  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) The White Sox are shooting for another World Series title so I very much doubt they'd part with someone on their 25 man roster. They are trying to add a piece or two, using prospects. Look for them (the Sox) to part with at least one of their young starting prospects, along with a position player prospect. It really depends if Melvin and his staff think the Brewers can contend. They're a bit out of first and behind several teams. But I suspect they'll wait another month before deciding to part with a guy like Clark, if at all. Clark is signed for 2007 at a fairly reasonable price. I think Clark is gone regardless of the Brewers standing. The fact is that we have a lot of OF's, and he is the perfect blend of "expendable for us" and "desirable to somebody else". (unlike Carlos Lee or Jenks, who is certainly desirable to others, but not very expendable for us) Clark is cheap, but for once (HOORAY!!), financial conerns are not pushing the Brewers to make this deal. Salary doesn't matter here, the Crew could be a better team by trading him.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) Brandon McCarthy is one of the 5-10 best young starters in all of baseball. I realize he's stuck in our pen, but he'd be a starter on almost every team in the majors (today). So unless we are getting a Brad Lidge type player, there is zero chance the Sox give up McCarthy for Clark. Brad Lidge 2006? Or Brad Lidge 2005? Thanks, that's what I had thought too when I heard others propose McCarthy.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Haha, so Brewer fans are still pissed about Jared Fernandez s***ting his pants early in the year huh? I gotta say it was pretty funny watching him come out of the pen with the knuckler and get rocked. Though I do like the Brewers, I love comedy even more. Hey now Kalapse, no need to swear... oops. Sorry. I forgot that Jared Fernandez is considered a 4-letter-word only on Brewer sites. Question back to you Sox fans... How about Brandon McCarthy for Brady Clark? I've heard Brandon McCarthy proposed by some Brewer fans. What do you southsiders think of that? Could he be had for Brady Clark alone, with additional players, or not at all?
  4. There was talk about this guy already over on a Brewer site. While his ERA is good, he gives up too many BB/IP for my tastes. (We also got really burned by another knuckler earlier this year, but I'm trying not to let that taint my opinion.) So straight-up? No.
  5. Thanks greasy, nice to be here. A few friends of mine and I all have 10-game packages to the Brewers, and one of those friends is a big ChiSox fan (who was moved to Madison, WI). We quickly bonded over a shared hatred of the Cubs. And with 2 of our 10 games being interleague against the Tribe and Tigers, he's bound to be one of the most vocal "Brewer"-supports around in the upcoming weeks.
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) In your opinion, would Clark be available? And what would the Brewers be looking at in return? I listed this in another thread, but I'll repeat here. In my opinion, I think Brady not only would be available, but should be dealt once JJ Hardy is off the DL. Then we move Bill Hall to CF when we face righties. When we take on lefties, Hall moves to 3B (Koskie can't hit southpaws) and Cory Hart moves to CF. Gabe Gross could also platoon in center against righties if Hall needs a day off or gets put in some other IF position. Other teams I've heard rumored are the Yanks and Angels. But a trade to the ChiSox seems to be the one that most Brewer fans thinks makes sense. The Brewers would, without a doubt, be looking for pitching. With Sheets and Ohka on the DL, are starting rotation is thin. Our bullpen is also a wreck (partially due to a lack of starting, which has strained the pen arms). Starters or relievers, the Crew will be asking for arms.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) Yeah Church was only hitting .210, but he still put up an OPS over .800 with that BA. And last season he had splits of .287/.353/.466. Would be perfect in CF at the moment if he could re-produce that. Milwaukee's in an interesting situation at the moment. Carlos Lee could either be re-signed or traded. Brady Clark could be let go like you've said. And I think this is Geoff Jenkins's last year on his contract (or he may have 1 left I can't remember exactly). They've got a lot of guys like Hart, Gabe Gross and Nelson Cruz who are too good for AAA but not in the Brewers everyday lineup. You could probably get an OF from them for the right offer which would be some sort of pitching. Clark, Hart or Church would work for me. View from a Brewer fan... I will go so far as to say that Brady Clark is not a "could" but a "will" go. Once JJ Hardy is back off the DL, there is a strong chance that Bill Hall could be moved to CF in order to keep him in the line-up every day. On days when Hall needs a day off or moves to 3B to replace lefty Cory Koskie, the Brewers will likely play a Hart/Gross platoon in center. Cory Hart and Gabe Gross will not be easily had. In addition to the reserve platoon they are likely to play in CF, Gross is our #1 left-handed pinch hitter. Hart appears to be moving into that role as the righty. Hart is also our fastest bench player, and Yost's #1 pinch runner. Manager Ned Yost has made many comments this year as to how much he likes the flexibility of his bench. Giving Yost that improved bench was GM Doug Melvin's #1 job this past off-season, so I don't see him trading it away now. I think Nelson Cruz could be had, but would you really want to trade for a prospect with virtually no big league expereince? And you are all right, the price for either Clark or Cruz would be pitching. (We REALLY need it with Sheets on the DL)
  8. I heard rumblings of a Clark-to-ChiSox deal on a Brewer site, so I came here to see what you guys think. Glad to hear that your fans of Brady. Most of your impressions of him are right on... He's a hard worker and plays the game with everything he's got He is a solid defender He gets on base at a good rate, even when his bat fails him. (he's a pull hitter. When he kept trying to use the entire field earlier this year his BA really suffered, but at least kept drawing walks) A couple of misconceptions I've seen While he is a decent baserunner on balls in play, he is a HORRIBLE base stealer. (Note: Prince Fielder and Carlos Lee each have more than double his steals, and neither has been caught as much either) His OF arm is decent, but nothing to rave about. And finally as to including Matt Wise in the deal... I would really doubt it. The Brewer bullpen is in complete shambles right now. I can not see any circumstances in which the Crew would trade a bullpen guy without getting an better guy in return. Thanks for Carlos Lee. Keep enjoying SPod (I miss him). Hope to see your in the World Series soon.
