  1. When Quentin is on the DL in May and Jones is starting in right and Kotsay at DH things will get ugly around here. Why do the White Sox players need so much time off or breathers? Nix and Vizquel better never DH. Please DH Teahan, Beckham or Ramirez. The bright side is it does leve an opening for a bat to be acquired. Here is the other real bright side. CJ can make the team, be able to catch and then AJ can DH a couple of times a week to get the big bat of Castro in the lineup.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Sadly, this seems like a situation where Ozzie wants to show he's smarter than everyone. I'm fine with that, as long as he's held accountable. Why would he be....although I think he should. He still thinks Wise was the right move as was Mackowiak in center. If Jones/Kotsay post s*** numbers, they trade for Dunn in June or July hopefully. For $1M, bringing in Thome is a no brainer and then you can Carlton Fisk him in June if he is sucking.
  3. Peyton Manning is everything that the media and Brett Favre want you to think Brett Favre is. Payton Manning is the reason the colts are that good. Drew Brees looked like s***.
  4. The fact that Kotsay and Vizquel are going to get these at bats and that Nix or Lillibridge may make the team over Thome make me really question KW and I think this is Guillen putting it on the line. Hope it works out.
  5. Didn't the Angels have 9 guys hitting .300 last year Sox need to find 9 new guys in their lineup to do this. Sounds like a theory destined to fail.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) What? Whatever you think of Turner as a head coach, the dude is a fantastic offensive coordinator. He made alex smith look promising for christ's sake Norv is better than ron but seeing as they fired his brother I am pretty sure he would pass on the bears.
  7. Well the SB coverage out of the NFC will be resugerence of the city of NO and comparing it to Haiti or Brett Favre. I really hate the unsportslike sports coverage of the sports world now a days. Go Colts...I guess The brothers Turner gotta have photos of someone. It is amazing how much a role coaching has in football......we get hit in the nuts twice with a turner brother and lovie.
  8. Niemi making a huge bid to be the number 1 guy as Huet seems to be unable to limit the damage when he is off. Seabrook and the defense in general has been bad today. Byf does a lot of standing around as well.
  9. This is a great hire. Guys that have HC experience are always big in my book. This guy actually had success as a head coach as well.
  10. Howard Stern was talking about going on Conan next week. That would be epic.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) It is not a dead-end job when you have Jay Cutler and the young wide-outs the Bears have. If I were a young up and comer this job would be a pretty good one to show-case my skills and potentially move up to a head coaching gig (whether in Chicago replacing Lovie or somewhere else). Plus, an OC in CHicago will get pretty much free reign to run there side of the ball which is exactly what a real good offensive mind would want. I actually think, outside of the clear risk with Lovie only being there for a year, that the Bears OC position is a real good job. And I should point out if the OC does good and is young and the Bears go hire a Cowher after the season, well, Cowher might darn well keep the OC (if he's good) because Cowher's focal point and likely whomever the Bears hire as an HC will be the defense. I agree. With the potetial at wideout/TE and a Forte bounce back there are thigns to work with there. The rumor around town is that the OC needs to run a Lovie desired offense and is thus a dead end job. You get an OC that does a good/great job and they can replace lovie as lovie is not going to be extended for what he is making, no way in hell. The whole situation is lovie cya.
  12. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Mike Tice? I'd be alright with that as our O-line coach. Not sure about as the OC. Honestly, I really don't know much of his history other than as the Vikings coach. I never even thought about him as a candidate. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,6522823.story He was good with vikes before he started scalping his super bowl tickets. Everyone is saying that the OC job is a deadend job as everyone will be gone next year but a good OC could replace Lovie as you know the bears will look for any reason to go cheap with their next hire so it will be a guy that will nto have a staff.
