  1. Until Griffey approves the trade none of the other pieces will be announced. I personally think Griffey is a bench insurance guy and the guy the Sox are looking to get is Bronson Arroyo for the pen and swing starter. I think he has a contract that is overprcied. Harang is injured isn't he? Griffey also could take Wise's spot. What I found interesting last night was in the top of the 8th Hawk was saying that he thought Wise would be an integral part to this team the remainder ofhte season. I think Konerko is going on the DL until 9/1.
  2. I do not believe that the farm system is that baron that KW can not make a trade I think it has to do with the fact that he is not going to overpay for a Brian Roberts or AJ Burnett. From the looks of it there appears to be some decent pieces down there. I never heard of Clayton Richard until a month or so ago and from what I have seen of him so far I see no reason why he could not be a servicable rotation guy. Poreda and Fields have MLB value as do a few other utility type guys I just don't think the Sox are going to gut the system for a rental.
  3. Have the Boston Red Sox just lost 4 of 5 at home I know they are good teams but these are the Sox, AT HOME? Did the Yankees just get beat pretty good by the O's twice? Tampa Bay lost 7 in a row not to long ago and sits atop the yanks and sox. The White Sox are not playing well right now but they are by no means done. A win tonight or tomorrow and they will be 3-4 at Detroit and Minnesota. I am fine with that. They need to beat he s*** out of hte Royals. After this weekend they play 16 of 19 at home and shoudl be getting some players back. I also think KW will make a move.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Sox won't deal Poreda unless they are getting something pretty special. They think very highly of Aaron. I was really impressed by Richard last night. He was twinkie'd to death but over-all I think his mound presence, control and quickness of work were impressive. Am I stupid for thinking he has more value than Poreda? Richard was a dual sport athlete until recently and while he is no Jeff Samardjia (sp?) I really liked what I saw in him.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) Holy cripes, Clayton Richard has one hell of an arm. I'm excited about what him, Danks, Floyd are going to do for the Sox over the next few years. I realize its just a few starts and I'm on the DVR (so I'm only into the top of the 5th) but he has a few different variations of the fastball and a very deceptive delivery (gets good sink on one of his FB's, plus has a very good looking changeup). He had Spahn as well on a close pitch. He seemed to get jobbed although he was always near the zone. I liked how quickly he worked and he seemed like he could really project into a nice pitcher he lookedot have a good upside.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) The scouting reports on Viciedo are mixed. He supposedly has put on a lot of weight and will probably be a 1B/DH. I read one report were they feel he will have a Livan Hernandez body. Scouting reports on cuban players do not seem to be really reliable or at least project all that accuratly. Although the Sox version of Omar Infante could be the exception to the rule.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives...deadline_1.html This is almost the exact scenario that I laid out a few days ago. The Red Sox pay Manny's salary, trade him to a contender for major league ready talent then swing a deal for Teixeira. The most interesting thing regarding that post is the Roberts to LAD. Would Cabrerra to the LAD with a Roberts package be back in play?
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) On paper, today's game is a massive blowout for the Twins. Hopefully that means we'll win. If they keep kicking our ass, this is a bad sign. Actually Vegas gives the Twins the home field edge and that is it -120 not nearly as big as I would have guessed. Using last night as a guide the game was even and the cubs were +160. Maybe there is a chance after all. I trust Vegas over all other experts as they put their money where their mouth is.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) And this is now, officially, the rant thread. Anyway, I think you are overstating Anderson's value a good bit. No I am not. He and Uribe have value is all I am saying yet they are dumped on for going 0-4. You look at the defensive miscues of this roadtrip wheather it is Fields, Swisher or Cabrerra and you see the need for the Uribe's and Anderson's of the world and how they can make a team better.
  10. Funny thing is that Uribe is a GG caliber player at the most important position on the team. His third base defense would be GG without a doubt. If you don't sing and dance and unnecessarily run into walls, forget about you. Anderson and Uribe add more to a team but because the press isn't blowing them, they get no respect at all. If Anderson was given the opportunity that Swisher has this season, the Sox would be a better team but the commercials and dugout highlites wouldn't be all that entertaining. s*** Reed Johnson is a poor man's Brian Anderson and he is loved by the cubbie nation...I know the stats don't show this but given the opportunity, Anderson would be. Christ, Jermaine needs to put MVP stats to get any type of recognition yet he has been one of the better hitting outfielders in the game while he has been here and possibly could be the most unappreciated Sox player in history or at least since Dick Allen or Albert Belle and no I am not joking. Where is the Greg Walker / Jim Thome love in regard to a new appraoch to going the opposite way. In the 8th inning Sunday he adjusted his swing to go to left and drove in two runs because of it, yet no new thread praising this. Thome needed to adjust and he has, now Swisher and Konerko need to do something. Thome understands what he needs to do and appears to be doing it unfortuately there is nobody behind him until they get to Ramirez. Why and the hell he is still batting 9th is beyond me.
