  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) Miles hit over .300 in a lot of at bats last season. To say he sucks would be false, in my opinion. cubs don't offer the protection the cards did in the lineup last year. cubs fans I know are not happy with him at all.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) Another year where we're at a disadvantage every game that is started by our 5th starter. The tell tale sign in this series is scoring 1 run off of the starters for Texas. This team really needs to become more consistent on offense. The guy last night shut them out for 5 innings and they were shut out essentailly for 5 again tonight.
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) What? If you have no control you can not throw inside. Understand if you try and throw inside and miss your spot, so will our pitcher.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) I don't think any of the pitches were aiming. None of them. Aiming or not then they need to focus on throwing outside and not attempt to come inside then. Lillibridge needs to be gone for a mediocore outfielder with potential.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) So they hit 3 of our hitters, and possibly broke Dye's hand...and not one retaliation pitch thrown. Seems to be a reoccurring theme with Sox / Rangers for the entire time Ozzie has been with the Sox. X-Rays negative on Dye. I tuned in in the bottom of the 6th and jsut saw the replay.
  6. Huff and Hawk talking like the Sox faced a good pitcher last night. Enough with the Lillibridge and Contreras already. Not sure what you do but this division is up for grabs and they need to do something.
  7. QUOTE (almagest @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) You don't. If we were facing C.C. or Johan or something, I could see giving Getz a rest. But not ALL left-handers. Even if Getz doesn't hit lefties well, he can't possibly be worse than Lillibridge. Were Getz, Pods, Thome and A.J. 6 for 6 against lefties?
  8. MLB Network is great to watch during a Sox game when they are frustrating as s*** to watch but they fell in love with the yanks and maybe rightly so. Pods looked better as the game went on, his speed can't hurt. Getz looked really good. Sick of the cyification of Eaton, Cyasaurus and Feldman in a little over a week.
  9. Nolan Ryan was great on certain days obviously but he could not carry a team. Longevity is what made him what he is not necessarily the results.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) My Crazy Crackpot Theory: This season ends with a nuclear explosion... followed but the passengers of Flight 815 walking of the plane in LA. What do they do about next season or is the show cancelled?
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) Awful play all around on the winning goal. Kane should have been covering the point when Barker broke to the net hard as Kane was skating laterally, but didn't (maybe he didn't see him). I will add that it was an awful pass by Versteeg, under no pressure, right into the skates of Kane. That started the turnover. He wasn't open, and you're passing backwards with a D breaking and lots of Canucks in the slot. Just terrible by Steeger. As for Barker, it wasn't the worst mistake to rush to the net with Versteeg with control. I have more of a problem with his backcheck, which I think will go overlooked comparatively. First off he stopped skating one stride after reaching the stanley cup playoffs logo. Then, his only concern coming back, since he will have no play in the 2 on 1, is to beat the 3rd guy to the net and be looking for the rebound to clear. He has Salo beat to the net by just a bit, then trails off towards the right post (skates over the right hash) for no apparent reason. If he skates down the middle of the ice he's got the rebound into the corner, instead he has to stop, flail and lose his balance trying to get a stick on the puck that is just barely to the left of center, and he just misses it. Just so disappointing to lose on that type of play. 3 things went wrong to lead to the goal. OT was right there. I guess the CBC feed had a good shot of Bowman ripping into Campbell to Tallon after the EN goal. Apparently it was a bad bounce, but puck was blocked by the boards so no one saw it. They need to stay out the box. All those penalties were earned. Keep your stick out of people's faces. Toews must be really hurt or sick. 13:46 of ice, not on the ice in crunch time. Consider me very worried about it. Game plan in the zone needs to continue to be getting traffic to the net and garbage goals, 2/3 were those tonight. You aren't going to beat Luongo very often when he can square and see the shot. WOW!!!! Darren Pang was on the SCORE this morning and basically spent 20 minutes saying the exact same thing you did above. The Bowman thign was intriguing. I get the feeling there could be something done with him over the offseason.
