12-15 in our last 27. That is not a slump at this point. wow, if that doesn't put reality into perspective............. I still cannot understand how a pitching staff simultaneously implodes, how it's even possible for so many individuals to just lose it in the blink of an eye I'm hoping finally, finally dropping out of first is a kick in the a** to get this group to put a chip back on their shoulders, play with some passion and anger, or something, anything to stop looking so defeated..............and this my friends is where I believe a manager is resonsible for brininging that intensity back, and I just don't think we have the right skipper to do that. We're seeing the 4th second half plummet in a row, with many roster changes, but one manager throughout. Hell, at my 6 yr olds' AS game today the coach gave a more passionate, motivating mid-game speech than I could ever imagine Ozzy giving.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) A rotation of Danks, Buehrle, Vaz, Contreras, Richard isn't going to do s*** in the playoffs. In fact, with that s***ty rotation you better be scoring 10 runs a game just to make the playoffs. then again look at the names in the Twins rotation, if they make the playoffs, with that group of nonames and a lineup that is very avg, no one would be figure them to be an automatic first round exit
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Every thread turns into a Konerko thread. Amazing. We get it. He sucks. has anyone noticed how much skunkier the beer has tasted at the Cell since PK returned????????
  6. when PK came back there was a thread to the effect of why put him back in if we were winning to which I replied "if it ain't broke....." chemistry is a big thing and if a group of players feel they're locked in, you have to leave well enough alone. Wise was filling in very very nicely (hits but especially speed legging out the xtra base to tack on runs we would not have had with PK lumbering one base per hit) and we were cruising. Having a dead spot in the offense puts pressure on the rest of the O if they fall behind, and on the pitcher if he believes the O cannot come back if he gives a few up. I don't think the pitching struggles and PKs return aren't related
  7. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) That's not the way it's printed. Give your dad some scratch, Ozzie! How much of that $23 million he made while playing do you think he still has sitting around? Note: I am mostly kidding around. It may very well be that Ozzie's dad doesn't want his money. He didn't mention that his dad owns the "Ozzie Guillen Theme Park" in Venezuela, and has a 11K sq ft house with a $10K/mo mortgage
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Have the Boston Red Sox just lost 4 of 5 at home I know they are good teams but these are the Sox, AT HOME? Did the Yankees just get beat pretty good by the O's twice? Tampa Bay lost 7 in a row not to long ago and sits atop the yanks and sox. The White Sox are not playing well right now but they are by no means done. A win tonight or tomorrow and they will be 3-4 at Detroit and Minnesota. I am fine with that. They need to beat he s*** out of hte Royals. After this weekend they play 16 of 19 at home and shoudl be getting some players back. I also think KW will make a move. great post to put things in perspective, thanks I needed that, the last two days have brought the worst out in my fansmanship.........
  9. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) off-topic slightly (i do this a lot, sorry) anyone notice how hard mauer hits the ball? watching that guy hit, his swing generates a lot of power, on linedrives, grounders, pretty much everything he hits, it looks very hard to field his balls in play beyond popouts i heard Bill Melton mention that they purposely cut down when they hit balls low in the zone to keep it on the ground, using the fields speed to their advantage there's no doubt that they tailor their hitting approach to that turf, it's a smart move that pays off year after year in banking on those home wins to keep them in the div. race..... it would be cool to hear a current/former twins player confirm this
  10. I honestly think the Twins wouldn't bother me so much if their squeek in the playoff approach that relies so much on home field, didn't end up getting them bounced in the 1st round every time as they start the series on the road, and end up making the Central look weak
  11. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) they seriously will be hurting once they don't have that turf anymore, and I don't think the fans realize that. maybe but this year is all I care about right now while we're still in 1st for the next day and a half. as soon as that first bloop dropped, I would have bet my house on at least three runs, they do this year after year after freakin year...... If I were the Offense, I couldnt muster the drive to go back to bat after your mgr sticks it up you a** by leaving him in their in that situation.
