3/7/08 Game B - ARI @ SOX, 2:05pm CT
Harry Chappas replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2008 Season in Review
First off why do you get to post two game threads. Also please inform the folks that this is the game that Sox fans have waited for since the tragic news of late 2005. WSCR is covering this one with and is the only spring training game with Stone. Enjoy -
I originally thought it was just an ok episode but I gotta tell ya Juliet reallly does it for me. I used to think Kate was all that but Juliet....I was not sure whay she couldn't go all Kung Fu on Charolette. Ben is great and I am really liking the dead pan humor, "see you at dinner" was the best. Right up there with Thomas Magnum, Norm (from Cheers not Norm McDonald) and Kramer as best television personalities in my television watching life. Also if you know who the Oceanic 6 are that episode was great because you then need to try and think how and why they come to be well at least four of them as the last two are easy. Charles Widmore you should have saw coming from the last episode. Michael's name is in the opening credits and he has an episode about him this season so he has to appear somehow at some time in some place I would suppose. After really looking at it though know you see why the boat folks are bad and it is not in an endangering way to the Losties but they are dangerous to the Ben style of life. The thing though is why would Penny not want to be associated with them.....................+ In the end I though t it was pretty good. Off to read the Blogs.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Fields doesn't have anything left to do in AAA. He is well beyond AAA. There is no reason to think in 500 PA's Josh can't hit 30 HR's this season. You don't put that in the minors because Joe Crede has 1 year left on his deal. It's an incredibly short-sided move. Josh should be the front runner for the 1st base job. He is younger, healthier, has a much longer future with the Sox, and in a short time could be a better overall player than Joe, if he isn't already. If healthy Crede is the better player and should be traded if it nets you something. Younger players are blocked all of the time and Fields may be blocked this year. It is not going to hurt him or the team if Crede is healthy it'd be nice to see what he could do this year but a healthy Crede is better than Fields at this point in time so you do not give Crede away just so Fields can play. Fields may hit 30 HR and K 160 times this year and make 20 errors He could do this at AAA this year and next year hit 30 HR K 100 times and make 12 errors while Crede produces for the Sox this year and nets a pick or two next June at worst. Josh Fields is not a sure thing and Crede is a better player at this time.

McDougal will be given a shot to come north regardless of his spring. I think Wasserman will really have to outpitch Massett to make the team. Uribe is really getting close to a DFA. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) The FL and MI situation is getting a little uglier. A senator from FL is telling Howard Dean that the DNC should either accept the original results, or pay for a do-over. Dean says a do-over is all good, but that the DNC will not pay for it. What kills me here is that the voters in FL and MI, and the rest of the nation indirectly, are now paying for the poor decision making of whomever in FL and MI decided to move their primaries up too far. My question is, who are those people, and if they still have jobs, why? They will need to come to a decision pretty quick. As it stands now, the re-addition of 2 big primaries probably helps Clinton the most, since she is behind. I have a feeling they will end up re-doing both primaries, and splitting the costs somehow. And that changes the math a bit. I could be wrong but wasn't it determined by the govenors of the respective states? Jed Bush says hi.

With Quintin and Owens hurt Anderson is really getting an opportuntiy to improve his status within the organization. I still get the feeling he starts in CF and Swisher in LF and Bourgoise (sp?) and Ramirez are your backup outfielders as Ramirez is doing nothing to prove he needs to be sent down and both of these guys add speed and can play vital positions. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) That is just awesome. When Hillary talks about another Bush term in office, she must be talking about if she gets elected. She would absolutely start a 5th term consecutive of lies, deceit and corruption, in the Presidency, because she is already doing it in her campaign! The thing that really pisses me off is that this specific lie is new but the idea of her being a liar, cheater and self righteous is overlooked and should be the foremost media point regarding this campaign. She is turning it ugly because she was getting smoked. The media will gloss over this and move on to something new. Her smear campaign may in the end give McCain the White house and she does not care yet the dolts that are the Democratic party will not mess with the machine. If she beats Obama the GOP will trash her and Big Bad John will be the president. Then Obama can take a run at him or whoever the GOP put up in 2012.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Harry Chappas replied to kapkomet's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
When they did not even generate offense on the 2 min 5 on 3 and then the 5 minute 5 on 4 I thought the game was over. I thought the defense and Hendry and the new guy especially stood tall tonight especially with Wiz out. Barker seems to be getting comfortable as well. They seemed to protect Crawford pretty well. Seabrook and Keith are going ot be the reason why $$$ is not spent on the blue line this summer and I think it is a smart move another scorer and this team could be really good next year. I like Jason Williams as well. Kane really did step up after that big hit and made a really nice play. He seemed to be a little gun shy up unitl that point....I say that as he had two points. They played 7 rookies last night and 8 against Vancouver that is amazing. Sopel and Wiz (after the 1st) were out as well. They seem to play better without Havlat and Bulin........... Ladd and Byf could really be something. The thing about Byf is things happen when he is on the ice. The Ben Eager putting the head down and drawing the big penalty was huge. The Hawks really played in control for the first time in...........I can not reacall. They let the Ducks shot themselves in the head all night. It seemed that they were cognizant of the fact that they had to protect Crawford and be smart and they were. Other than not capitalizing on the penalties more they looked like a sound hockey team last night. If Havlat and Bulin could earn their money they could be something although I think the kids would defer to them more.... I think I underestimated Robert Lang and the things that a Craig Adams could do as well. Great game. -
If Joe Crede is healthy KW will try and get MLB talent that can produce this year or an A level non-40 man prospect. Sending Fields to AAA only makes him better and I am not sure why that is viewed as a bad thing here. Crede is an above average fielder and average hitter that if he progresses and plays for a contract is a very real MLB proven asset. If the Sox did not have a shot this year than they should give him away but they do have a shot and a healthy Crede is an asset to that with Fields as a legitimate back-up. If Joe wants a long term deal I believe the Sox sign him and move Fields especially if he is producing big time at AAA. What is the benefit of giving Crede away? Fields isn't going to be realeased or traded he will be allowed to be where he should be AAA and be great insurance policy if Joe is not healthy. Buddy Bell is the minor league coordinator who can spend some time working with Fields which is a great thing as well.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:51 AM) What's a backup catcher's primary duties? Be good defensively, handle the pitchers well, and throw base runners out. The bat comes last, and last time I checked AJ batting right handed with one hand against lefties would be an upgrade over a torn labrum Hall. There are a few million reasons why Hall will make the team. Cole's real first name is Melville BTW. He was a minor league rule 5 pick-up. I like Mel Armstrong.