  12. I could not get over how bad of a coach VDN is. The inbouds plays had no creativity at all. I am not a huge NBA fan but you can inbounds the ball into the backcourt can't you? The Bulls are a better team than the Celtics right now. It would be a shame for them to lose. Rondo is a nice player that is being made into a legend becasue nobody is doing anythign about it. Somebody needs to challenge him at least a little.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) I think you've got stuff messed up. Farraday started thinking he COULD change the past, we found out he could not. He was always meant to be killed by his own mother (Eloise), hence why we saw the scene where she got so upset at Widmore after she sent her son off to die at the island. She knew it would start a chain of events that would eventually lead her to killing her own son... she already knew that would happen. For what... I guess we find out soon enough. A couple of things What did we know of Radsinsky and Horace prior to this season if anything, I am forgetting. The Jack airplane rides and the Locke death time line do not make sense. When Ben killed Locke, Ben told him that Jack had booked what appeared to be his first ticket to try and crash, then Ben kills Locke. Yet when Jack reads the obit and goes to the funeral home to see dead Locke he states to Kate that he has been flying for some time t otry and crash. Where are Bernard Rose and the rest of the gang? Did the firey torches do them in and who shoot those torches and whose boats were those..I assume we will find out in time. Last weeks episode was such a waste.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Baseball Tonight was pretty heavy on the Ryan/ Clemens comparisons. I had to shut it off. Those dopes over blow everything to epic proportions. I thought Grieneke was more of a finese pitcher, more like a Mike Mussina....oh wait the comparison needs to be more dramatic. The MLB Network is great. The cub fan from Comcast whose name is escaping me, Sean Casey, Barry Larkin and Al Leiter are really good. I'd like to see kruk go over there.
  15. Wow did that bullpen implode. Why does this thread cease to exist when the cubs are playing bad. Lil Fontenot during hte Hawks game was classic at third and the enemic D'Backs offense really showed how mediocorethe cubs can be. Dempster is coming down to earth and Marmol really needs to regain his stuff or it will be a long year. The best approach with Marmol is to wait him out.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) I agree with this. I've taken my kids (8 and 6) to quite a few stadiums and nothing compares to the fun they have at the Cell. That Fundamentals deck is really nice. It's a good excuse to get to the game early and they dig it. Great thread, thanks for the tips. Looking forward to my yearly pilgrimage now that I have the 411 on that breaded steak sandwich. Man that looks good... The fundamentals are great borderline incredible. Unfortunately you are limited in being able to watch the game.........I guess I am being selfish. The Section 149 BBQ stand is awesome as I stated earlier. The lady Tuesday cut back on the portion but the normal lady gives you a nice sandwich. Also get a combo half brisket/half pulled pork and give her a little tip and it is meal well worth it. For $8 (tip included) it really was that good.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Yovani Gallardo has pitched 8 innings of 2 hit shutout ball, and the Brewers lead 1-0. The Brewers lone run? A Home run by Yovani Gallardo. I wish they would get Peavy and a healthy Hoffman.
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Tres out-o's. Ballgame... o. Well all right than. I thought it was like the 5th inning with the way Floyd was getting pounded.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Whatever. His average is lower than BA's, he sucks. The only issue keeping TCQ from being a superstar are the random bad at-bats. He is also not real good at judging fly balls. Other than he is the goods. What is the status of this game BTW? I am at work and jumping in and out of this thread trying to stir the pot. God Bless BA and hope for good health.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) the best part about criticizing one at bat by BA is that it's met with two pages worth of statistical rebuttal. The guy's a f***ing legend. Sasquatch. Brian Anderson and Patrick Kane are similar in that the ability is there and you just hope they, like the U.S. Army used to say, would be all that they could be. I like gents with blonde curly hair who are in with the honies.
  21. Alexi moves to Cf and Nix, Betemit or Beckham play short.... oh wait Owens is still around.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Here's the main problem I have with Anderson. He's just baseball-dumb. He has no concept of cutting down his swing on a fastball and just making contact or hitting a sacrifice fly. All he has to do is hit a ground ball or fly ball to the right side of the field. Brian just takes that big, looping swing on a 93 MPH fastball that he could take 100 times and he wouldn't make contact with once. No excuse not to score 2 runs in that situations with 2nd and 3rd, no outs. That is the M.O. of so many people on that team it is ridiculous. Dye swinging 2-0 yesterday and today after a pitcher was struggling to throw strikes. If the bullpen can do their job today the Sox should win without an issue.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) man, that had all the fixins of a BIG inning. That is a big inning for the White Sox. Unless there is a grand slam or 3 run homer in an inning, two runs are the best they can do. I am not joking by the way.
  24. I am a BA fan but he must bat ninth......he also needs to contribute though. That was a situation to succeed. Guillen is showing faith in BA and BA is letting him down which I find sad but is the norm for this team right now. He needs to cut down his swing.
