I thought the Sox bench was bad but the Tigers is worse. How do they win with Don Kelly playing 5 times a week.....oh wait.....Jenks is unable to put s*** hitters away.....I got a feeling this game is goig not get a lot closer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Yes, but he warms up nearly every game. Very rarely does he get a full rest on a game day. At this point, let's just hope it's nothing that requires surgery. So do most good set up men. Maybe that is why there are not that many of them. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Well, it has to come sooner or later. You're not going to abuse somebody like Thornton for so many years and not expect him to get hurt, even if his mechanics are nearly flawless. He has thrown 7 less innings than Zumaya this year. I think the overuse thing is overrated. He is on pace to throw 80 innings this year. -

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) anyone who cheers for their fantasy team over their real team is not a fan. one time we were in vegas and a bunch of us each lost about $500 on a football game. one guy was happy because his fantasy guy did well. i swear he was almost murdered right there that is why I said it would not be good for my well being if he homered. The cbssportsline snafu was what got me. I always bet an amount i am fine losing against the Sox. I think of it this way. I will spend $25 a day to watch the Sox win. If they lose, hey I made $25. I would never bet on the Sox as a lose is a double kick in the nuts and I am not sure why people do that. what would you pay to see the OSx win teh WS....I thought of this amout nand bet agsint them. I never regretted it. -

I have Cabrera in fantasy baseball and Arraon Hill. When Cabreara made the out his line was switched with Hill's who has a home run and 3 rbi today....I thought cabreara hit a slam..which for fantasy would have been nice but for my well being, not so much The Blue Jays are good and the White Sox outplayed them..really is sad this season is where it is currently. -

White Sox are 12th in the AL in pitching. I did not realize they were that bad. The effortless innings logged by the offense on a regualr basis is why I can not get behind this team at all. They make corpseball days look productive. -

Huet is going to move to Rockford or be the backup. Nobody is taking that contract. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) It's the National League. I guarantee Jenks would be successful there. Heck, Carlos Silva is a valuable starter in that league. Jenks would be a premier closer in the NL. From watching the NL it just seems that teams give at bats away and do not work a pitcher like they do in the AL, not including the White Sox.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Maybe Nix took Ozzie's kid out drinking? It's just ridiculous. Another case of ozzie trying to prove he knows more than anyone. There really is no need for vizquel to play if Nix is not the answer make Retherford prove that he is not as well. There is no reason whatsoever to have a 43 year old guy putting in time to do nothing that any 26 year old with potential could not do. Now ifthe Sox were playing well and a guy went down and you need Vizquel for a week or two fine or once or twice off the bench. This team is not getting better and Vizquel does ntohing to turn it around. The sad part about this season is how we are missing may teams top notch pitchers and still can not win. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) If Pierre reaches base and Vizquel doesn't hit-and-run, then that would be a prime example of bad managing. He will be bunting. I have no problem with Vizquel playing but I really am very tired of some canned type of line-up that has not worked for the last two season that guillen keeps shoving down our throats. I really believe after watching this team that RHH can not hit RHP and LHH can not hit LHP. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) That a boy, keep up the great work. It amazes me how much people overvalue our players on here. Next thing you know, people will say we can get Adrian Gonzalez for Morel and Viciedo! What type of free agent will he be? If he is a Type A or B that is the caliber of prospect you start with then you determine his value to the other team as well. He has his shortcomings but he is still a solid catcher that has a world series on his resume. I do not know how he works with pitchers but they seem to be fine with him. He should get something decent in return, what that is I do not know but I hope it more than when KW has given away guys in the past. I paid big money for my season tickets if they f***ed up the revenue stream too bad I want to get my money's worth and pure salary dumps are BS. Either get a discussion worhty return or let him play it out and then walk. Same thing with Konerko.

QUOTE (WCSox @ May 17, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) If the Sox trade AJ before his 5-and-10 rights kick in, they'll recoup at least $4M. Even if they don't get much in return, saving that money makes a lot of sense from a business perspective. Especially when gate revenue is declining. I'm not necessarily advocating that the Sox do this (because I don't think that they're completely out of it... yet), but the "AJ isn't making that much money" line is a bad argument. If Kenny does later decide that the season is lost, paying AJ $6.75M is a horrible business decision. Not if he declines arbitration and leaves via free agency and nets the Sox a pick or two. He hit over .300 last year.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) Reds win 2 out of 3 vs. STL, and are now in 1st place in the NL Central. I guess its the first time since July that the Cards weren't in first. I know its only mid-May, but the Reds have been popular sleeper picks the last couple years, maybe this is the year they can hang in there until September. They could be a good White Sox trade partner

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) I have a question maybe you Chicagoans can answer...why does it seem like there are hardly any games on WGN anymore? The Sox seem to be once every 2 weeks and the Cubs are on maybe twice a week CW or whatever network they think they are.

Here goes my two cents... I agree with SS2K in that you need to see where we go from here. The confusing part to me is ok MIB is dead that is why they show us the Jack/Kate/Locke scene from season one but then how is his knowledge passed on to build the wheel and what not. I wish we would have gotten a deeper sense of this. I did like the black/white - science/faith storyline shoved in our face. The Claudia group (they were speaking Latin and Claudia is a Roman name) were not the first people to come to the island as the "mother" gave us the old "it always ends the same" line. I think she could take the form of smokie thus her killing and pillaging the "Others" from this episode. The mother is egyptian as the game she gave MIB was egyptian and I think the weaving was egyptian thus the hieroglypics, statue, etc. were already on the island before last night's episode. My problem with this was, how did she get her role. One thing I forgot was smokie and Ben had hte run in last season at the temple. I wonder why smokie did not kill him there..........

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 12, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I'm talking about his season overall. He's got one good pitch. And it's hardly a dominant one. To be a closer or good reliever, the main thing to do is throw strikes, which is what most if not all Twins pitchers are good at. -

Hitters 5-7 were 0-11 and the White Sox had 7 baserunners....all you need to know. If the offensive philisophy is not addressed this team will continue to be an absolute drag to watch. Other teams do not seem to roll over and die like the Sox do during games where 8-10-12 men are retired in a row? -

This team really is destined to sit around 5 games below .500 for the season as the offense just can not get anything going consistently. Kotsay should never play due to a match up as match ups are irrelevant with him. He also should never bat 5th but ozeroo keeps slotting him there. As bad as Quentin is going, There was no reason to play kotsay over him for matchup purposes which was the origianl intent. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) AJ is a terrible #2 hitter. Actually he's just a terrible hitter, period. He should bat 7th and as bad as Teahen has been I still think he should bat 2nd...no real reason why. With the bullpen being fresh, Danks should not be in this game if he does not have it as it appears by this thread that he does not. -

If Teahen, Kotsay and AJ can not hit Carl Pavano they have no business being the team. Same thing with Beckham, Quentin and when he plays Nix against the likes of Dana Eveland. The bullpen should be used today to its fullest extent with the day off tomorrow. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Really? That would be an odd scenario. Could see it happening, just surprising and odd. Lee is a free agent who may end up similar to Dye if he does not turn it around offensively although he can still play defense.