QUOTE(BFirebird @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Which team did they skip? cubs Buerhle 4 shut out innings. Well at least thus far the Sox seem to be taking spring training seriously.
-
Swish leaves 'em loaded. A hit (Richar), 2 walks (Dye & Anderson) and error (AJ) lead to a run - Fields some sort of sacrifice to get the run. 1-0 Sox B2

QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) When did I ever say throw 55 million at Walker? How about draft better and be more strategic in a trade with someone?Angelo is supposed to be a professional at making decisions like these and we wind up with not even a valid number 2 reciever let alone a number 1.I dont know, maybe he will draft a good one this year but history suggests otherwise. Who drafted Berrian? -
QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) wait, xm on the computer now lets you stream MLB games? and I think Stone and the Sox will work out a long term deal for him here on the South Side. I actually do not know I got XM at Christmas. I listen to XM on the computer at work but do not know if they blacked out these type of things...........sorry

I really hope Obama drops the gloves and attacks Hillary for all she is worth. Go after Bill's stay in the White House. I would start with the fact that her experience resulted in the Clinton's having Obama and letting him go, will Hillary let him go as well. What 3 AM phone calls did Bill address, we know what Bill was up to at 3AM in the White House........it wasn't answering the phone unless it was from Monica. As GWB fought his father's war and got us into the Iraq mess will Hillary now try and fight Big Bill's war and get us into a deeper mess. Time for someone to clean up after the Bush and Clinton frat parties. Call the White House a Frat House go at it hard. Destroy Hillary and run agin in 4 years if need be. Bring up her taxes, Whitewater and all that. They need to do this as the America people need to be reminded of how ill the Clinton's will make you feel. The Obama campaign appears to be in cruise control mode and are being kicked and are trying to ignore it. The media caters to this crap and it is garnering votes and press for Hillary.

Next to melodious sounds of Stonehenge to take me through the summer the next best Sox news Count dealing and Thor appearing healthy. A nice showing by Obama and this could be a very good day.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) We don't have any true replacements for Thome. Swisher to LF, Quintin to RF and Anderson to CF and Dye to DH while Quintin/Owens/ or Anderson play more. You see I beleive Anderson should be the starting CF because he makes the defense better. An outfield of Quintin/Anderson/Swisher is really really good and will hel pthe young pitching. Thome's bat will be missed by the defense makes up for it. As for losing Jenks that hurts but if Dotel is healthy they still have an option. Now if both are hurt.....well at some time (like last year) injuries will do you in. I just think they can survive better this year.

Uribe + MacDougal for Marquis?

I'd rather have our radio colorman pitching than Marquis. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) And at this news, I'm rapidly renewing Gameday audio. XM on the computer is worth it even more.

Based on early reviews this team is in much better position to sustain an injury than last season. I really hope I never have to watch a talentless player like Andy Gonzalez again. Outside of Buerhle, Vazquez and possibly AJ we could replace any player on this team and in some cases be a more rounded ball club becasue of it.
-
As the season wears on a team will get desperate and give a legitimate prospect for Roberts if he could be the missing piece. One legitimate prospect is better than anything the cubs are offering.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 08:36 AM) Wow. Any story about the details? Was Singleton fired, or did he quit? He is one of the nicest guys in baseball. I hope he lands on his feet. On the other hand, we are getting one of the best broadcasters in baseball. Hopefully he will make Ed Farmer listenable again. Merge with the Lopez thread......says Singleton going ot Baseball Tonight. Great move for him.

Wow that is awesome. This season is looking good already.

Sounds like Richar is having a bad day.......Fields also appears to be stuggling. It appears this spring that the guys the Sox are counitng on are geting the job done and those players that you never heard of are costing hte team runs.....oh them and Mike McDougal
