QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) It's a bit like listening to Kermit the frog, isn't it? Any muppet would work. It is funny to listen to Chip Carey now as he is tolerable but was just as bad with the cubs. I somewhat think the cubs prode them into this or these guys really get jacked up on the cubs rather qucikly as neither were cub fans before taking over the job.

Artie Lange vs. Joe Buck's on JB's Live HBO show
Harry Chappas replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in SLaM
Lang admitted it was a PR thing that HBO asked him to do if the show sucked before it was even a news story. I bet Lang gets an HBO special now becuase of it. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) Palmeiro before he started steroids, When was that? Reggie Jackson was a second ballot HOF'er and is comparable to sosa in my opinion. Don't tell me about October because Jack Morris is the best October player in the last forty years.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) I've never thought anyone could realistic hit .400 this late into a year before now. I don't think he'll do it, but if Vegas or Atlantic City had odd of him hitting .400 at 10-1 I'd probably throw $100 down on that. It is only May 15th for him. Didn't Berkman go into June last year. If Ichiro could not hit .400 nobody will. Mauer does not get the speed hit.

Quentin "one bad step" from being lost for season
Harry Chappas replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The broken wrist hitting a moveable object and now this. There is your DH for he next 15 years hopefully. -
The media looks really bad on this guy as sosa was a complete product of steroids and the media never even bothered to question it. Bonds had a similar type frame and got huge but he was always a good hitter and there was always talk about him. sosa for whatever reason was given the benefit of the doubt. If Hineybird wanted to make a name for himself that wouldhave been the way to do it. The brown paper bag with cash in it was never really as issue. McGwire was a good home run hitter and he had the testro thing. sosa was always given a freee pass. The cork thing should have kept him out in my opinion along with the suspicion.

The thing that I am complaining about here is that the opportunity to see if there is anyone in AAA or AA that could produce anything, hell an average of .200 is an improvment is being wasted. When Quentin comes back Wise hopefully is let go. What was the benefit of anything Wise did this year? There was achance to get Kroeger or Coook at-bats and at least see what they have. Could they have a Ryan Ludwick type year, who knows. The fact that Wise replaces Dye or Podsednik is really an indictment of a very poor personnel decision by either KW or Guillen in that they would rather have the most worthless player to play for the Sox in as long as I can remember, he makes me wish for Julio Ramirez, rather than give a AAAA type guy a shot. Wise is not even an AAAA guy, how he has stuck around is amazing to me. KW really struggles to fill his bench as Julio Ramirez and Luis Terraro can attest to.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) In the first game of the DH Kroeger hit an 8th inning bomb off one of the better Red Sox prospects Hunter Jones. It's also sad that we can say Jeff Marquez had his best start of the year today. Really sad tht Wise is taking time away from any young player that may have any type of potential and could be showing this right now.

QUOTE (TLAK @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) Them rotten good for nothing grub just didn’t want to play yesterday. When they postponed the game I noticed it had just about stopped raining here on the south side but I thought maybe it was still raining up north. It stopped completely here about 8:30. I just looked at the hourly for Ohare and it stopped up there about the same time. In the hour ending 8:51 there was .17” of rain. In the next hour there was zero. If they had waited until 8:30-8:45, even 9:00, they could have gotten the game in. That would have been a 1-½ or so rain delay. The Reds played through 2:15 delay on the same night. After the game they pushed back Zambrano another full day. The evidence indicates they called it more due to their own selfish reasons than the weather. Weather alone, they could have gotten it in. The crowd would have been a tad out of control. Why was Zambrano pushed back?

They also gave up on Casey McGehee last year who while not playing well for them has made the Weeks injury an afterthought and is only 26 years old.

Predictions for Sox/Cubs Series
Harry Chappas replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) I predict that I will see a total of 13 innings from the 3 games combined. I will intentionally fall asleep during tonight's game and unintentionally fall asleep in my recliner during the other two. (This prediction is based on normal weather - rain delays may increase or decrease the number of innings I sleep through) Are you 80 years old? Two of the games are afternoon affairs. I think Zambrano rolls in game one and the next two the Sox should hit rather well. For some reason I think Lee and Bradley will have big series. Cubs win 7-1 Sox win 8-5 Game 3.....either Sox win 2-0 or lose 13-2 -
Bryce Harper going to community college in 2009
Harry Chappas replied to maggsmaggs's topic in The Diamond Club
Michelle Wie failed to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open For some reason I felt that to be appropriate here -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) The question is...are the numbers of Soriano and Lee due to them getting old or is it due to their technique? Are Soto's numbers due to, um, hell I'm not even going to say it, or is it due to technique? Aside from Soto, there's not a whole heck of a ton of prime-aged talent in that lineup right now. Aramis Ramirez yes, but he's hurt. Theriot and Fontenot are their young guys and while they can be solid pieces and occasionally get hot, it's silly to expect them to carry an offense. Their problem is that their big money, big pop guys aren't producing. But 2 of their big money, big pop guys are approaching their mid 30's. Aren't Theriot an Fontenot over 30?

LSU (Jared Mitchell) playing now on ESPN.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Looking at stats, the account of this AB, and from what I've read via scouting reports and such... yeah, I'd say it's a safe assumption that he has a tendency to look for the walk instead of hitting the ball. Which is fine if he draws the walks. If he is up there looking at strike three all of the time there is a problem. There is nothing wrong with going up to bat looking for a walk and then swinging late in the count. Bobby Abreu and rickey henderson made careers out of it. With his speed that is exactly what he should do. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) If Contreras puts up two more real good starts and we are still 5-7 games back, it is the time to trade him. You might actually be able to get something good for him to if he is dominant. The Quentin timeline will also be better set by than. If Pods continues the work he has done over this time, he, Jose, Dye and Dotel could really get a haul.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) They could always do one of those day games at Wrigley night games at the Cell type deals. NYY/NYM did it a few years back and ESPN covered it for 4 days non-stop That was my point.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) I don't have a problem with him playing if Dye is out, after all, Quentin is hurt and we need to play who's available. But not batting 5th. Wise should never be hitting higher than 7th. Even in the NL. There is a problem. He is not good at any aspect of baseball. Somebody, anyone in the top 10 prospect list could do what he does and be younger and have a ceiling of some nature. He should not be on this team batting 1st, 5th or 9th...ever. What would Jordan Danks do any worse?????? I vote for Kroeger, Ward or Restovich I do not care what their numbers currently are, they would outperform Wise. I do not think people understand how bad Wise is currently playing. The guy is batting .138 for god's sake, try and comprehend that......

Bump back the 26th to a night game and play at 11 in the morning at Wrigley. Red Line doubleheader, Ligue style.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) At least 1 Chicago team has sense enough to cut bait! Did you demand the firing of Vaughn Joshua a few years back?
-
Nobody could fail as badly as D'Wayne Wise. Anybody that was brought up could do exactly what he does. There is no debate. Wise has done nothing all season and therefore anyone could do the same. A younger player may actually succeed a little, who knows. The credability of the KW/OG is taking a hit on this one he really adds nothing to this team.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Nice win started by 3 of the young guys in the 9th. Brian Anderson is quietly becoming an option again in my book. He had a nice series. For a big sereis the youger guys semed to have better AB's than some of the vets. While the results don't prove it, they did just fine. The fact Thorton only pitched in the blow out tells me all I need to know about Guillen's handling of the pen. Maybe Thorton is the peice of a blockbuster trade and they do not want to risk anything with him?????? I have no problem moving Jenks although I would have liked to have seen him pitch in a blowout as he has not thrown in about a week and really hasn't thrown often in the last two or three weeks. Nice win and the Sox outplayed the Tigers. They really should have won all five.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Is Jenks available? He was warming up last night if they tied it in the 9th he was coming in.. The fact Thorton was in neither of the last inning loses in this series and if he does not pitch today shows that Guillen is so preoccupied with the leftie/rightie s*** that it is insane. Dye better not be in right for the 9th. Outside of Buerhle , who was left in the game too long, the pitching has done its job in this series and outpitched Detroit in every game...even last night. Guillen needs to use this pen more. Dotel is gone after this year, burn him out.
