  1. Farmer said Sabathia left the facility in an aircast.......
  2. The benefit of a pitch out to the hitter is he gets a ball in the count. If the hitter can not use this to his favor pitchers will pitch out more often and throw the basestealer out. You can fall behind erstad 1-0 and pitch out as he will not work the count anyway and will swing away on 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 and not look for a given pitch to drive.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Prancer to lead things off. Good thing there is tight zone. Prancer needs to get a silent K in his name.
  4. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Ok, I should have known better, I admit by source was Ed Farmer. Either way, I hope he isn't around on Monday. Jake Westbrook and CC Sabathia are average pitchers except when thye face the Sox. Danks not working quickly and know has two walks in the first and falls behind Clark Is the 5th starter thing set??????
  5. Farmer is all fired up; Ripping on Bonds Not sure how you could pick Clev with that bullpen Danks struggling to locate but come back
  6. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) Angelo's five first-round picks: Colombo Haynes Grossman Harris Benson Right now, you'd have to say two bombed (Colombo and Haynes). I don't think Colombo was a bad pick. If he hadn't been injured, I expect he would have been a mild disappointment, still, but not a bust. I never liked the Haynes pick, but then, the guy I preferred (McDougle, who went next) hasn't done much, either. And before Jauron was fired, you don't know whose pick it really was (as Jauron had a lot to say about personnel). Grossman is a qb, it's boom or bust with such picks, and right now it's still up in the air. He hit a home run on Harris, and Benson is still something of a question mark. Angelo's found some great players in lower rounds, sure. But his track record doesn't show bomb after bomb on first-round picks, like Jenks was suggesting with that list. If anything, he looks like a huge improvement over what we were doing before. And you mind telling me which of these is not an impact player?: Quinn, Russell, Johnson, Thomas, Peterson, Landry I think Angelo is a great GM. I also think that he would rather trade out of the first round and use that money to extend proven players than pick an unknown player and risk losing money (last year). Didn't he also trade a high pick to move down when he got Haynes and Grossman. Compare that to guys he has taken in later rounds and there is no comparison as to when he does his best work. The guys that I pointed out were more to show that just because you have a high first round pick, you are not going to get a proven commodity in return. If they draft number 6, you have to give up a nice chunck of money for a player that may or may not pan out. I do not really see this as a benefit. I am not sold on Benson as he has not shown the ability to be durable. Has Angelo ever traded up in a draft? I almost would rather have him have the 31 pick and the extra money. Of the six players you have listed as impact three of them serve no purpose to the Bears (Quinn, Russell and Peterson). You are trading Jones, Briggs and your number one for the 6th pick in the draft and the 2nd round flip of picks. Sounds like a-lot to give up to me.
  7. The problem with the number 6 pick would be Angelo is better at drafting later rather than early. Would you trade Lance Briggs for Michael Haynes, Curtis Enis, Rashan Salam, Cade McNown, Marc Columbo, yada, yada, yada. I do not see the Bears making this move by the way unless there is experienced talent involved.
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) 1. Spring training feel, stats, etc. dont matter 2. White Sox lead the AL in runs scored during the spring. Yep and have scored 3 runs or less 11 times. The pop-outs and GIDP's have been a problem for a while and looks like an issue for this season as well. If Spring Training is so irrelevat how did Danks become the number 5? I understad there is a credability issue with looking too deep into the numbers but it is showing a pattern of reouccurence with the same porponents.
  9. I am getting the sinking feeling that the offense this year is going to get really ugly. They are just not generating run production and haven't most of the spring. The GIDP's and pop-outs are out of control.
  10. Carlos Zambrano is a true #1. One of very few in the game. He will get $20M a year. I also think he would come and play for Ozzie for a discount. Anyone that does not want him for any reason other than the cost is jaded by their hatred for the cubs.
