Garcia and Colon know how to pitch in the big leagues and are worth a shot. This is no different then the cubs hanging the hopes on Harden that they are. Those two and JC can really help out with the remaining guys throwing at AA until they are needed.

QUOTE (Steff @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) The cut attendance because they had to and doubled the price because the expense of the venue called for it. And let's not forget that all PROFITS from Soxfest go to CHARITY... The # of autographs given are up to the players, so go complain to them, and as for that media whore Ron Kittle, don't blame the Sox for the stupidity of people to buy his s***ty book and wait in line to get his autograph. Though I've gotta say... I'm not surprised at the b****ing. I remember when the Sox GAVE away free passes to the fest with the hotel room and people screamed that they didn't give away more.. and of course after that was there were too many people.. bla, bla, bla... No matter what they do it's never good enough. Autograph seekers kind of creep me out. I am talking about the people that look like they are there simply to get something to sell. That being said I really do not care about that aspect of the convention. The problem with the Palmer House is it is to spread out and really seems unorganized. I think someone within the Sox organization dropped the ball when they agreed to moved there as the cost is really not worht it. 2006 was an exception to the rule. I think the last two years were subpar there really is no continuity between that various exhibits and the first year I never even saw that huge room where the fundamentals were as well as another room. The venue is notgood for that type of convention as I felt the Hyatt was perfect.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) Yep, he supposedly was a pain in the ass last season in the Angels clubhouse. Figgins isn't cheap, so everyone thinking we'd trade Dye for Chone and then have a ton of money to spend is mistaken. I think Chone is a good player though and a perfect fit for this team...but I think the only way the Angels make this deal is if it's a straight up trade (since they hate to deal their prospects). I still think this team will add payroll if the sitaution is right. If they do not add payroll and have a bad year, I think a good number of people will cancel, I know I certainly will thin about scaling back.

There are a lot of people running around in circles here. There is no debate that on a talent level Dye is better than Bailey, Figgins or Willits. The thing is, the Sox have nobody that has any ability to lead-off and there are two guys (Abreu and Dunn) that could fill the loss of Dye somewhat easily. My question is why would either the Reds or Angels trade for Dye when they could sign Abreu or Dunn for possibly less money and not have to give up anything? Until these guys are off the market, Dye is not really that hot of a product. Everyone wants to write Dye off as aged and useless as they like to do with Konerko and Thome. While that could happen this year, they also could be productive and have a huge impact on the team. None of these guys seem to have the PED questions that could lead to a marked change in production. Owens leading off is scary enough to give up Dye for Figgins. I think OG and KW like Owens enough to not make this move. Figgins/Anderson/Abreu or Dunn is better than Fields/Owens/Dye.........that I think is the question here. You can also put Figgins in center and play Fields at third if defense is not a big thing. I also wouldn't mind bringing Cabrera back on a one year deal if Figgins is brought in.......well I have gone to long now and probably ruined any credabiltiy of my baseball knowledge with that line.

Still can't warm up to the venue. May go if they pull off an interesting move in the next week or so. The 10% season ticket price increase and lack of moves this offseason haven't really gotten me all that fired up to spending $50 for this.

How does Bradley get his deal comparedto this one? Man do the cubs give money away.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Rypien, Hostetler and Roethlisberger dont belong in the same sentence as Peyton and Young, and Eli has had 1 and a half good years. Im trying to figure out the definition of a fluke here I think the more impressive list is losing Super Bowl QB's Marino, Kelly, Unitas, Grossman etc.

Comcast Chicago is 410 and all I have seen is the 2004 Boston review. I have the Digital Classic Package so I am happy.

This team is awesome. Patrick Kane is scary good. Also I have to admit Quinville is great at using guys the right way and is making Tallon look pretty damn good. I really think this team should just stay put as it is for now. Late games and DVR are simply awesome as well. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) what does "any one can time 100 mph if they see it enough" mean? It means Kyle Farnsworth Gotta love Jenks. Should this all be 100% correct and I beleive it is, if he controls his weight, he will rewrite the record book as it relates to the stats of a closer. He is understanding how to pitch and that can only help. Oh well a good number of Soxtalk will have him traded for a really good Class A centerfielder.

The man card is being put aside for a minute. Anyone that watches the Biggest Loser or is wondering what losing weight can do for them, last night's finale (I DVR's and watched during breaks of the Hawks game BTW) was really cool. The chick that won actually has ended up being pretty good looking. The show actaully turned kind of soap operaish but the girl in the white hat won in the end and looked really good I actaully couldn't decide how hot she was. Anywho, as for myself I have been stagnate for a while J4L is going a bit to an extreme but I think it will help get the motivation going. I think coming out of the gate flying and getting instant results help in building a base for the grind. I am in the grind phase but I think I am going to go to an extreme here shortly....maybe a vegan thing for month.......oh god.....

If the Braves re-entered the Peavy sweepstakes they could really be something. I bet they get in on that now as Escober is expendable or does Escobar go in a package for Dye and Jenks??????

What are the NHL ramifications for going over the cap? How are the Rangers not over it or close to it? Also the Blackhawk W flag that was flying yesterday in the third balcony me throw up in my mouth. -
Worst Professional Sports Franchises Since WWII

Did I see the stat right that the football Cardinals had not won a playoff game since 1947 or was it they did not have a home game since 1947? That is epic if you ask me. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) Is Hendry promising Towers a position in the organization when the Padres eventually fire him? Why are so many teams willing to help out the cubs? It really is pathetic. Basically it will cost any team that is not the cubs $24M more than the cubs to acquire him.
-
If Santo got in, the late 60's cubs would have 4 HOF members that other than in 69 were not that good of teams. Something is there for me as to why he should not get in and I am not sure what it is. I also believe he was not well liked by the media or his peers. If his grand standing is not working then there is a reason why he is not in there and he needs to accept it. I have never heard someone politick more than him to get himself in. He almost feels like he is entitled to be in. I really think Billy Williams is keeping him out.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) Baseball - Pittsburgh Pirates Ice Hockey - Florida Panthers Football - Detroit Lions Basketball - Minnesota Timberwolves This is from WWII not the first gulf war. Other than the Lions those other franchises have had some level of success, some to a significant degree. s*** the Pirates have won as many playoff series as the cubs since 1989 and fought hard with the Big Red Machine in the 70's and had mermorable players and championships throughout. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Of course those high schoolers arent representing a professional organization, a city and a franchise when they make sexually suggestive comments. They also arent making them on TV in front of a million people. They were 100 percent correct in their actions. A couple of things (1) the television studio does not need to air that if the comments are that offensive as I assume it was not on live tv (I could be wrong) but why put a dolt like that on live tv and (2) a fine is sufficent here as it is in poor taste but the hit on Aaron Johnson is a tad bit more of an issue than that as well as otehrs taking a run at a guy. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) I’m noticing that some of the people who are vigorously against the Bailey Trade seem fond of getting Daniel “I’m older, have no control , and everyone’s whose tried to fix me has failed” Cabrera. I’m finding that slightly disconcerting. Jermaine Dye stays here in the Cabrera situation. As a numebr 5 he is fine. You kind of know what Cabrera will give you and there is a track record be that as it may but it is still there. Bailey costs one of the most productive outfielders in baseball and could be in AAA to start the season.

If Uribe doesn't accept arbitration last year who plays third?

Roberts and Daniel Cabrera are attainable much more easily. I think Roberts is a great one year fit until Beckham is ready. The rest of the options are meh..... How about Roberts and Furcal with Ramirez in CF or at 3B with Anderson in CF.
