  1. Singleton has said, more than once, that if he can't get seats for his wife and kids that are covered, by the nets or fences behind the plate, that he won't let them go to a game. The dangers of being injured by a foul ball are too high. And then I think of all the games I've gone to, and how few balls have even come near me, and I think he's nuts.
  2. I've only had one near miss in my lifetime. I was in the first row of that middle section (what's it called?), below upper deck, but above lower deck. Third base side. The ball comes off the bat and it's coming almost right at me, a bit to my right (noone was sitting there). I stand up and cup my hands, the balls dropping a bit, looks like it's coming in to me at about waist level. Just at the moment I'm anticipating impact, the ball hits the metal railing, sails over my head, and lands 2 or 3 rows behind me in some guys lap.
  3. On the radio, Farmer said alot of the applause was for Johnson.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) the best thing about JD is the fact that he is humble, and he is a good guy. Yeah, I'd say sign him long term, the guy's worth it. And, regarding being humble, yea, and that's why I like Thome as well, Thome has no chip on his shoulder, seems like he'd be a great guy to have a few beers with.
  5. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) I caught your humor. I think what he was trying to say was that no no no you're not even close... this is ACTUALLY what the Sox will do. But of course he doesn't give a prediction because he's just making ajoke about how pointless it is to try and predict game for game. YOu've gotta have the right sense of humor to get it. Yes, yes, and yes. If you could predict EVERY game, I'd say move to Vegas, and enjoy the good life, sitting in the sports lounges every night, watching the ca$h roll in.
  6. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) IMO we've got a window of a couple of weeks to finally start firing on all cylinders; any later than that is too little, too late. Ideally, that would occur as Detroit FINALLY hits some sort of a slump. Detroit may not hit a slump at all. If they finish out the season at their current win percentage, they will have 110 wins during the regular season. That's high, but not unreasonably high. Seattle had 116 wins in 01, and the Yankees had 114 wins in 98. On the other end, the Giants led the MLB in wins, with only 97, in 00.
  7. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) We've already been through the "toughest stretch of the season" -- it was the 15 games against Boston, NYY, Det, Tex, Minny that straddled the ASG. During that stretch we went 3-12. Damn! We suck!
  8. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Nice try, but I ain't buying what you're selling. So it's not a futile effort to predict the next 21 games? If you can get over 75%, which in school is only a C grade, I'll take you to a game and buy all your beer and food. If you get below 75%, you do the same for me. OK?
  9. I say you're not even close, but only because trying to predict a win-loss on every game, over the next 21 games, is a futile effort. Nobody would be close.
  10. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) My best guess: LAA-W NYY-L NYY-W NYY-W DET-W DET-L DET-W KC-L KC-W KC-W KC-W MIN-W MIN-L MIN-L DET-W DET-L DET-L DET-W MIN-W MIN-W MIN-W No, no, no, you're not even close.

  12. "While the Sox might still be everyone's World Series favorite, there's some cause for alarm. They're 6-9 in July with a minus-10 run differential. That's worse than the Cubs, Pirates, Nationals and Royals, four of our bottom-five teams." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/powerranking
  13. What happened to the Soxtalk podcast? The last one I have is 3 weeks old, it's Soxtalk_show number 18. Has there been a show 19 yet? Heads?
  14. Another positive not mentioned yet, Ozuna off the bench, A++!

    Grand Slams

You can count on Crede adding another slam on Saturday, because I'll be at the game, and every other game I've gone to this year Crede has a slam, so I'm expecting it, for sure.

    Two Questions

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) 1. Yes, at the Gift shop behind home plate Thanks for the info! QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) 2. Sounds like your IP address has a bad reputation What does that mean? My IP Address has never visited this server until last weekend, when I discovered I can't read the forum. Is there an admin person I can e-mail?
  17. 1) Is the World Series Trophy on display at the cell? I'm going to the game tomorrow and would like to see it, if it's on diplay. 2) Does anyone know why I can't read the forum from my home computer? I get an error saying I am restricted from viewing the page. I can't even log in from home, same error, regarding restricted access. Whats up? Thanks!
  18. It's hard to estimate the line, I'll take a guess and say approximately 400-600 people long (??) This was right about 12 noon. I didn't see any news cameras, but I only hung around for about 5 minutes and watched AJ and JC sign stuff on a platform from about 30 feet away, behinf a barrier with Chicago's finest standing guard.
  19. Did anyone meet Crede and AJ? I went to the Taste for lunch, but didn't have enough free time to try and meet them. The line was extremely long. I did want to tell Crede my little story though. I've gone to 2 games this year (Seattle and Houston) and Crede has hit grand slams in both games. I have tickets to this Saturdays game against Boston, so, I'm expecting a slam from Crede. I would've loved to tell him that.
  20. It looks more like a programming glitch, given the () after the word 'out.' Are you sure this has any meaning whatsoever?
  21. I thought this line in the article was interesting... "you're starting to see a non-baseball fan element coming in." I was at the Houston game (#2) and noticed four 20 something girls together at the park sitting about 3 seats to me left. They started out having fun, but by the fifth inning looked bored to tears. By the time Crede hit the grand slam they were long gone from their seats (which were excellent seats) and I imagine halfway home already. I'd also like to say that I love meeting Cubs fans that have switvhed allegiances - I think it's great. After all the south suburban Cubs fans I've known (and their have been tons), I get a kick out of meeting people who have been life long North siders, and Cubs fans, who finally got turned off the Cubs and became Sox fans. I live on the north side, and I go out to a bar to watch Sox games up here, and the place erupts when Thome hits a homer. There are more and more north side Sox fans all the time.

  23. QUOTE(Spiegle @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) man, we have one hell of a bullpen on our side. The bullpen is showing some very positive signs. In the last 6 games, 20.2 innings of work, the pen has allowed only 1 run.
