  1. I still can not comprehend how defense could be the focal point of this team over offense. To think that the Adams brothers are thought of as more important than Jason Williams either tells me that I do not understand hockey or the Blackhawks are trying to win every game 1-0 or 2-1.
  2. The end result is sad but the situation itself just goes to show how society is simply becoming more twisted. Unless there is undue pain or deformity what is the purpose of these procedures. The beautification of society is really going over board.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) With 5 inning-Danks, Floyd, and a scary Contreras in the starting rotation, I want a guy who can give us 3-4-5 innings in the pen. I don't want to blow up all of these guys because one situational 6th inning guy pitched better in spring training and late last year. We need the guy who makes the most sense to the set up of the team. Even if it isn't Masset, we need a guy who can suck up innings in case starters falter. If Wasserman wants to be that guy, he had better stretch out that arm. I get think feeling that Danks and Floyd will not be pulled on a regular basis and it could get ugly as they are left out there to figure it out. It is my feeling that Ozzie will not kill the bullpen to cover their asses. They will each will throw 100 pitches no matter what. If it is 3 innigns or 5 they will be out there.
  4. Why does this team even have spring training? As KW and ozzie said at Soxfest you can not judge outfield play, infield play and pitching because of the conditions. First off, why hold spring training there than but more importantly I think they build their team in February and spring training is irrelevant for 23 of the 25 guys that are going to make the team. If Jerry Owens hits .090 with an OBP of .125 they would say it is only spring training. RIGHT NOW due to Quintin's health and the inexperienced pitching staff Swisher LF / Anderson CF is to obvious as compared to Quintin LF / Swisher CF. Swisher should lead-off everyday and Ozzie should put his best team out there. Baseball is a game of unpredictable averages the only given is Ichiro will go 2 for 3 off of Mark Buerhle. Yet Guillen insists on changing the line-up daily and moving everyone around. In 2005, the line-up when Pods was healthy Pods-Iguchi-Everett/Thomas-Konerko-Dye-AJ/Widger-Rowand-Crede-Uribe It rarely ever changed. Now this season we will again have the revolvoing door line-up based on who is pitching. Yet they still can not hit LHP with all of these new fangaled line-ups.
  5. Man do the Brewers have a busload of talented young players. If their pitching can stay healthy and Capuano does anything they will walk away with that division.
  6. I think in the end Ramirez is a better player without even taking money into account than Fukodome and I said this in December.
  7. Where is the ridicule on Sheets for giving up a grand slam to Omar Infante. Sorry I think Floyd will be average this year with his ups and downs.
  8. The fact that Ramireez is getting a ton of time all of a sudden in CF scares the crap out of me. I am thinking there is a platoon of Owens and Ramirezin CF in the works and the thought of Ramirez leading off makes sense as it would be stupid.
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I don't blame him for Richar breaking a rib. I blame him for not taking a golden opportunity to move Juan Uribe. He could have just as easily signed Marcus Giles whose production would be downright identical at 1/5 of Uribe's salary. Uribe knows he's unwanted, and now he's still here. They are throwing away money, but like I said that's not my problem. I actually watch these games though, and watching Uribe for ONE MORE AT BAT will be one too many. Interesting tidbit from Jason Grey today. If Uribe is not resigned do you think the Angels make the Garland trade straight up? If Uribe is not resigned the Sox have no bargaining power as the Angels had 5 dependable starters on paper at that time. Marcus Giles......come on.
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) This is hilarious. Now the "depth" we have in having Uribe starting and fFelds in AAA is a good thing i guess. Seriously, Juan Uribe is an awful player, and now he's, YET AGAIN, in line for many at bats, just at a new position. This is a goddamn joke. Unlike previous years there are players that can replace him if he fails which he might. There are at least two other guys that can step right in. For the 2008 season the higher ceilings guys are Crede and Uribe. They will both be on short leashes and will be DFA'd should they suck. They are getting the first shot. What is the big f***ing deal with everyone. It is not like Fields, Ramirez and Richar even that Bourgoise fellow are being released. I like that there are options over Erstad and Andy Gonzalez this year. That fact that people are complaining that Phillips was sent down over releasing Hall is absolutely laughable and borders are insanity. Those people will bith to b****. If Hall sucks he can be DFA'd and Phillips can be recalled. Again what is the big f***ing deal. None of Crede, Uribe, Hall, Fields, Phillips, and whoever the golden child to play second over Uribe will be the reason this team loses as they guys are not expected to carry the team. It will come down to Konerko, Thome, Dye, Swisher, the bullpen, Contreras and one of Danks or Floyd to live up to expectations.
