QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) I may know that and you may know that but I'm not convinced all baseball people believe this to be the case. People seriously love Rich Hill as a pitcher, for whatever reason that big hook carries a lot of clout with major league executives. But yeah, I agree Garland is definitely the better pitcher. You are the second person (see pg4) in this thread that debated my point and then when on to prove it. I agree with you to a degree. The most damning thing to me is that if Hill does anything in game 3 that series could have been way different. The same thing could be said for Garland putting his team up 2-1 in 2005.

QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Open market Danks is worth more simply because of his age. People are hoping he can hit that ceiling we speak of but I wouldn't get my hopes all the way up on that for at least 2 more years. That was my point, not that Hill pitched better than Danks last year. If Hill nets more than Jon Garland for the cubs, KW should be fired. Floyd I believe could have more value than Hill. I think this Board has taken to the fact hat the Sox farm system is complete garbage and every other team is stocked. That just isn't he case. If the Sox suck this year and get a #4 pick in 2009 and get a couple of picks for Cabrerra in the offseasn they will have a farm system in the top 5 but A)They have to suck and B)They have to spend on draft picks. The guys the Tigers gave up were both Top 10 picks.

I think Felix Pie is very comparable to Brian Andersona and I think Rich Hill has topped out, he will not get any better and is no better than Gavin Floyd as a prospect. Hill has had a greater deal of success due to a terrible division and inferior league. When Rich Hill needed to step up to get the ball to Big Z he got hit at home pretty good and failed. Sorry but I think he is overrated by the cub and anyone that thinks he is anything more than mediocore. His ceiling has been reached. Danks and Floyd have accomplished more at their age than Hill and I thereby find any comparison moot.

Time to up the ante: Sign Bonds to a 1yr deal
Harry Chappas replied to scenario's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) honestly, I share a distaste for Bonds but it's tempered and nuance -- that said... would you feel that same way about Joe DiMaggio, who was greedy, a jerk, a wife-beater, an asshole to fans...he was Barry Bonds without "cheating" or a hostile media. How dare you compare Mr Steroids to Mr Coffee. Have you no class? -
So next year there could be 3 relievers pitching that we gave away for nothing. We lose three guys this year and get back 1.....this organization really confuses me.
-
Isn't our 40 man filled and we therefore do not even get a pick. Nobody could be better than Andy Gonzalez.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) Is Owens greater to or equal than Pie? I would trade Owens, Richar, Floyd, Broadway and Gio and more if we could get both Bedard and Roberts. Pie is a better defender and has a little more pop. When I first saw Pie I could not believe how small he was. I stand by my statement that Bedard and Roberts do more for this team then Cabrearra and Willis based on the needs of your Chciago White Sox and KW should pull out everthing that is not DLS for this move.
-
What is the difference between Pie and Anderson, oh wait the cubs didn't trash their prospect beyond belief and bring his worth down to nothing. Gallagher = Broadway Veal = Poor man's Gio Pie = Anderson Marshall = Floyd Hill = Poor man's Danks (due to age upside and service time) I really think Hill benefits from a poor division. Hill and Marshall would get killed in the NL East.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) What would it take to get this guy? Here is our solution to our leadoff spot and 2nd base. Perfect fit. If we trade for him and sign Rowand I would be very happy. Do we have enough to offer to get both him and Bedard like the Tigers did with Cabrera and Willis. This would be a better fit for the White Sox if they could pull something like this off. I would be absolutely ecstatic if they could get either or both of these guys. Roberts and Bedard are better than Willis and Cabrerra I believe. Give them Gio, Danks, Fields, Richar and another AAAA pitcher.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) The Braves offered Chuck James, a highly touted lefty MLB starter, and I believe the Royals said no. I'm worried about what we'd have to give up to get DeJesus. I'd much rather trade for Josh Hamilton. Off the top of my head, I thought I saw James pitch and he looked terrible. Am I confusing him with an atlanta leftie that really blew. I thought it was Saturday afternoon game agaisnt he cubs when Pinella got tossed......

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) (Raises hand) Um, didn't one of those 2 guys already, you know, spend a year starting in the big leagues? He didn't win ROY therefore he sucks come on get with the program.

Sign Fukodome and either Jones/Rowand or blow the whole damn thing up.

