QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) Well Liriano is hurt again, so we could win 2 of 3 up there now. Still think it's Tigers or bust though. We'll sweep Minny in the final weekend.
-
I'm 99% certain, it's going to mean alot.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) the last Tigers series was also the last time we put together a 3 game winning streak FWIW. It was a 5 game win streak, the 3 detroit wins were sandwiched between wins on both sides.
-
If the twinks don't fissle with the rotation, we're due to see Liriano, Bonser and Santana on the final weekend. fiddle! Not fissle.
-
So they need to go 13-6 over the next 19 to get into the post-season? I don't think they will, but I don't think they really need to either. I'd be happy with 11-8, and it might be enough. They really need to sweep Detroit though.

Results so far... TB: 2-1 KC: 1-2 BOS: 1-2 CLE: 2-2 So, 13 games into the final 32 game stretch, we're 6-7. Typical, since we're below .500 since the All-Star break in July. Only 6 teams and 19 games left to play, can the Sox edge out the Twins or the Tigers? Remaining... LAA (3 Away) OAK (3 Away) DET (3 Home) SEA (4 Home) CLE (3 Away) MIN (3 Away)

QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) After last night's game, I have more faith in these rankings. Only allowing 5 runs in 3 games to the Red Sox was impressive. Allowing 9 runs in one game to the Indians was less so.

White Sox @ Fenway vs Boston Sept 6th 2006 game thread

Today's a must win game. -
19-13, so we'll have 95 wins this year.

Every game counts now, we're basically playing a 32 game season from now until October 1st, and we're starting out in 3rd place. Predictions on the Sox record, over these 32 games?
-
QUOTE(Al Lopez @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) One of BP's main comments about the Sox last year was that Cotts and Politte pitched far better than their true performance levels - that they were lucky. Say what you want, but at this point, that conclusion doesn't seem wrong to me. "True performance levels?" Is it mandatory that every player have the same statistical year, every year? Are better statistical years always due to good luck, and worse statistical years always bad luck, and median statistical years, no luck was involved? It's really just semantics, and means nothing, there is no such thing as luck.

From here on out, it's a 32 game season. Every one of these remaining 32 games is going to be big.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) IIRC, it's been a long time since a team with 94 wins didn't get into the playoffs. That doesn't mean a thing if we don't finish ahead of Minnesota. If the Twins win 96 games, and we win 95, we're out.

Here's the results our 24 games in 24 days. TOR W 6-4 TOR W 7-1 TOR L 3-7 LAA L 3-6 NYY W 6-5 NYY L 7-6 NYY W 5-4 DET W 5-0 DET W 4-3 DET W 7-3 KC W 12-2 KC L 2-4 KC L 4-10 KC W 5-4 MIN L 3-7 MIN W 4-1 MIN L 3-7 DET L 1-7 DET L 0-4 DET W 7-5 DET W 10-0 MIN L 4-5 MIN L 7-8 MIN W 6-1 _________ Overall, the Sox went 13-11. Since the 24 game stretch began, on August 4, we went from being 1/2 game behind in the WC (to Boston), to being 1/2 game behind (to Minnesota). Minnesota has gone 14-8 over the stretch. We started 1.5 games ahead of them. Also, we went from being 8 games behind Detroit, to 5.5 games back. Detroit went 10-13 over the same period.

Why does a game in Minnesota have an 11:10 start?
-
For the record, I'm predicting a White Sox sweep.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) I think it's pretty obvious. It's not obvious to those of us at work and not watching the game. Usually when a player starts a game, he doesn't get pulled out.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) Did JD get hurt? I'd like to know, too, why'd they pull him out?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) 4.04 - $9,500,000 4.73 - $7,000,000 4.80 - $8,000,000 4.87 - $9,000,000 5.13 - $12,000,000 (ugh) And I'm pretty sure all of them are making more money next year. Oh sure, it *looks* like alo of money, but, that kind of dough puts them in a really, really high tax bracket. Heck, they probably only walk away with 4-6 mil in clean, cold cash. Tom Cruise gets paid more to appear on Oprah for 30 minutes.

Well, 19 games into this 24 game stretch, and we're 10-9. 5 more to go.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) Why can't everyone just enjoy baseball for what it is? A GAME! A long season! Now sure, everyone has their "rights" to complain and vent, etc. It's guys out there ENTERTAINING YOU. Abosultely NOTHING more. This is a child's game that grown men play. Well, sure, you're right. But, some people have wrapped their very identity around the team. They wear their team logo constantly, on shirts, hats, etc., and they fly the team flag proudly in front of the house. They are known as the biggest team supporter on the block, maybe in the city. So, when the team wins, they win, too, but when the team sucks, they take it very personally.

I wouldn't consider myself a fair weather fan, since I'll go to games and keep tabs on the team even when they're not playoff contenders. On the other hand, when we do have a playoff caliber team, I'm following the day to day action ALOT closer than I would otherwise, so maybe someone else might consider that fair weather. And naming the starting line up of any year, outside of 05 or 06, is probably not gonna happen. I'm lucky if I remember what I had for lunch yesterday.
