Juan Uribe's average is higher than Jim Thome's. Jim Thome makes 3x what Uribe makes and has no defensive skill set while Uribe saves at least a hit a game with his defense. While I am not saying Uribe is better than Thome, Thome should be a greater concern with his age at this point than Uribe. Juan Uribe's hitting is not why this team will lose. Jim Thome's can be attributed to at least a couple of games already (Thursday, Friday and yesterday he had the opportunity to come through and failed, sorry the GO RBI wasn't that impressive).

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Jim Thome was our best hitter last season. Crazy idea to think of getting rid of him just yet. This team needs to get really hot here the next couple of weeks as they are playing beatable teams wrapped around the Yankees. If you look at the rest of the division they are playing tough schedules. The Sox need to open ground now as May is a complete road trip with little or no off days. The Quintin AB in 9th was a disgrace both he and Crede had a miserable nights at the plate. The 2-0, 3-1 pop-ups are inexcusable.

QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) First of all, Brian Anderson is currently on the roster, so he has nothing to do with this topic. and Secondly sure everything is working fine right now, we have timely hitting, lots of 2 out RBI, plenty of power. But what happens when that all comes to a screeching halt?? You have to start manufacturing runs, the same credo that '05 team lived by. And to manufacture runs its kind of hard to do when you are waiting to string 3 hits together to do it. The 05 team lived on pitching and enough hitting to win. This team is hitting the way the Yankees and Boston do, they see a ton of pitches and are making the pitcher work even Uribe is doing this fairly well (to his standards). Podesednik at his best still did not got on base enough. If you notice Konerko is turning into a little OBP machine thus far as well. If Thome starts to click this team could really be on to something.

Strong play by Sox may keep Owens in AAA
Harry Chappas replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Jim Thome was hitting and getting on base at a more normal clip this offense would be insane. Swisher is doing exactly what he needs and is playing better CF than Owens would. Quintin and Anderson render Owens expendable. Owens like Fields and Richar could use the time at AAA. -
The Brewers are looking really good. The cubs are struggling to beat anyone which is exactly like last season. Once Gallardo is back I think the Brewers will be the team to beat. I would say watch out for St. Louis but they have played San Fran and Washington.

Eddings was not really at fault it is windy but not that bad, same with Rogers, Eddings was the only guy that judged the ball correctly maybe by accident. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Whaddya mean unafraid of the bat? The problem is, the Tigers hitters can't touch this stuff! He seems to not trust his stuff (ie the first three innings Monday) and tries to be to cute. If he just reared back and threw and didn't think, he'd be fine, like today. -

Thome needed the day off. Would've liked to see Anderson or Ramirez in CF Uribe's defense is good enough to keep running him out there -
While I berated Uribe in the game thread and Hall is bad, the trio of Cabrerra, Thome and Konerko are what is keeping this team in teh ugh mode. A good AB by THome when it was 7-3 the other night could have changed the complexion of that game. Cabrerra has shown nothing on offense or defense.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) This will be a better team when Wasserman is called up for MacDougal. McDougal flat sucks. Hopefully that call has been made already. -

OK AJ ISN'T PLAYING BECAUSE THERE IS A GAME AT NOON TOMORROW, IT IS AGAINST A RHP AND IT IS COLD. He can not play 162 games. Anything in the air is a strike yet the Sox pitchers can not get it close enough. Clete f***ing Thomas, come on. McDougal, Uribe and the 2-4 are embarassing right now. Man they are giving away runs now. -

That Uribe at bat was simply sad. This is the traditional cold weather corseball approach we had grow to know and love. Why is it the opponents can handle the cold and the Sox just run away and hide. This game should have ended the Tigers bullpen for the series. Instead........well let's see that chemistry that Hawk stated was the best he had seen in his 85 years of baseball. Inge simply kills this team. -
In 1988 parked on 37th street while still legal, I and a lady friend entertained ourselves nicely while waiting out a rain with a 12 pack of Old Style and yada, yada, yada, the rest is as they say, history. BTW the neighborhood was not as cheery back then.