  13. Paul Sullivan said the cubs are kicking the tires on Dye as a 4th OF/platoon with fukodome. Is fukodome one of the bigger busts in recent memory? I think Sullivan said he hit .259.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Zampese interviewing with the Bears for 2nd straight day. Sounds like he's meeting Cutler today. Be glad you do not live in Chciago the commentary around here regarding the Bears coaches and the organization is just plain sad. The nugget I heard today was that Ron Turner was told by Lovie that he was fired because the defense was the fall guy last year......great rationale. Turner felt that if he was to go, everyone should go. Also the restraints placed on the coordinators are making them bigger puppets, especially on offense, then they were in the past. They are not even looking at legitmate candidates anymore, just guys that can fit into what Lovie wants done. I am not sure either coordinator they are looking at now has ever been part of a winning team. I am not talking about winning the superbowl, I am talking about winning one playoff game in their current positions. The Jim Haslett conversations were disheartining as he is the kind of guy that could have turned the defense around. Viable options are dropping out or not even interviewing left and right. Oh and Tommy Harris has let everyone know he will be a beast next year........the only way I see this happening is if it is a contract year.
  15. With the rotation the White Sox have I think 7 relief pitchers is too many. Every starter should go 6 innings just about every time out there.
  16. Ozzie Guillen does not use two catchers in the same game period. He does not even replace one for the other unless it is the bottom of the 9th and the game is on the line...and then that is a rarity If Flowers was on this team he would play once a week and end up with 100 or so at-bats. Look at Brian Anderson to see how this helps progress a career. There is nothing Flowers can not learn playing everyday in AAA that he would at the MLB level. Flowers was not going to DH unless CJ was a platoon guy that could catch in a pinch.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) How long was it at USC before the smoke really started for Carroll? Reggie Bush I guess........it seemd to me that there was always soemthing there.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) What makes you think the same stuff won't eventually come out about Saban and Meyer? I am not a fan of either but thus far thre hasn't been the smoke that leads to a fire and you would think that especially with Saben that you would have heard something by now.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) He is an exceptional defensive mind. You guys aren't giving him enough credit and he really didn't fail with the Jets/Patriots. Was he a huge success no, but to call him a failure is inaccurate. The guy is a very good coach. I called him average not a failure. I am not sure he is good enough though to make Seattle a winner. His ability to recruit is his best asset and this means nothing in the NFL.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) Yup. I can't think of a single NFL coach who's won multiple championships and then later been proven to be breaking the rules. Wasn't Bill Bellichek suspended for breaking some sort of rule a couple of years back?
  21. I am rolling through season 3 and to get to SS's point if I am Jack before I do surgery on Ben, I ask him, what the F is this place and what is going on. I forgot all about Locke's random blowing things up and killing people. It kind of makes sense now.
  22. I would like to see Huet win a game once. I do not think the defense of the Hawks will give him the opportunity but he has lost more games than he has won.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) I was chatting with my buddy on Saturday (while playing bball) who works in the USC athletic department. He told me that prior to accepting the bowl game for this season (against BC) USC offered the NCAA a 5 year post-season ban (which would have started this year) and a loss of scholarships. That tells me something bad is about to go down. Now maybe the NCAA turned it down because it was too large of an offer but either way making that sort of offer to the NCAA says all I need to know. You keep living in make believe world Brian. Pete Carroll got great players anually and won one championship. The media loved him and the southern cal thing. I think he is an average coach that will be back in college in a couple of years. USC got all of the hoopla and pagentry but at the end of the day he is nowhere near the coach Saben, Tressell, or Meyer are and that will be eveident very soon.
  24. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Housing slump or not, $300K won't get you into anything worth inhabiting in Beverly. Totally depressng to know I'll never in my life be able to afford a house in the neighborhood I grew up in. Not true. There is plenty to be had for under $300K.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) Thats what I was thinking as well. Also, they have been so dominant, he has nowhere to go but down. Its not easy to repeat 7 straight BCS bowl trips. Their fans aren't as crazy and demanding as some other top programs, but its easy to start getting used to being that good Jim tressel isn't going anyewhere.
