If the White Sox hit they will win the division. Last night is exactly why they may not.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) No, Edwin Jackson pitched a whopping 2 innings in the World Series http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/pitchi...se&type=reg It went Kazmir-Shields-Garza-Sonnanstine I believe Ouch so the Sox beat Garza and lost to Sonnanstine.......

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) You guys following the Tiger games crack me up. When are you gonna believe we're toast? We're 5-6 in our last 11. We STILL have done nothing to pick up any ground. Last night's game was horrible. Why do you give a s*** and who are you to tell anyone anything. Your obvious hatred of the White Sox cracks me up as you spend more time on this board than anyone telling us this and that while being as clueless as anyone.

I thought he had a decent year but nothing outstanding. Didn't he pitch in game 3 with Garza in game 4?
-
Jackson at 67 pitches through 3.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Do you mean Royals lead? That's what it says.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) KC already up 5-0 in the 3rd against DET. Edwin Jackson taking a beating, and Greinke is rolling (2 IP, he's struck out 5, given up 1 hit). If the Sox can win a game tonight, we're back where we were 24 hours ago (5.5 out). I have posted in regard to this game in three different threads.
-
Edwin Jackson getting beat much worse than Floyd last night. 5-0 Royals top 3 with Zach looking good. Olivo with a 3-run shot. Tigers must have the same advance scouts as the Sox.

Bunting is only good agaisnt an ACE or when the batter sucks and the next guy up is a really good hitter with men is scoring position and the runner on base is a smart base runner. Bunting to get to a .280 power hitter is stupid in my book especially if the bunter is fast an unlikely to ground into a double play.

Good to see Bloomquist and Callaspo hit another team. Grienke with K's in the first.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) The Angels got absolutely screwed tonight by the umps. Nick Green got 5 strikes. Angel Hernandez was in two places at once? Griffey get 5 in the Sox game although only one was actually called a strike. Umpiring in baseball is atrocious.

Bunting for this years team is worthless. My feeling is Guillen is thinking that if the defense and health of the rotation are there next year an enemic offense will be fine.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Found this cool website that shows how tough it would be to take the division now, we have to go 13-3 just to have a 50-50 chance of winning it If we finish: % chance of playoffs 16-0 99.7% 15-1 95.4% 14-2 79.1% 13-3 49.5% 12-4 18.1% 11-5 2.8% 10-6 0.1% 9-7 or worse 0 http://www.sportsclubstats.com/MLB/America...l/WhiteSox.html If the Sox learn to hit they will win the division.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Do you guys think Minnesota is going to steal the division in the final year of the s***dome? Are the Twins the ones who will overcome the choking Tigers? Don't you actually have to be good to choke? 2005 was almost a choke job but the Injuns were playing incredible ball as well. The Rockies now would be a choke job if the Giants swept them and then if the Giants lost to the cub, that would be a choke job. The 2006 Tigers was a choke job in the World Series.

Do pitchers effectively even come back from torn labrums. What ever happened to Ben Sheets?
-
Tigers will sign him and he will win two games down the stretch.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) I'm not sure exactly how that works, especially with the call up this year. I believe Sept call-ups do not impact his service time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) I prefer to think of it as a differential. We have 2 more with SEA, and DET has 2 more with KC. Gaining one game would be good - that could be the Sox going 2-0 and DET going 1-1, or the Sox going 1-1 and DET going 0-2. Either one works. Meantime, we need to hope MIN can lose a few as well. I want Min to stay in it, they have 7 against Det. The Tigers play Cleveland 3 times and Royals 2 times other than that, it is Twins 7 times Sox 6.......they have a game in hand. The Sox play Cleveland 3, Royals, 3, Tigers 6, Twins 3, Seattle 2 The Twins play Royals 6, Sox 3, Tigers 7, Cleveland 1 The team that gets hot wins the division......again if the Sox hit they will win as their rotation is pitching better than the others.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:41 AM) KC is playing really good ball right now. I wouldn't be suprised if they win a couple more vs Detroit. That being said, we really need to take these next 2 vs Seattle. The Sox pitching can win them the next 17 games. If this team especially two of Dye, Rios or Quentin, hit at all, the Sox will win this division. I know I am just a small town girl living in a lonely world looking to get on a midnight train going anywhere but what the hell.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) Thought it had some interesting bits in it; On another note, how many of you want us to pick up his option for next season from what they've seen on him so far? He is as ideal a number 5 for a team that hopes to contend as there is.

Stars aligning????? Sox missed Weaver, Lackey and King....Detroit was given a gift by Toronto as they needed to push back Halladay to face the Yankees for no reason, jagoffs......Grienke pitches Thursday against Detroit and the Sox miss him.......Peavy is back........ There is hope in cubville as they think they can take down the Cards and Giants, are behind 3 teams and 5.5 out. These next two games are wher the hope rests..... Why do they keep doing this to me?

Has a KW mid-season move backfired more than Rios?

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Can we stop saying this? I know believing so is convenient because it absolves Rios from being horrendous and Peavy from not pitching in early September, but it's not as if Williams was ignoring 2009. I know it's an excuse because, look at in these terms -- if Rios was performing well and we were within a few games of the division lead with Peavy set to return, would people not say that Williams was thinking of 2009? Of course they would. But now that Rios has looked terrible, we're 6 out of the division, and Peavy isn't pitching, we can conveniently throw out the "[they] were mostly for 2010." Obviously they're important players for 2010 and beyond, but to ignore this season is foolish. If Peavy didn't get hit with the line drive he would have made 3 MLB starts by now. Sadly neither Peavy or Rios would have really helped an offense that is incapable of scoring runs...I know Rios is playing like crap but he is right in line with the other unperformers offensively. These moves were made beacuse of the positive long term impact they would have as well as the positive impact they could have this year. -
Field Turf at Soldier Field?
Harry Chappas replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Bears pay nothing to play there and get all of the revenue from theoir games. The sweetest of sweetheart deals. The Park District could care less what the field conditions are for the Bears. Remember when New England installed Field Turf in two weeks. The point was brought up to the Bears and they said the CPD would have to pay for it. The park district will not do it. Why the Bears don't........they are still the Bears. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) There are few finer men than Derrick Brooks who have played pro football in the last two decades, but does he have anything left? A player with his pedigree, his class, his humility, his character, his leadership is currently out of work...the only reason a team would not have him on their roster by now is he just can't do it anymore. I hate that, because DB is one of my all time favorite non Bear players, and would love to see him help this team. I just don't know if he can (at least on the field). Brooks is a cover 2 genius. I am not a fan of Urlacher by the way. This is an ideal situation for Brooks as he knows that defense as good as anyone.
