  1. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Atlanta beat the Cub in getting Renteria from the Bo Sox. Now the Cub will compete with the BoSox in trying to land Tejada. If he trully wants out of Balt. It's starting to look like the Cub middle IF will be pretty weak next year. Prior or Zambrano need to go in order to Tejada. If they hadn't gotten Pierre, the three pitchers plus Hill may have gotten him. Imagine if they could have gotten Tejada for this and then signed Damon.
  2. Due to innings logged last season I think they will be going with six starters and six releivers for the first month or two. Take into account the WBC as well. 12 pitchers (possibly 13) 13 position players starting 9 - Ozuna, Mack, and Widger. I think Borchard gets a shot as he can play all three outfield slots as good as any of the three starters as well as possibly DH. He is a switch hitter and I think they should give him a go.
  3. Do the Mests sign friggin everyone. Did you see the list of guys they did not offer arbitration to.
  4. Steve Phillips on ESPN News had the followig Dodgers give --- Lowe and Drew Boston gives Manny and Nixon Phils give Abreu Dodgers - Manny Phils - Lowe/Nixon Boston gets - Abreu/Drew I would like to think I am missing something but don't the Phillies get jobbed her? All money is about the same. Manny played for Grady Little as did Lowe..........
  5. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Will they compete for anything more than third place in the next decade? They just spent 100 million dollars on gambles. They traded for a first baseman... now have four guys that play 1st and 3rd. Only of only one of them can dh and none of them play the outfield. As i see it one of those guys will be wasted unless someone converts to the outfield really quick. I like overbay... i think he is overated and underated in some sense. But this move makes no sense unless they have another deal in following this one to move one of hinkse, koskie, hillenbrand. They don't have to worry. The mets and orioles are still ahead of them stupidity wise. Think about if you were int hat division. TB, Tor and Balt are not that bad but they throw this sub-par pitchers out there and Boston and New York murder them. They need to at least try and build a pitching staff to give themselves and chance. This si what Toronto is doing and they are takign risks and they are looking liek they will at least put up a fight. Baltimore on the other hand, I am not sure what they are up to. At least they are not laying down. Their rotation looks good and their defense is top of the line. The Mets.........well I don't know what to say.
  6. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) I can see them in 2-3 years being in the hunt for the playoffs, which is good to see in baseball, that the tides are changing. Now if only the Pirates would learn from their mistakes and not be the AAAA team of the Cubs! IMO they have the best young INF in the game with Weeks, Hardy, and Feilder, 3b well I guess they can work on that. They should try and aquire Marte from Atlanta, not like they are going to use him anytime soon. But I am sure ATL would ass rape them. Like the Brewers did to them last year for Kolb.
  7. Think St. Louis will go after him.
  8. Good for them he needs to to s*** or get off he pot. He got $16M and would get the same or more next year if they went to arbitration. I wished he came back as I would have liked to see him go for 350 wins. I may have seen his last live MLB appearance, cool.
  9. What have they got to give up? I am not sure Rich Hill is all that great. Boston I guess could use prospects to spin in other deals. You know a guy (and I 've seen it here before) that I would like the Sox to look at, Corey Patterson. At worst he can platoon and give a LH bat off the bench with speed. He could bat 9th. His upside makes it worth a risk but I do not think the cubs will move him. Now if they send him and Hill to Boston for Renteria, then the Sox could maybe get him for Marte and B prospect. Do I have the cub colored glasses on when thinking of Patterson??? He did beat us last year. Think of the fire he could have to f' the cubs in their hometown....
  10. You need to look at free agency and the long term impact of such a move. I have a headache and can not think of it. I will post if it comes to me.
  11. Did he play with Cooper at all?? He may be more than just a broadcaster if they have any type of relationship. These guys watch every game and if they could add a little something or see something because they are friendly with a coaching staff, this could be a bonus.