I would like to see a reality show involving Eric Byrnes, Manny Ramirez, Elijah Dukes and Ozzie Guillen myself.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) The Cards could use Spezio as a stopgap...but who would the Sox want from the Cards? Anthony Reyes.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
Harry Chappas replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is Quentin out of options and/or did the D'Backs need room on their 40 man for some reason. This trade still looks great for the Sox and adds what they need while not giving anything in the short term to the D'Backs. As was pointed out earlier a flier on Phillips and or a throw like Sisco, McDougal, Aardesma or McCullough would still seem to tilt the trade to the Sox. Hell even Floyd would've been ok. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) danks was a top 50 prospect in baseball heading into this year....broadway egbert and floyd at this points in their careers are nowhere near sniffing the top 100 let alone top 50....even after struggling in the second half...danks value (at least what it would be on the trade market) is quite a bit higher than those guys mentioned not named gio....gio and danks have a chance to be #3 starters....those other guys project as #5s My point was why we do not need Micha Owings not really about Danks. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) i trade konerko for weaver yesterday....the fact that sakamoto (who really should just stick to high school sports) mentioned him in a trade is laughable not sure why the hate for owings...no he doesn't throw 95 or even 92 for that matter, but for a guy who just turned 25, has a minor league record of 17-3 with a 3.14 ERA with a solid 167 K: 56 BB in 189 innings....and went 8-8 with a 4.30 (yes in the NL West though)......yeah hes 2.5 years older than danks, but im not convinced that hes that much less of a commodity right now than danks We have 5 guys of Danks quality (Danks, Gio, Broadway, Egbert, Floyd) no real need to have 6. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) No, it wouldn't be good at all. Owings is nothing special as a starter. I like the idea of getting Kotchman and one of the Angels starters much more. On the CLTV Sports Round Table last night Bob Sokamato (sp?) predicted and and it was a pure guess------ Konerko for Weaver or Santana and Figgins again he was only guessing but I think he may have some decent insite if he was going to make a preditction. I think Owings is really overrated and that deal I am not quite sure on as I think you should get better value for Konerko.....Orlando Hudson? -

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) I know why Quentin is more valuable than Carter for our organization: we're in win now mode and he can step in right away and fill a major hole. Why do people think that the Marlins clearly prefer Quentin over Carter? Because he is more ML ready than Carter and they need ML players not 20 year old prospects. This deal sounds to good to be true. The Rays come to mind. Remember they do not use Crawford to lead off and could use some pop in their line-up, some bullpen help and young pitching.... -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Balta, I don't think anyone here other than you and I seem to think Owens can be a successful major league leadoff hitter. I think he's likely to be .340-.350 OBP with 50+ SB at an 80%+ success rate if given the chance. But I'm in the minority. You are correct but not for a team trying to win it all. They do not have the luxury of seeing what he can do and hope it pans out. A team like the Pirates or Marlins could take this chance but I do not think the White Sox can. -

QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) How does making Quentin our LF make us better ? I know he's cheap, but unless he's ROY, I don't see how this closes the gap with Cleveland and Detroit. What kind of numbers are realistic for him ? Does anyone see Jerry Owens platooning with him ? More than anything he is viable prospect. If this is the final move, it is a bad one, if it is part an offseason plan than it is a good one. He is an MLB ready prospect which could fit our plans or is tradeable, which when packaged looks really good. -

Put him with Fields and Gio/Danks and what kind of return could be had.....hell put him with Fields and Owens/Anderson and the Marlins have their LF, CF and 3B next year...................... -

QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) I like the trade. Quentin has all the tools and he has done well at all levels but struggled last year. His value was low and looks like we jumped on that. Carter is not a great fielder and we can put anyone at 1B over the next few years if we only want a bat. Carter could be good too in the future but Quentin can play right now. He can DH for 10 years once Konerko, Thome and Dye are done. -
2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Harry Chappas replied to kapkomet's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
We walked up at game time and got $75 seats in the 200 section. The problem the Hawks are going to have is selling that section. The third balcony was pretty well sold but the middle behind the nets was empty. Gret game. Anyone see McDonough (sp?) yucking it up in the leowere level/ The dancing kid was pretty cool. Was it shown on TV at all?
