My guess is players will be Benetendi, Jiminez, Vaughn and a couple pitchers from active roster and then about 20 guys ranging from Fisk to Donn Pall
-
Which will be bad contracts before the ink drys so I'm not sure that is their play. The risk on Bellinger is he needs to be as good as last year and Chapman is more sizzle then steak at this point is actaully better then I thought. The thing will be, how long to they want to be on the books with him. By signing both now though they win the offseason and get some media roll into spring training which is important but staying with what they have may be the better play if they have faith in the young guys and looking at sustainability. Chapman does line up well with Dansby as does Bellinger but the Dodger trade signifies to me that they are moving in a different direction but who knows.

The sad reality of going with and retaining Eberflus is they will never have a consistent offense. In order to do so they would need to go with a guy with no HC potetnial. The OC version of Fangio. If the OC gets a HC coach job simialr to Gase he could take staff with him and then the Bears are back at square one. A spot where they do not thrive. I really like Waldron. -

Here is the issue. Whoever he works with, if he is good he is gone after year 1. -
Sox looking at building in South Loop

Wonder if the Bears move to the cell. Enough land there to build the domed stadium. -
For under $10M takea flyer at short and hope for a new appraoch in all facets if needed.

Pitching in teh MLB is going to go toward load management more and more. You need guys in August, September and October. Not May and June. Pitchers are pitchign less and that will continue. I htink we will get to 25 starts and 150 innigns as the base line. Seems this is the baseline with the Braves and Sale. All of this is MHO.

Youngest team in football and all of that draft capital. -

Eberflus had three epic failures to lose games and has seen both coordinators and two other hires fired already. If they are moving on from Fields then clean house and start over. Only saving grace is if there is a proven OC brought in that is not jumping ship in 12 months if they succeed like Gase did. -

His defense sucks until he got an All Pro and took over the play calling. The guys he hired are terrible. I am not certain they even employ an OL coach. -

If TTT takes into account time outside of the pocket, it could be the most useless misifnormed stat out there. -

The point to that, and I am catching up on this thread is not the OL and time to throw, to me it is the time it takes to make a decision. Love had better protection but he was also throwing it much sooner. Fields holds on to the ball way toooooo long and still can't find a receiver. If the answer is getting Fields more weapons, then he better take a large haircut on an extension. -

This is him talking down to his crowd. Fields missed 4 games. That game was 4/13 of the season. That is not imaterial. -
Maybe the new regime wanted him but the clown car wanted the unathletic kid with the weird batting stance.

Against certain defenses the ball needs to come out quick. With Bagent this seemed to happen and the offense seeemed to be crisp and in a flow. I am not certain if a coaching staff can fix Fields flaws and get the best out of him but Getsy stinks. I still think Fields can win and the team strength via draft capital can be built around him. Let new HC and OC determine with Poles and Warren what is best. -
Chicago Cubs Offseason Outlook brought to to you by Caulfield
Harry Chappas replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sometimes I agree with this point and then other times I'm not so sure. They always seem to be getting everyone either via trade or FA but it reality they finalize very few of these deals. They are light years better then the White Sox but that's a rather low bar. -
Seems something changed here. Was it possibly the stupidity of Hahn and Williams and not JR's policies?

I like tha the Chiefs were complaining that they usually warn them. Yes they warn them but it is illegal and with a minute left you don't warn them. My guess is that he was warned earlier. It didn't impact the play but it's still stupid. -

I think it has come down to who will guarantee him the most without putting in kickers about his availability to pitch. Then there is, who owns the Blue Jays......Roges Communications. This is bigger then the baseball card. I wonder if they agree to play a series or two or three a year in Japan for him or begin games at 9:00 at night in Toronto to be on at 11 in the morning in Japan. -

I don't think they can punish the player so every player is freeto do as they choose. -
I wonder if JR would like to have an expansion team in Nashville and sell the White Sox. If a new MLB franchise is $2B+, he sells the White Sox for $1.8B, buys in at $2B+ with that group, no tax implication and then he is part of the new investor group in Nashville. Didn'tthat happen somehow with Montreal, Florida, Boston, Washignton? MLB gets a viable team in Chicago and then whoever runs Nashville does so with JR not controlling but a passive investor. Whoever owns Sox with Reinsdorf could actually buy him out and he could take that revenue to Nashville. I think it's more likely JR builds a 25K baseball stadium in west loop. Small stadium is less overhead and creates a greater demand for big games $$$$, if there ever are any. Jerry hasa $2B asset that generates limited cash flow.