  12. Tommy John is a real solid pick-up. I thought he and Hawk would work well together.
  13. Let's hope for an MVP award and ice his way into the HOF. Oakland would become my second favorite team.
  14. It was good. Huge emphasis I thought on the cubs though. They covered the series more than any other (we went 3-3). They covered certain events more so than others as well. Dodgers series got some big coverage I thought the Oakland game (Crede/Dye SS) would have been a really nice fit for the theme. Cleveland run was coverd very well although August and September were just sort of passed over other than this. They had some guy from the Herald (Gregor?) do more commentating than I thought they should have. He has a face and voice for newsprint as well. The thing again that I did not like was there was not input from any hispanic players. I thought this was a bad move. No Garcia, Contrearas or Uribe. I kind of wonder if they refused to be covered or were not around for taping. Some mic stuff from the regular season was good Dye calling Crede and Rowand (I think it was them) Dumb and Dumber was neat. Overall both DVD's are about the same with a good about of dual coverage. I would like to see an indepth highlight reel more than anything right now.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) I don't even want to think about what the Marlins would want for Miguel Cabrera. McCarthy and the AA team for Willis and Cabrera. I am not joking
  16. If healthy, big if, but in the East you have to take major risks to compete, this is a great move. They have a nice rotation and the pen is stacking up. They should at least hamper the yanks and red sox march through the division with Halliday, Batista, Chacin (sp?) and Lilly (if he is still there).
  17. The main thing on this is the Garland situation. The Trib sounded like there are still negotiations. If he is locked up long term I could see McCarthy being moved. I would want more than Crawford though, that is for sure. If Garland is not going to sign long term I think he could be moved especially in a three way deal. Another issue is that it sounded like the Sox have thought of using a 6 man rotation due to the WBC.
  18. Seeing as the Sox have had the biggest moves thus far as well as being World Series champs they will touch on this then go to in depth coverage of Josh Beckett, Papelbon to closer and the state of the union in regard to Manny. Then jump to Yankee money issues and Johnny Damon. I feel a bad wrap coming to the cub for not getting Furcal but wetting themselves over the overpayment for their bullpen. The bonds coverage up the ass followed by the steroid siuation.
  19. With bells on. I'll get there early. I think they serve booze but I am not sure.
  20. sammy is the epitome of what is wrong in general with the media on a larger scale. I am reading a biography on Ted Williams, Jimmy Foox is next, and the media treatment of Williams seems to parallal that of Frank Thomas. Although Williams was much more vocal in his hatred for the media, the fact that the fans seemed to have a very different perspective of Williams than the media mirrors that of Thoams. Then you have sammy sosa. The coverage of this guy was sickening the negative press was ignored while everything that Thomas did was focused in a more negative light. Imagine if sosa lost the MVP to an admitted steroid user. The media would have run with this. Now that sosa is in that same grouping he finally gets ignored.
  21. When do the cubs get called out for the park and dusty baylor not getting the players they want as has been sold.
  22. QUOTE(timotime @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) i feel ya. i also take great pleasure in the suffering of cubs fans. hendry really f***ed it up this offseason by making no moves that are worth a damn. i am looking forward to another sox world series championship paired with a total self-destruction effort by the cubs. It is December. The offseson is not even half over.
  23. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I agree that their focus should be on bigger ticket packages, but to me it just looks bad to advertise the Ozzie Plan, then push the on-sale date back, then take the ticket reps off the Ozzie sales. It's like "you Ozzie Plan people were good enough when no one cared, but now that REAL season ticket holders have popped up, go play with your computer". I understand 100% that it's business, and good business at that, but it still seems like a slap at Ozzie plan people. I saw an estimate somewhere of between 18 and 20K season tickets sold. Not sure if it's accurate, but that's what I saw. They are a tad over 17K of full plans. I am trying to get this on top of a full season plan. The Sox are trying to automate things more through Ticketmaster and this is one step. The thing I have with this is you get hit hard with service charges ($3/ticket) if it goes through Ticketmaster. "They are working on this." I think they just want people to get this and then not have to service it at all.
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) I'm more interested where Morris goes. Last year he seemed to be a shell of himself more of a junkball guy.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) I'm beginning to hate the Cardinals as much as I hate the Yankees, Cubs, Giants, and Red Sox. I don't they torment the cub fans, that's good enough for me.