  12. no one should be surrprised, this is their game, using that turf to mfg runs
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Ugh, that was a freaking bloop. and that's how it starts every freakin time with these guys in the trampolinedome
  14. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) Really? Even with Texeira now? I would take the Halos rotation over the Cubs..even with Zambrano. one team plays in the NL and wets themselves away from the comfy confines of their ivy, the other has almost 2x as many road wins as losses, and does it in the AL, there's absolutely no contest here
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) Yes they are. Still, I can't believe some people are conceeding the WS to them. well if you have to pick a frontrunner they're definitely it, having all their games TV'd here, it's very clear how much better balanced they are than any other team, starting pitching, setup, closer, major power, speed at almost every position, and everyone can lay down bunts and go opposite field...pretty daunting....I hated them when I moved here 5 yrs ago and absolutely loved the Sox taking them out in the ALCS, but over time their class organization and continuous flow of quality minor leaguers has won me over as a fan

  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) It definitely couldn't have been a worse start to the series barring somebody getting hurt. Offense has been doing well and we can't get a run off Slowey?? Mark stunk by Mark's standards. They kicked our ass. Team has stunk before and come back. It might be a wise idea to get down and dirty the rest of the series if we hope to get a 2-2 split. Wonder how Oz will react to that awful baseball game. Twins are amazing. Yankees beat the s*** out of them and they don't quit. They win last 2 vs. Cleveland and now kick our ass and get the upper hand with 3 games left in the series. Like sunrise and sunset, shifting of the tides, changing of the seasons, the Sox sh*itting their pants in MN during the 2nd half, some things are just a lock to happen. This is now 4 straight seasons they'll take a nosedive after the ASB, the worst of all being 2005, blowing a 15 game lead save for a single homerun by Crede. As much as it kills me every year, with the race this close, this team has exactly a 1% chance of winning this division from MN....once again guys no one in the country have ever heard of become instant reliable superstars, they're just a superior organization, on bare bones budget and loss of every star they breed, they still snatch titles from the 110 and 130M dollar teams like ours and the Tigers. I'm now reaching the point of rooting against them as a defense mechanism for the nights and weeks of disappointment. With the money MB, JC, JV, are making it's an absolute crime to not be wiping the floor with their staff.
  18. sad that ESPN cannot find it in their NE hearts to put one of the 4 games on, with a really good race shaping up between these two, it's a perfect example of where they refuse to "tell the story" and help gain a natl interest in races outside their one sacred rivalry
  19. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) I just have a bad feeling the Twins will win the series 3-1. I think it's safe to say 90% of those on this board feel exactly the same, MN at home has always had not only our number over the years.... but many many other teams whose long ball strategy LOSES to duck snorts, crappy choppers on the trampoline-turf, and speed. Aside from the bomb to center, HRs are a b**** to come by in that place, and when the Sox are posed with having to slap hits in gaps (the only way to win in that place IMO), they're just not equipped. This is a seriers where an opposite field hitting Wise, Ramirez, Cabrera, and even Konk if we'd be so lucky, would be great. I seem to recall game after game cursing the TV as some ridiculous mis-hits fall in the gap in the 8th and 9th for twink winners. They never seem to straight up dominate there, rather eek wins out
  20. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) It's nice to see Quentin and Dye's production not slowing down (One could say it's getting even better, especially Q with his 8 HR in his last 13 games..) As long as these guys don't cool off similar to how Dye/Thome/Konk slowed down in the second half of 2006, we should hold a rather comfortable lead for the rest of the year as our schedule doesn't really get all that difficult after this tigers/twins/royals road trip Bos X 2, @Oak, NYY, LAA.......I'd argue to the contrary
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) and finally why we should win this division MN says hi
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) The second time around we usually get these guys. They might not hit them the first time, but they seem to learn something and use it. This is the EXACT situation where the Sox somehow stumble when they should roll..... their (current) best pitcher against a no name with astronomical ERA, and at HOME nonetheless...... we end up losing something like 7-2 god this frustrates me to no end with the Sox and makes me start rooting for the other team, somehow counteract my disbelief and aggravation with 100M+ in salary blowing what should be automatic oppportunities to gain a game in the division
  23. the twins have ALWAYS had our number, any season where they're standing between us and the playoffs, I'd bet my house on them, including this one.
  24. MN is so infuriating, baffling, amazing all rolled up, how they keep winning is ??? If I have to guess it all boils down to the trampoline field, where their bloop shots, high choppers, and driibblers routinely manufacture runs, and opposing teams with power hitters being in the wrong park for that skill. On the road they just don't get that advantage......guess everyone loads up to the style of their park, so fairs fair
