A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
Harry Chappas replied to hogan873's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) I remember the Chargers vs. Bengals in Cincinatti for the AFC championship game. -50 wind chill or something like that. Totally frozen field. It was a farce of a game with the frozen field, who would fumble the frozen ball first, slip and make the big mistake first, etc. San Diego had nobody to blame but theirself for not having a better record then Cincy and having to play in those conditions though. Now if that was the Super Bowl where the NFL chose Cincinatti as the venue then that would have been pure stupidity and totally unfair. The weather was THE most important factor in the game, as it eliminated most of the skills each team used all year to get to that game. Your point is even more exemplified by the game that was played the week before when Kellen Winslow was carried off the field with heat exhaustion. Almost a 150 degree temperature difference between the two games. I just do not see the point of having it in NY. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) Exactly. You can't bargain hunt when it comes to your starters. We waited on DH and look how that ended up. They are going with exactly what they wanted.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 28, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) It's weird how badly they view Wells, but he was their best starter last year, and was doing well this year, yet it seems he is always the odd man out. I think he was a converted position player and they did not expect that much out of him. He made his name in their minor league bullpen and they might think his arm has a limited number of innings in it....... Also I do not study the cubs numbers but it seemed like a week ago the entire team except for Lee and Ramirez were well over .300 like a bunch of guys in the .330 range and now while there are still a couple in the .300 range there are bunch that are now back down to earth.

Wasn't Wells slated for the pen anyway? He was as good as anyone in that rotation and young. He could not have been too excited about the move.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) Jacob planned to kill MIB? If the only way that is possible is with a EM-immune person like Desmond, how did he expect Dharma to do anything? Any why would the Others KILL the Dharma people? MIB corrupted Ben? How? Ben only ever took orders from Jacob via Richard. Remember when Ben thought he was summoning the smoke monster well he tells us that it was how the smoke monster actually summoned him. MIB was a stronger soul than Jacob was and better for the island same as Hurley compared to Locke. Locke would have been the better choice but it did not work out that way. That write up really made sense. My personal explanation as to the healing powers of the island and child birth has to due with the level of electromagnetic radition that surrounds the island it kills the baby but helps with the healing. As for time travel, Tunsia and disappearing that was a nice way to fill 6 seasons I guess.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Dodgers are paying for half of Pierre's contract FYI. 2 years at $4M each after Dodger money which is why they had to give up Ely. That is the MO that I most dislike about KW. He gives up prospects in exchaange for cash he did this in the Thome deal and all of those 04/05 Everett and Alomar deals. Also Ritchie was a Schueler deal I believe....I know KW was the GM but I thought Schuler pushed it through. I love how the Sox GM never gets credit for a win but certainly gets blasted for a loss.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) KW, IMO, rushed into things. Instead of waiting to see how the market played out with Pods, he goes and makes a trade for Pierre. However, if he waited a little longer, the Royals would have emerged as the only contender for Pods, and it would have been an easy sign. Maybe a little more expensive than the 2 million he is making this year, but certainly a lot cheaper than the 10 million we owe Pierre for the next year and a half. or KW could have waited lost both Pierre and Pods and have Beckham lead off.

My thought is Williams is letting Guillen do his thing as he is moving on to an executive role like PAxson and Hahn as been told that he will get he GM job at such a point. I also think guillen will be given a year to work with Hahn and see how they go.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Sharks top two lines were coming in on a much higher level than the Flyers in my opinion. I still do not think the Flyers have played nearly the competition that the Haks have in the playoffs and while the Flyers have been on the brink of elimination I think the HAwks are more playoff tested at this point. The fact that the Toews line can play against the Flyers number three line is huge. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 27, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) That's a shame. What is a shame? The thing about Bradley is you know he has emotional issues but the thing is there are a lot of worse things that people do in baseball...steroids....he seems like he really wants to be a good guy but just can not get through his issues. I actually like the guy.

5/27 GT: Sox @ Tampa Bay - 6:10pm CDT
Harry Chappas replied to T R U's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Sox should have looked a little harder at Blalock for third instead of going with Teahen. -
I think Guillen is a guy you either love or hate. In his tenure more players have signed extensions to play for him than left for greener pastures. The Sox have also signed a decent number of bargain free agents that seem to like Ozzie. Think Putz and Peavy would have agreed to come to the Sox if Linebrink and Thorton said Guillen was terrible to play for. Thome seemed open to come back to the Sox.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Cubs in great position to catch up to the Cardinals in the standings after this weekend, as the Cardinals offense is really slowing down. Cards have Wainwright and Carpenter going.

If the Hawks did not choke the game away in Philly, the Flyers may not have even made the playoffs. I found that point interesting. -

I am getting the feeling that the Paper Tiger (CQ) is having injury issues. -

The season is looking like this if the Sox play well this weekend, we are done withthe best team in baseball. If they win 2 great. I look a the Red Sox last week of the season. If the Red Sox are out of it they will rest guys on the road and that 4 game series could be nice. If they are battlting the Yanks....ouch. Split would be nice. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Were? How did the divorce go? Hawk fired them after they hugged Joe West in 1982

Did you know Ribbie and Rhubarb were married.

While I did not see the game, Jenks did get two decent hitters to end the game. he really needs to not be in non-save situations. Also Beckham and Quentin are going as bad as Jenks right now and Peavy is right there with them. The hitting is getting some things going. Survive this weeknd without losing ground and the Sox could be looking ok. I think they are done with Tampa. I also hope Buehrle gets the nod over Peavy on Sunday or they push Garcia back.

So I had some work to do and went away from my desk from the top of fifth until now. Rolling right along reading the good stuff and then poof I hit about the 1:30 mark and was just scrolling through the posts expecting that the game was tied or the Sox lost and I am rolling that mouse frantically and the blood pressure is rising and then I get to page 26 and all is well in the world. SOX WIN Peavy is still the biggest bust on this team.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) It was a streak of quality starts. it was also part of a four game road sweep. when was the last time the Sox have won four in a row anywhere.

Pena 20 pitches in 2 innings. Gotta like that.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) Jason Donald is rapidly becoming a Sox-killer. White Sox advanced scouting at its best.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Would you rather Beckham, Ramirez or Teahen/Nix be the 2 hitter? Nix oughta be playing second there is nothing Beckham is doing right now that Nix can not. Sending him down would be the best thing they could do as he may need to get away from Walker.