  11. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) I'm not writing it off, what I'm saying is that there are the same players out there as Hall that can do the same things. And yes, KW overpaid for a backup catcher. I think the point your missing is that Toby Hall made the White Sox much better in their weakest area, hitting left handed pitching. Most catchers are right handed hitters hence the need for a Toby Hall is not that great. The Sox needed a guy to in those games when they faced Lee, Sabathia, Santana, etc, would give them a better shot. In games when they face right handed pitchers (80% of the time) this move is meaningless. Also the next time AJ twists an ankle trying to hit a LOOGY, remember this.
  12. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) I love how 90% of this board is freaking out like the season is over with this injury, yet fail to remember we brought home the hardware with Chris F'n Widger as our back-up. Yes, the same Chris Widger that wins MVPs of the 16" softball tournaments across the country. Ease up kiddies, we could have much bigger problems on our plate right now. Take Minnesota for instance, deciding who to make thier #3 (let alone #5) Sidney Ponson or Ramon Ortiz. A classic win-win situation. Didn't Minnesota have these same "bigger problems" last year as well when they won ths division? Oh wait that had a pitcher with a partially torn rotator cuff to secure that #2 role.
  13. If he needs at-bats, that is what B games are for. He can lead off every inning if he wants. Why did Guillen make this move.... If Eduardo Perez is not on the team and AJ and Hall are going to be in the line-up, the only place to get Hall AB's is at firstbase as he can not go in the game to catch if he is the DH. Therefore the platoon system against tough lefties is Hall and Konerko every game and either AJ or Thome sitting. He needs to knwo what he can and can't do on his own. Diving for a ball in a blow-in in the 9th inning to "try and make a web gem" doesn't show much common sense but I guess the effort was good.
  14. Let's rant for an early Sunday. So the Sun-Times can't rip the failure of Floyd as Garcia isn't anything at this time. Will they in true Sun-Times fashion admit that maybe Williams was right and compare the ST stats of McCarthy to Masset and Danks as being legit to evaluate the trade at this time. Probably not, they will run a story on how young pitchers are rushed. That's all I got to say about that. First off, I love that they are going ot use him to pitch every fifth day. THE FIFTH STARTER THING MEANS s*** HE IS AS LIKELY TO FACE A NUMBER 1 THAN A NUMBER 5 AS THE SEASON GOES ON!!!!!!!!!! God I hate the 5th starter term. I like every guy going every time that are due. I think in the grand scheme of things this helps all ofour pitchers. Second, I gotta say, he looked good, let's hope. Lefties in the Central have success and there are a ton of them. Finally, I think Pods starts the season on the DL and they blame the cold weather as both Perez and Anderson can make the team. I also think they may try and go with ten pitchers one being Haegar and see how it works...... Put a gun to my head, BA is going to AAA. Oh and I bought tickets for his first scheduled start. Santana will most likely no-hit the Sox so no beer shower that day.
  15. Ed Farmer is beside himself that this game is still being played. Is the field literally underwater? Are players floating away and being removed on stretchers as they hurt themself?
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) Who hit it, and were there any walks involved? The guy before Helton in the lineup and after the Japanese fellow...Holiday????? I think a couple of walks and a bunt hit. Gavin simply wet himself.
  17. Floyd isn't a foul weather pitcher that is for sure.
  18. Sox up 1-0 and nice aggressive base running gets the man to third. Rain is going to wash this out I think.
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) i was thinking the same thing Herasy!!!!!!!!!! Our manager will have none of it. Why not give Ozuna a shot against righties???? Maybe he can learn ot be something out there or play the infield a tad more often.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Comcast's gun doesn't seem to be working right now. The Colorado broadcast has Gavin sitting at about 93 MPH. Farmer noted that his fastball looks good. Also Pods had very few if any infield hits and grounded into a ton of DP's last year. He is not that fast he is/was a good base stealer. If he was that fast he could make up for being a pathetic fielder. Ozuna with a hit. T6 wow this game is moving right along. The cat for Colorado is 3-0 with a 3.xx ERA in the spring.
