He wasn't just a legal adviser but also a Clinton conspiracy nut. He pushed Ken Starr to open a huge investigation into Vince Foster. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/opinion/why-was-kavanaugh-obsessed-with-vince-foster.html He's going to be a worse partisan hack than even Alito.
-
His avoidance of Harris's direct question on whether he discussed Mueller's investigation with Trump's personal lawyer/lawfirm was pathetic.

Booker lead the charge, but multiple dems are now saying they will release "committee confidential" emails and documents. Technically, they can be expelled from the Senate for this. This is a big, big stand they are taking to expose Kavanaugh's real views and his many lies to the Senate.
-
why were any of these marked "confidential" in the first place? solely to protect Kavanaugh.
-
welp someone leaked those "committee confidential" emails and, surprise, Kavanaugh is lying through his teeth during this hearing and his previous ones. Keeping him off the SC isn't enough. He should be impeached and removed from the judiciary all together. and Kavanaugh himself laid out why the whole "settled law" dodge is irrelevant when it comes to SC justices
-
This is what those brave Patriots subverting Trump are fighting for, such courage!
-
Leahy is also hinting that they have proof that kavanaugh lied in his 2004 and 2006 hearings over his involvement with other Bush staffers who hacked Democrats' emails and passed them around to strategize on judicial nominees. Booker and others also brought up some emails related to "race profiling" but Grassley has marked all of this stuff Committee Confidential so they can't ask Kavanaugh about it All extremely normal governance, love my democracy.
-
Something to consider As for it possibly being Pence, there were stories over the past year that in this extremely back stabbing admin, leakers will ape the linguistic style of others to throw them under the bus and draw attention away from themselves.

The President of the United States is accusing one of his senior advisors of Treason, a capital crime, and demanding that that person be turned over to him. If the allegations in the editorial and Woodward's book are true, we're deep into a constitutional crisis with a bloodless coup

Fire & Fury was 100% real, lol at anyone who ever doubted it

Note that the "private care" model would essentially be Medicare 4 Vets, where the government funds health care costs but the care is administered by private doctors and practices! I'm glad you embrace an expansion of Medicare! Aren't most vets' groups against this sort of privatization of the VA though?
-
It is funded by the government but hospitals are not run by the French government and doctors aren't government employees like they are with the VA or the NHS. There are probably some public clinics but that's true here, too. There's a major difference between what the NHS/VA does and what a government-funded healthcare system looks like. We would still have private doctors, hospitals, clinics, etc. under a universal healthcare system. I'd still go see my same primary care physician and still go to the same nearby hospital, and neither would be directly owned and operated by the government.
-
I actually do know a decent number but the plural of anecdote isn't "data." There's also nothing at all that prevents veterans from not using the VA. They are always free to use the same private health insurance system as the rest of us. If you want a government program to compare the proposed M4A to, compare it to...Medicare. Don't compare it to a dissimilar fully nationalized system where hospitals are run by the VA and doctors are direct government employees who treat a population with very unique medical needs. edit: England's NHS is more akin to the VA system than what a M4A system would be. If you want to look for cross-country comparisons, you need to look at countries that have universal healthcare access programs, not countries that have fully nationalized healthcare systems (are there any besides UK these days?)
-
The VA is pretty popular and the recent privatization attempts have all sputtered out. Also, the structure of the VA and the unique needs of the population it serves are not really directly comparable to a single-payer health insurance system. There aren't many people clamoring for an NHS-style fully nationalized healthcare system in the US. If you keep comparing something like Medicare4All to the VA, you keep showing that you don't even understanding what M4A is.

That's about the extent of my knowledge of the first Daley admin, just a vague idea that general consensus was he was "okay" but not really based on anything. Growing up with Daley the younger, I remember a lot more of his problems and failings.
-
There are two constitutional remedies! Instead the GOP is busy obstructing any sort of real investigation or check at every turn while the President is explicitly calling for politically motivated prosecutorial decisions. They get their tax cuts, and they get their generation of a stacked court. They're fine with it. Kelly gets his attacks on immigrants and his curtailing of nearly all refugees. Sessions gets to toss a whole lot of minorities in jail. DeVos gets to defund public education in her long-running goal of privatized christian education. Mattis gets to push for the wars he wants the way he wants them. These are by and large all people in it for their own reasons. I'm talking about the political appointee level here, and not the career civil servants.
-
hmmm or maybe the entire GOP could stop protecting him and just go ahead and impeach a man who is clearly unfit for office and incapable of doing the job? they're only stopping him from doing the more egregiously dumb things so he'll keep doing the egregiously bad things they like, like tax cuts for billionaires and child concentration camps and appointing judges to overturn Roe.
-
I thought the first Daley did okay?
-
Nah, they're helping to perpetuate this dumpster fire e:

lmao

Some initial reporting on the book from WaPo and yet the entire GOP continues to back this man and are right now working to rush through his latest SC nominee with little or no actual review. e: also, this criticism:
