Let's see what the advanced scouting has to say about the guy hitting .115 Clayton may be in the pen shortly as his last two outings have not been good. Oakland teed off on him. -

Wanna know why the Sox are inconsistent. The pitcher walked two guys and neither AJ and Konerko made him throw a strike. With an 2-0 count they should looked for a pitch to drive...not the Sox they look for a good pitcher's pitch strike to swing at and end the inning. He could have been at 40 pitches for the inning, he is at 33. He will have 60 after 6. For no other reason other than to get to the pen as Bonderman is making his first start in while tonight and will most likely be on a pitch count. The Sox refuse to let a pitcher get himself in trouble. Wouldn't you think that this was discussed with the hitters? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Pods has just been a machine in the 1st inning. Imagine if he was here last year with Quentin and Cabrerra. I asked Williams at Soxfest if he thought of bringing back Pods when the Rockies gave him the ML deal and he flat out said absolutely not... I am not a Pods fan but he is what this team needs. -

BTW I caught Alexi Ramirez home run yesterday. I thought it would be the omen needed to change things around....hence my Wes Whisler hate.....really put a damper on a cool White Sox moment -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) So in other words, your opinion is based on one game you watched? And the stats are meaningless? But for the record I'm with you in the camp that says calling up Beckham was a mistake. Its just that, now that he's here, he needs to play to develop. Pretty much, ya. 1 run in 8 innings and a WHIP of 1 taking out the Minnesota game, that is what I have seen from Gooble. Whisler has a higher WHIP and ERA Really splitting hairs for two guys that are not important. Oh the game has started. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) Gobble has a 7.00 ERA, and a 1.56 WHIP. He has allowed more H+BB than IP in 5 of his 8 outings. Opponents have an .829 OPS against him. He's walking 5 batters per 9 innings. He's also gotten 20 fly ball outs against only 8 ground outs (0.40 GB/FB), which is a recipe for disaster when the Cell warms up. He's given up 2 HR already in 9 IP, which is not a particularly good ratio. He's just not getting it done. Not that Whisler is, but, Whisler has pitched twice, having one OK outing, and one bad one. I'd rather see what Whisler can do given the chance than keep running Gobble out there when he was a failure last year in KC, wasn't all that great in Charlotte, and is bad again now in Chicago. I saw them pitch yesterday and Gobble looked servicable as he had in his previous few outings which off the top of my head I can not recall each individual stat and Whisler couldn't throw a strike and killed the momentum in the game. Outside of one outing where Gobble had to "wear it" he has looked good to me. I really could care less which stays and which goes maybe a statistical analysis of their careers starting at age 5 will change my mind can you dig that up for me. I think this is the least of their worries. Also Thome should have played yesterday and Saturday over Beckham, an opinion that I fear could get me ridden out of town as god forbid someone not annoint Beckham the second coming. I understand Robin Ventura and Ryne Sandberg began their careers a combined 0-70. This seems like a panic move to me. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) It also led to the pitching staff throwing more pitches and more stress on their arms. Eldred, Baldwin, Sirotka, and Parque all were never the same. I'm not blaming Valentin, he was a good player when the Sox acquired him and got a little worse every season, but it certainly didn't help them. Without Valentin there is no Eldred

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) I'd have to think its Gobble, especially since he's the 3rd lefty (and he's been pretty bad). After yesterday though I think it is Whisler he ended any chance ofcoming back. Gobble outside of one outing has been doing good, I believe. Aren't both of these guys 27? -
Murph defending Zambrano and Lilly a week or so back made my ears bleed. I'd like to hear McNeil in the morning or afternoon drive as he is much better the others. Mully and Hanley are good but they are kind of bland. Boers has been incoherent as he has taken to simply making noises with his mouth and following whatever opinion Bernstein lays out there, except for horse racing, than he has a point. Bernstein is treading down as well and I am not certain why.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) In my opinion, that we especially suck at hitting unkown pitchers and at situational hitting underscores the fact that there is something fundamentally wrong with the approach and preparation going on with the Sox. That is 100% correct and both things that the hitting coach is responsible for. -
Dye should be headed there for Bailey and one of Taveras or Dickerson. They need a big bat in that line-up and they are right there in the central. Imagine if they drafted Beckham. s*** trade them Colon and Fields for Bailey. In the NL Colon and Fields would thrive.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Can we just change this thread to "Brian Anderson is a debacle"? It has taken 4 years but I now must confess......he sucks.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) having seen something like this posted at least 3 or 4 times yesterday, and having responded to each that it is not accurate, I figured I'd just create a thread so I could keep my sanity. Josh Fields is NOT the only player on the sox hitting well right now. In fact, it's not just Josh and Pods. Please see the following: Over the last 15 games (not including yesterday): Dye: .302/.380/.651/1.031 AJP: .400/.438/.556/.994 Ramirez: .328/.371/.431/.802 Podsednik: .317/.369/.417/.786 Fields: .317/.349/.390/.739 So please, no more Josh Fields man-love about him being the ONLY guy on our team producing right now... Those other four guys are not on the verge of losing their job and possibly careeer to a player that may or may not be better than Josh Fields. My personal belief is that Beckham could not have been called up at a worse time as the tension has to be somewhat high in that clubhouse.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:33 AM) Chris Dickerson's D looked really pretty out their tonight. He looks like a really good player.

Sadly Pods is the only thing close to a lead off hitter that the Sox have. There is no second choice at this point in time. Should this team continue to fall, there is no reason to not bring up Danks and see what he could do as it could be no worse than Wise. I think it would be hard ot be any worse than Wise.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Why are they leaving Dotel out there, especially pitching for a second night in a row? Get Whisler some more work or something. Why was Dotel even brought in the last two days? Complete waste of innings. Linebrink was warming up last night as well. -

The Advance Scouting for hitters may be worse than for pitchers as the A's seemed to not have any problem scoring with a group of guys that were hitting under .200. Does this team not go over anything? -

QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Maybe if he bunted more, the guys behind him would hit HRs. I get your point I am a dumbass that knows nothing. Beckham is GOD and we are scoring at will. I will keep my opinion to myself as obviously I was wrong. Adam Kennedy probably would have homered and Holliday would have as well and then Giambi would have K'd -
