  1. Imagine the OBP if he and Thome bat around one another. Lord that is a ton of walks. As for speed and defense IF he is somewhat healthy which I am not sure of, he is a better leftfielder than Pods. That is a huge if though. In general he does not appear to fit this team as it causes more issues. Now what if there was a market for Thome? What if Thome was injured in the second half and they feel this is the player he is and not the one we saw in the first half? If there is value in Thome why not explore Bonds to replace Thome? Not saying I would like it but Bonds pays for himself and is off the books the next year. In the current market, Thome's numbers = $12-15M and he can still play first base. Think the Astros could use a lefthanded bat for firstbase and starter........ Think Schmidt could replace Garcia? Sorry I am bored with the inactivity. Bonds and Sox keeps popping up, there has to be something there. Maybe AJ and he actually got along....
  2. Imagine what Cotts and Garcia could have gotten from Houston based on their needs.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) If this was to happen, it would equate to: Garcia, Gio, Haigwood for Thome, Madson/Floyd I would think KW could get more for Garcia. You're missing the $7M cash.
  4. An 18 game winner for a 4th outfielder is not a good deal. I am hoping this is where the talk starts with the Phils and ends with Rollins, Lieber, Floyd and Rowand for Garcia, Uribe and Aardesma.
  5. I am not so sure that Vernon Wells is not worth the Beltran money and the Sox will give it to him. I think this is a guy you spend big bucks on.
  6. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Last year Crawford vs. Cleveland: on base 11 times (no xbh) 3 stolen bases Podsednik vs. Cleveland: on base 19 times (no xbh) 9 stolen bases Based on the fact the Sox played Cleveland about 19 times and Tampa played them maybe 6 or 9, what is the point of this?
  7. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) There is no way in a trillion years that the Sox get Santana, Figgins and Shields for Crede and Garcia. But it would be nice.... It would be for Crede, Garcia and McCarthy it that scenario.
  8. Can't the Japanese club also reject the Mets/second highest bidder if the Red Sox don't ink the deal?
  9. The Tribune coverage of the cubs is back to being sickening. Actually all of the Chicago media coverage is. Soriano is a borderline great player. He is nowhere near worth $17M though. How he got a better contract than Beltran just goes to show how desperate the cubs are. My thinking though is they are trying to sex up the situation to sell the team. The new owner can then come in and blame these horrendous moves as to why they have to cut salary. I also though think the cubs are looking at how sad that 100 anniversary will be and pulling out all of the stops.
  10. If any trade is made with Texas, Young better be part of it. Garcia straight up Garland or vazquez should get another arm with young Maybe it is McDougal and a starter for the Japanese reliever and Young.
  11. Outside of facing us wasn't Santana a little down last year as oppossed to the previuos year? I could be wrong but I thought he tappered off, again not agaisnt us.
  12. The thing I like most is Guillen has one less lefty righty option. It is harder to hit a straight 96 MPH fastball then a hanging slider. When a reliever comes in and needs a strikeout because there are men on base he must have a good fastball. That is my thought. Neither of these guys is good at throwing strikes. Aardesma is a more stuff guy and in the scheme of our pen, I actully am starting to warm to this trade. As for Coop, here is the theory. Work fast and throw f***ing strikes. That's it. If this guy can do that, we are set in the pen. Also in the Trib, Reynoso and Logan are the lefties that will replace Cotts.
  13. Renewal rates blew my mind. A week after the seaon it was 95%. Also the increase in attendance from last year makes up for missing the playoffs. I think all the other stuff will keep us at right around $115M for the year. Liriano being out I think let's KW spend a little more this offseason as the post season chances have improved on this alone.
  14. These guys are right on the money. The kids do not know hte difference as long as you have the Thomas trains that they can relate to. The Thomas sets are much more cooler though.
  15. That is why I think you keep the rotation and put McCarthy at AAA to start and then move someone at the break if needed. This is by far the biggest news of the offseason. I do not care what else happens in the AL.
  16. Jared Weaver was the poster child for St. Louis fan gear. I wonder if the Anaheim fans are ticked.
  17. Watching the Tigers give games away as they have in this series makes me appreciate last year even more. If the Tigers do not come back and lose after I feel they should be in this I would be crushed.
  18. Wasn't there some pretty negative and nasty press associated with Razor Shines when he first came on board, 3 or 4 years ago. I know Backman got rave reviews while here but I thought for some reason that Razor Shines was trouble when he first started out even though he won a-lot. I could be wrong.
  19. Wasn't the Cards firstbase coach (Dave McKay?) the 83 team's bullpen catcher? I know Davey Nelson was the firstbase coach.
  20. I missed something what was Hurley's De Ja Vu? I really need to pay more attention I did remember who Boone was.
  21. The Mets have a better offense than the Tigers. Weaver has looked good as did Suppan. In that big park, you never know....as hot as the Tigers were if they cool off a bit it may be a decent series.
  22. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Got mine yesterday, I am a full-season holder Me too. My ticket rep also said renewals are around 95% so there won't be much movement.
  23. Throwing them out there for s***s and giggles. Carlton Fisk, Jeff Torborg, Jack McKeon, Joe Nossek, Buck Showalter, or my favorites Cookie Rojas or Don Zimmer.
  24. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) QFT. Lol. What about the gross $4.5M in additional ticket revenue generated by this?
  25. This whole argument is stupid in the fact that Thomas was hurt until around the All-Star break and was a huge gamble. Anyone that thought last offseason that Thomas was going to be back healthy is lying. The A's could afford to gamble on this and it worked out great for them. The White Sox took a less risky gamble on Dye two years ago and look how that panned out. Thome is also 3 years younger than Thomas so he can produce for a few more years. This argument will be proven when teams come knocking to sign Thomas in the off season. My bet...he is back in the AL Central. Unless Oakland has a cheap option on him. On any given day there is a better than average chance he will get hurt.
