  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 1, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) He and the other 49 who unanimously voted it in? Yes. Its basic economics.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 1, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Why isnt Obama in favor of a gas tax holiday when he supported it in 2000? Simple, the facts are it doesnt work! http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/ar...iday-gas-taxes/ Right, but he should have known that (or talked with an economic adviser) before supporting it in the first place.
  3. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) Their uniforms, identical to the ones worn last year, say hi. Let's see, you can't blame, Dye or AJ or Crede this year, they're all hitting well. You can't blame Swisher, Cabrera, or Quentin for having anything to do with the same old Sox hitting problem from last year since they weren't here. And Thome had an excellent season last year....that's 7 starters that completely fly in the face of the "These Sox would couldn't hit last year still can't hit this year" 'theory.' That theory having been disproven, I will use every muscle in my body to willfully ignore the fact that the Sox offense is 2nd in the AL in runs per game and blame the low team batting average through 26 games on their uniforms. You're still missing the point. I'm not saying "The 2007 White Sox couldn't hit, so the 2008 can't either because they are identical teams." You're making that straw man up on your own. All I was saying is that you can say "they'll start hitting better" all you want, but there's no guarantee. AJ, Thome (he was right at his career avg for OBP, SLG, and OPS though), Konerko, and Dye all hit below their career averages last year, and they're on the wrong side of their prime years. Yes, this is a much better team than last year's simply because there won't be guys like Andy Gonzalez and Terrero getting regular AB's. But we still have a bunch of aging sluggers who may or may not hitter better as the year goes on. I'm just sick of hearing excuses about the weather (games like Monday are a different factor). The games that they can't seem to hit in in April count just as much as the ones in July. Losing these games early because you strand 10+ runners and lose by a run or two may kill you coming down the stretch in September.
  4. FWIW, Obama supported a gas tax holiday bill in Illinois a few years ago.
  5. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) All is I'm saying is the last two losses fall squarely on JD's shoulders. If he's not 100%, he shouldn't be playing. And yes, he is awful. Ok, sure. I don't recall any defensive errors on his part, and I recall plenty of other players blowing it with RISP.
  6. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) It's not only his bat that bothers me, it's also his pitiful speed in the outfield. He has to dive for plays that anyone else makes sprinting. Gomez was 3-4 2R, 1RBI and 1K today. JD 0-4 2K's (again). How many times can this guy go 0-4 with 2K's before Ozzie takes him out? He's killing the team. He's been bad for a couple of days since coming back from an injury. He was hitting over .300 before that. Calm down, JD is not killing the team.
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Not certain where this thought goes, but did anyone honestly think the team would not have a three game losing streak? There will be a few more, and probably a few longer ones. It's not that they lost 3, its the way that they've looked losing three.
  8. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) So you want a guy who can't hit or run hitting 5th everyday? I don't. Bottom line, JD needs to go. JD was off to a great start before he was injured. Lets see if he can come back from it before shipping him off to plug in a crappy hitter who can run really fast.
  9. QUOTE (frankie5angels @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) They just had Monday and last Friday off. Why do people think an off day is gonna cure all that is wrong with this offense. Monday they played for 6 hours in an extra-innings, rainy, 40* game. Friday was rained out and played on Saturday. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Once again false, they are tops in the MLB in batting avg with RISP. They're 5th in the AL and falling fast. A lot of their clutch-ness came early on. The last few days have been pathetic.
  11. Sox team ERA was 2nd in the AL coming into today.
  12. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Why do you think we've had so many players left on base? I'll tell you. Nobody can run. Station-station base running loses games like todays, yesterdays and Monday's. No, its because once they get a walk and a hit, they GIDP or pop up weakly in the infield. Having one fast guy at the top of the lineup wouldn't make a bit of difference.
  13. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Nice. Absolutely no guarantee. There is also no guarantee that if our entire team hits .220 for the rest of the year, all of the other teams in the AL will hit .145. Therefore, I have just proven that our offense is in good shape. A random, absurd statement doesn't really make your point at all. This team looks pretty bad right now offensively. A lot of the players who are slumping right now are also past their prime. For them to hit their career average for the year means they're really going to have to start hitting the ball soon.
  14. Does any site keep track of how many first-pitch outs a team makes?
  15. Twins version of SoxTalk gamethread: "OMG THE SEASON IS OVER URIBE JUST SCORED ON US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) I have had enough of Brian Anderson bring up Owens good riddance BA! He already has a hit this game?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Over our last 10 games, I would love for someone to look up how many games our starting 2nd baseman got a hit in that game. I don't think it's more than 3 or 4 3 times. Once for Ramirez, once for Ozuna, and once for Uribe (2 hits in that game). Uribe also has one hit subbing for Ramirez. So, if I counted right, we have 5 hits from 2B in the last 10 games.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) You seriously think Thome, Konerko, Cabrera, and Swisher will all finish in the .220s? Or that there's a possibility of it? Or that Uribe's going to hit .160 all season? I don't care how bad people think they might be over the course of a season, they won't be this bad, and I'd bet my life savings. Even .240 I could see, but not a collective .220. No way. No, they won't hit that bad all season. I also think AJ and CQ will drop a little (under .300 for sure). Uribe may finish the season under .200. He is god awful at the plate. Just by the viture of not playing scrubs like Andy Gonzalez, this team will be better than 2007. But there is absolutely no guarantee that Thome, Konerko, Cabrera, and Swisher will suddenly turn it on and hit their career avg.'s for the rest of the year. I just got really, really sick of hearing that last year.