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Funny that Mark would openly state his preference for Crede at 3B. What a jag off.
  12. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) right. the guy has shown he can really hit against ML pitching so thats what he NEEDS to be doing. He has nothing to learn in the minors except for defense and that he can do at the major league level. i really worry about ruining Josh. Look at how Tampa handles players in attempt to ruin them. Josh Fields and Joe Crede are probably about even on a talent level and what they will produce. The player making the money stays the cheaper one remains in the minors and with the organization a year longer 5 years from now. Come on I like Josh Fields but for about the 1,000,000th time if you think there are no aspects of his game that need work your insane. I am sure Fields will be fine and his career will be what it is. Look at it this way our minor league outfield with Quintin and Anderson should be great and with Fields and Richar, everyone will get what they want, one hell of minor league team.
  13. I still think it will be Lowry if he regains any type of health and cash for Uribe or Crede. Especailly if one of the younger guys fail in april. What about Uribe or Crede and one of Floyd or Danks for Cain or Lincecum?
  14. Two double plays in two innings for our beloved White Sox.
  15. I am lost here. So Obama's wife got into Princeton due to affirmative action, she writes that she felt that she was not totally accepted because of this. She then proceeds to go to Harvard....I got this, I think Then she comes out and states that she is finally happy that the country has risen up to back her husband and pay attention and now she is proud to be an American. I am a little uncertain as to how this translates into racist behavior. Clearly there is a divide to a degree where blacks and whites are not comfortable with one another as much as they are with their own class. She writes about this in a Sociology thesis. A couple of things, what exactly is racist here? Also, I was not aware that she was that well educated. Hell if Obama wins she can run for Senate and President in 2020. Sorry if I am missing the point.
  16. The endorsement is ok if he has the weight in the DNC. The whole thing is going to come down to who is liked by whom. Edwards needs to do something although I get the feeling Hill may be going after him as a V.P. and a big win in NC which with a big win in PA could garner her the support she needs to go to the convention. If Richardson has enough pull with the Dem Party as whole he could put an end to the Hill crusade.....I know wishful thinking.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) Remember, Christmas stuff was at the hospital. X-Mas stuff is put out early, but that was obviously a hint. Very solid episode, but I am insanly mad they killed Rosseau. To me she was one of the best characters on the show, and there was SO much left to be told about her situation. Her death won't stop them from telling her story, but I just hate that she is gone. I just got done watching, so I need some more time to gather my thoughts. Is she Locke dead or Mr. Ecko dead? I think Carl is gone. I am not sure why they would kill either of them they looked like they could have a good point to the story but who knows. The Michael timeline is tough if you remember his mother said that he dropped Walt off and was gone for 2 months correct? I guess the 2 months could have been from the time he left to get Walt until he returns I need to read thsi again. The time travel thing is kind of irritating. I think Tom removed the firing pin or something with the gun to try and deceive Michael. I liked the episode but the Sayid move was odd. He is quite the windsock when it comes to trusting someone, kind of like Jack. Time to go blogging for information. Well according to Soxtalk, the next time Lost airs the Sox will be mathimatically eliminated
  18. Nice solid bracket some upsets a dark horse final four in Pitt. Nice close to th vest grid that will not get you trouble and should win some decent points.
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I'm talking specifically the foreign policy experience and commander in chief test she made up. When she starts touting a trip she took with Sinbad as FP experience the hammer comes back. I heard this once but was hoping it could be verified, I thought it was a joke. Is the Sir Edmund Hillary conversation true about her being named after him and her being born before he climed MT. Everest?
  20. QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Cesar Izturis was out there and I'm sure there were other options as well. It's not like any of those names you mentioned would be our starting SS. Regarding the second part, lets say that happens and we start the season around the horn as Fields-Ramirez-Richar-Konerko with an OF of Quentin-Anderson-Dye and Owens as the 4th OF. Then, instead of trading for Swisher, we put together a deal for Blanton and go into the season with Buehrle-Vazquez-Garland-Blanton-Contreras/Danks. Same bullpen, but with a bench of Hall, Owens, Bourgeois, Ozuna. That's a much better team IMO. The fact that Izturis and Blanton have not been trading leaves your post speculative at best. When Ramirez was signed he was compared to Omar Infante this could still be the case. Richar wasn't all that great last year. To hand the middle of the diamopnd to those two...........wow is about all I can say. Do you think KW was given the choice between Blanton and Swisher for those three and took Swisher.............. Where is Crede again, KW just released him wiht Uribe? The fact that you also now have Anderson as the starter really shows how great revisionist history can be.
  21. A picture Uribe with a bus parked on him and Guillen playing the role of Jackie Gleason in the Honeymooners promo after reading that quote. ouch.
  22. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) "Milwaukee is a permanent fixture in the NBA," Kohl said Wednesday after he announced that Larry Harris left as general manager. "I'm not in this business to make any annual profits. The value of the asset fortunately has appreciated over the years. On an annual basis, it's a money-losing proposition. I'm in it because I love the sport, I love the competition and I love winning." I believe he has said it often yet the media and those that love to spend other people's money will blast away without understanding the situation. If the Sox raised ticket prices like the cubs have (33% this past offseason correct), what would hte ramifications be on the fan base. Having a bad season killed a sizable amount of season ticket holders already. Wanna b**** about owners taking advantage of a situation, look at the Twins, Royals, Marlins.
  23. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) very true. plus, i remember from the first series dvd extras hearing abrams talk about how he and lindelhof essentially sketched out the entire story arc in their first meeting. things have changed since then (like ben becoming a major character) but supposedly the whole premise has been the same from the beginning. i know some people are skeptical of this but i do believe it. it explains some of the weaknesses in the show last year. i think they got to a point where they were just kind of killing time and not really sure how long it was going to take them to get where they need to go. that's why it was so key to put an endpoint, because now they can start working towards that end. Without an end point the show is Gilligan's Island with bad people. I would bet that the outline is complete and like you said they are just trying to keep in interesting and rake in dough until it is all finished. The sub-plots I think are the hit or miss pieces.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) That save at the end of the game was one of the most incredible saves I have ever seen. It would have been nice to see that Khabibulin for, I don't know, the last 12 million dollars we have paid him... We might actually be in the playoffs then. It's nice to see that he decided to show up now that the season is pretty much over. I hate garbage time superstars. Show up when the season actually matters. I kind of agree with you but I also think he was put in a no win situation when he came here as he was surrounded by crap up until this year. I am hoping he is a tad more rejuvenated for next year and him and Lalime go at it again. Habby is no spring chicken by the way. The shut-out was pretty cool and there were a couple of highlight reel saves the last one will be in Hawk highlight lore. If you saw the post game interview he was kind of b****ie (or honest I suppose) that the delay is not a good thing and it really seemd to hurt Washington. Josh Mora was like most fans, pretty excited to see the shutout on Tony 'O' and habby wasn't really going with it. Great game.
  25. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) yeah im a little lost as well....if nobody claims juan, i think he has two options...sit on his butt and collect 4.5 mil from us, or sign with another team for whatever, taking us off the hook for 4.5 mil....is this correct? No, I beleive if the Sox release him, he gets the $4.5M plus anything he agrees to with another team. MLB contracts are guaranteed. The thing is, is that he becomes a free agent after the 72 hours and if there are 3 or 4 teams that want him they will drive up his price thus KW is forcing them to take him and his full salary before another team can claim him. Depending on the waiver order this could really benefit a team.....
