Frank Thomas Released By The Blue Jays/signed by the A's
Harry Chappas replied to BlizzardOfOzzie's topic in The Diamond Club
Rolen will be their DH for the next three years thus the reasoning why Frank was let go. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) I agree... Masset isn't worthless though. That wasn't my opinion although McDougal is getting there and I was a big backer until the Tiger game last Friday when he was all over the place wiht a huge strike zone. If Guillen is only going to use them in these situations, they are worthless although I think they both have some value and should have pitched last night or Tuesday.

per Ozzie, did Alexi have a tough time in center?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) If we saw MacDougal come in during a 1-run ballgame Soxtalk would explode, even knowing we're overusing Linebrink/Dotel/Jenks. Maybe but what happens in a close game tonight? One that is not a three run cushion. Jenks and Linebrink should not have been used Tuesday moreso than last night. I think with a 3 or 4 run lead at home you can use the second tier guys more. Ozzie is going to these guys way to often already. This is really good hindsite I know. If Masset and McDougal are only going to be used in losing game they are worthless. Also Thorton needs more work. He should be above Dotel right now in my mind.

The fact that Linebrink and Jenks had pitched three days in row this early in the season was the reason they were not sharp. If McDougal, Thorton and Masset are only going to pitch in blow outs, it is going ot be along season for the end of that pen. The defense cost them the game. There is no reason for Dye to be playing in a three run game in the 8th, the offensive options are not that bad that should the lead be blown that a Ramirez or Anderson will kill you. Not when Uribe is batting four times a game. The $27M spent on a 3/4 hitters in the line-up is a concern that is not going away any time soon. Sorry, one big hit a week from each is not doing it. This offense is not looking good at all. This weekend will be interesting.

Is the start of Dempster masking the reality that Ted Lilly is getting his tits lit up in cubdom? ERA north of 9.00 through 4 starts.
-
The cubs television and radio revenue is questionable as well.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) The Sox were 12-6 vs the Royals last season that's a .667 W% or 17% of their total wins for the season. It's strange, for whatever reason people have this feeling that the Sox have struggled with the Royals in recent years but in actuality over the past 7 or so seasons the Sox have absolutely dominated the Kansas City. Everyone reverts back to the Detorit Tiger / KC Royal Jerry Manuel days. Didn't good ole Jerry save the Tigers from being the worst baseball team of all time? In 2005 I seemed to think we struggled with them. Ozzie's opening day KC debut lingers a little as well.

Am I crazy to think that the way Broadway is pitching the more teams will think about him as a legitimate #4/#5........... If Crede could be signed for a nice price (I know wishful thinking) Fields, Anderson/Owens and Broadway could garner a really, really useful piece to this teams puzzle come June. After looking at FutureSox the minor league system appears to have some life after all.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) When are people going to learn not to tape their crimes. Silly teens. They taped it for the intent of posting on-line to humiliate the girl. There were a couple of mothers on the Today show telling some odd tales about how the victim was to blame and that she actaully was warned not to go in the house. It is an interesting case but the two girls that really took it to her should be hit with really nice jail time. They girls were joking about it when they were arrested and hoped to be out for cheerleading practice later that day. I believe this was actually the second time these girls attacked her but I could be mistaken.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) How many episodes have we seen so far this year? 9 I believe.

The pitching is as good as it literally could be but the offense really is stagnant. They are showing signs of last season again. Two days in a row against sub-par pitching where they have done very little as far as consistency goes. This team should kill LHP.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) Quick question about the actual show. Next week is the live finale. Does anyone know how much actual time there was between tonight's taped last week on campus and next week's finale? How does the finale work? Is the winner the one that has the highest percentage of weight-loss? Oh, and if anybody is open, my suggestion is to vote for Roger to be in the finale. Last week Roger was let go from his job for being away from work for too long. Not sure what kind of agreement what they had in the beginning, but that kinda blows. My guess is he will trade this experience for any job. He was an associate Athletic Director at Jacksonville State in Alabama. The actual show had 5 weeks between the last episode and last night. For some reason I was really pulling for Kelly. I was hoping Brit would lose a few more pounds and actully be steamy she was gertting there. The newlywed chcik was pretty decent looking. Glad Bernie beat Mark and Jillian had both winners. I really dig that show and I am not really sure why. I have lost 30 pounds since I started watching it in week 3. Although Comiskey Park is doing me no favors.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) Obama picks up endorsements from 3 superdelegates as well as Bruce Springsteen today. The Boss would've been helpful on Super Tuesday.

For a late inning guy I want the guy with the highest baseball IQ whether it is defense (throwing to the right base and getting to balls) running (taking the extra base or not, getting a good jump, etc.) and situational hitting (bunting, making contact, sacrifices, etc). The only thing JO has in any of these sitautions is that he is left handed. Anderson and Ramirez are better defensive players and he does not comapre to Ozuna Ramirez is just as fast and has more baseball experience as does Ozuna withoouthte speed it appears but this may go as well to Anderson was choosen over both of them Monday None of these guys is fooling anyone with their ability at the plate but Ozuna did at one time. I would like to see a Mackowiak type player (LH plays various positions) brought in pinch hit late in a game for Uribe Other than that, there is no need for Jerry Owens as he is a below average defender and hitter which is not what you need late in game.

The series is a never ending episode. 1 hour on the 15th and two hours on the 29th to me means there is an episode on the 15th and two hour episode called a finale on the 29th. It is not like an episode is one hour of beginning, middle and end.

Thome's next ejection may be from 3rd in order
Harry Chappas replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) Man a Fields/Thome platoon sounds pretty intriguing. Anderson or Ramirez should play CF, with Swisher, Dye or Konekro DH'ing. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) "Temporary inplosions" aka walks are the main reason the Sox have scored most of their runs this season, and that is not a crime. I agree and it is really nice to see them finally taking advantage of this but last night and today the offense seems to be giving away a ton of at-bats.
