Wow. If I am the Rangers I let him go to the NL. The Phillies do not even need him.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

The players choosen are the most recornizable, highest paid and a little ethnic. The fact the quality of players not choosen is as high as it is is more impressive to me. Think of what that would have looked like in previous years. Peavy, Jackson, Beckham, Quentin, Danks, Floyd and Thorton could have been the best players on previous teams. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) I think suggesting that Tim Beckham won't make it because he has put up a .700 OPS in the minors is silly too. It's absolutely discouraging, but the fact of the matter is, Tim Beckham is just going to be 21 years old next year and it's not as if he's suddenly going to lose the talent that made him the #1 pick. It's going to take one mildly good year for people to jump back on his bandwagon, and with young players, it can be like turning on a light-switch...just have to figure out what he needs to do to be successful. I know nothing of Tim Beckham, I was just trying to clear up what I think his post meant. As far as the Rays are concerned, I think it was terrrible pick as a more MLB ready prospect would be producing now when they need it. Their payroll may be back down t0 $50M this season. They are not gettign the high picks any longer nad thus their farm system may take a hit. I hope it works out as I like them.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) Are you kidding me? He is employed by the White Sox! I think he was talking about Cowley not Merkin. Rick Hahn is great at his job and I think he is the epitome of stealth. That is who guys need to talk to as a source. Sounds like Reinsdorf and Williams had nothing to do with it at all. The Kids Can Play Part II is all I have t osay about Cowley. Cowley's Twitter is media as he is a media source. Oney Guillen's is not.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 04:07 AM) Unless Tim can make it up before 2012 and start full time, I think that's a pretty safe bet. It doesn't somehow disqualify him from being able to have a good career. I think what he was saying was that Gordon has already played more games in the MLB than Tim ever will. To argue over who will play more is silly at this popint as it looks like Gordon will be hanging around for a while.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) As things stand now, the battle for 4th OF is Lillibridge, De Aza and Gartrell. This is also where Teahen will be in the mix although they need soemone who can play CF.

to the Twins for Delmon Young....oh wait.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Lol we were one player away from the best lineup in baseball last year? I think we're loads better with Dunn in place of Kotsay, but I think there are a number of teams with better lineups. Also, I can't feel bad for a hitting coach for having too much talent to work with. Maybe that was a green post? That was why I used to word potential. They have the talent to have one of the best line-ups in baseball as Rios, Konerko, Quentin, Dunn, Beckham, and Ramirez could all be Silver Slugger award winners. Pierre could bat .300, AJ did this in 2009 and we really do not know what Teahan can bring. Thus Greag Walker is in a bad spot if they do not produce. Sorry no green, I really believe this.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) come on, the Sox defer one million dollars for 7 years for a special player to the franchise and now you're acting like it's going to be routine? If he is a club amabassador who has to go to Soxfest every year the $1M pays for itself. All he has to do is get drunk and sit in a skybox like Bobby Hall.
-
I feel bad for Greg Walker as he is really in a no win situation now. The White Sox line-up is potentially the best in baseball.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) This is where it starts though. Do you think teams mean to get themselves in trouble when they defer money? Then all the sudden you wake up and you're cutting checks to Luis Castillo in 2024. Julio Cruz was paid until 2000. Somehow the Sox were able to get past that to sign Albert Belle.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) So as of right now we have pretty much the same exact offensive lineup from last year except Dunn replaces Kotsay...right? and Morel replaces Teahan.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) The Cubs are committed to Carlos Pena for nothing in 2012 or 2013, or 2014-2019, for that matter. The guy batted .196 and got $10M. That is a joke I do nto give a f*** what his BABIP was that is a terrible deal.

That fact Konerko has gotten through the White Sox OG/KW and Frank Thomas soap operas without a negative thing to say gives him all the right in the world to do what he wants. The White Sox do not have to wait around for him. I want him back but if not, as long as the money goes somewhere I am fine.

The brutality that is NBA officiating never ceases to amaze me. Boozer almost had his nose broken and gets 'T'ed' for pointing it out.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) KW spoke of a Plan B and C today for 1B - well according to a scout, Derrek Lee is on the radar. Is he B or C? Does it matter? Adds defense. half a minute ago via TweetDeck From cowley.... Well who knows anymore. If Konerko does not come back, Lee is a no brainer as the next option. Herm can keep him healthy.

Rizzo is MLB's version of Josh McDaniel right now.
-
Going back to the Garcia move the White Sox have to sign him as there is no rotation or bullpen depth currently in the organization. Sale is not a rotation option as there is a one man bullpen right now in Thorton and a huge hole in the rotation until Peavy proves otherwise.
-
Actually the Sears Centre would be a better option to draw from the Rockford area.
-
Why not just go all out for Crawford. I have always thought Werth benefitted from the team around him. Terrible move IMHO.

The official Winter Meetings trade idea thread

We all think that payroll addition is there this offseason but what if Rios was on the block for a young speedy CF that could replace Pierre at the top of the order eventually. -
"All-in" to me means signing Beltre to a one year deal as his market is thin for teams that can give him a shot at winning.

IMHO Konerko seems a bit to proud to just collect a paycheck and not produce. I think he goes 2 years with a mutual option for a third and player only for a 4th. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) It must have been one of the other rotating GMs that decided to keep Kotsay last year, not Kenny. The first thing Guillen did last offseason was to go to KW and get Kotsay resigned.
-
The best part of the Cowley thing was that he was on the SCORE talking about how Olivio was looking to have a good shot and AJ was gone.....what a douche. This morning he was defending the Ozeroo's decision to go with the rotating GM. His point was that it was an organizational move not a OG move. I thought it was obvious that KW was allowing OG to try this way of doing things. I guess I could have been wrong.....