  11. Hoping to win one of the last two and get things going in KC. Not putting a-lot of faith in Richard tonight at Minnesota, nothing against Richard as I have nothing to go by. The thing is losing in Minnesota is fine. Getting your tits lit up by the Royals (1-3 in the last 4) is unacceptable. The Sox will have played the Royals in 12 of 32 games on August 14th. That is the team they need to beat and beat soundly. Win one of the next three and go from there. The Twins have a killer road trip but they do get the Mariners a ton...
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) So Reed Johnson has one of the most illegal slides you'll ever see, and there's no interference call. He didn't even slide until past the base, and he hit Weeks well above the knees. I hate that steroid bastard. Yes but it was a nice hard borderline legal slide in my opinion. Those things help win ballgames like tonight. Also CC threw about 35 pitches that inning.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) Rickie Weeks pathetic defense opens the door for the Cubs in the 7th. I think Durham should play every day ahead of Weeks.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) With the exception of yesterday and today, we have been swinging the bats pretty well. I didn't mean it in a negative way.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Actually, if Lee didn't cut it off, Fielder was out at home. Hart was safe anyways, bad call by the ump. Thanks, don't tell Hawk about the umpire. Did Lou come out and thank the ump? Also in response to the thought of the game being over in the 4th. Earlier in the season the pitching would keep the team in the game. Recently this has not been the case and thereby the offense has not been able to get back into it. Thsi offense is pretty predictable especially lately.
  16. Have the Brewers on MLB anyone know if Hart gave himself up to guarantee the run? Hall with a single would have made it 4-2. Maybe I should flip the cubs on as I have not brought the Sox any luck.
  17. I said earlier in this thread that Slowey would simply let the Sox get themselves out which thee are really adept at doing and they'd be lucky to score more than 2 runs. Not expecting anything from Richard tomorrow as the Twins will simply use the same approach as they did today and tick away at him.
  18. What the f*** is QUentin doing?????? Seen 3 pitches. Also the Sox have 4 infield pop outs, 2 grounders that didn't make past he mound and 1 K against a guy that barely hits 90. Check that now 2 K's
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) SO did Geoff Blum lets go get him. Stop living in the past, this Konerko is hitting for less power than OC. Neither Konerko or Swisher should be getting the free pass that they are. The thing about Swisher is he cost the Sox a player that is doing better than he is plus to pitchers one of which wold look good on the trtade market right now. The money I am not concerned about. This team's defense is really bad right now, not that I am tellign anyone anything new.
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Even when he makes contact it's pathetic. If he's still injured (and I'm not saying he is, but IF) then we'll all be alot better if a fastball finds its way to his hand so we can stop throwing him out there. Exactly I will give him slack if he is trying ot play injured but this is just sad to watch. Slowey is not a good pitcher and should be getting pounded.
  21. The approach tonight is the complete opposite from the Verlander game. Miner and Slowey are guys that a good offense should rock. The White Sox are very inconsistent. Simply look at he 9th inning yesterday and the inordinate amount of first pitch easy outs from overanxious hitters trying to hit the 5 run homer. Slowey will let them get themselves out now with a 4 run lead and the Sox hitters will oblige as they overswing. Sorry if this is to negative to post but that is the reality. Minnesota is really good at executing consistently, the Sox are not. Not saying the game is over but it would not be surprising if the Sox scored less than 2 runs.
  22. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) He's not receiving a free pass. It's just this simple: .228/.349./.399 @ 3.6 million as an average CF > .216/.315/.357 @ 12 million as a below average 1B. Nobody booing Swisher from what I hear. I think the injury thing really f***s up Konerko and he is not athletic enought o play through it. I know this is an excuse but why not play Anderson or Wise over Swisher once in a while.
  23. Quentin has seen two pitches tonight...... Execution not looking real good right now as all three leadoff baserunners wasted.....and no double plays either.
  24. Why does Nick Swisher get the free pass? I am not a Konerko backer but there is still the hand issue. What is Swisher's excuse, his robust .228 and below average CF play are not adding anything to the team.
  25. I believe that Anderson and Wise and then Swisher and Konerko should platoon until somebody breaks out of it. Swisher and Konekro have been given enough time to work out of it on their own. The defense of Anderson alone is needed in Minnesopta and the pitchers that Minnesota throws out there should not totally overmatch the Sox hitters. The substandard defense cost them yesterday on Swisher's misplayed ball and Swisher did nothing at the plate to warrant the blind faith he is being shown. I just do not want to see outs given away especailly with as shaky as the pitching has been. They can give outs away at home but not currently as things are shaping up on the road. I do not think this will be the case but I hope Uribe is out there as well. I think I still have a real sour taste after the 9th inning yesterday.
